DECEMBER 2012 THEME: LATTER RAINS

FROM THE PULPIT

“You Will Not Be Forsaken” - By Dr Yomi Sanusi

Text: Psalm 37: 25: I have been young and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.

consider it an honour and great privilege to be able to interact and speak to you. My confession to you is that although I am not an ordained or experienced and qualified minister, I speak to you as a saved and sanctified child of God. I pray that God will minister to your needs Himself through His Word, and that you will be blessed by some of the things we discuss here. This year so far, leading to this ‘Month of The Latter Rain’, although all that has happened may not have been entirely perfect, positive, good or excellent; and regardless of the elapsed time God still has a word for every difficulty, uncertainty or situation we may all be facing. The world is changing. Lots are happening. To explain the failures, inadequacies, insecurities or fears or our modern societies, people continue to cling onto various philosophies, explanations all outside of God. We, His children however, know we have a blessed and incorruptible inheritance which cannot fail. We believe that our lives and everything governing us is based on the unchanging word of God. Heaven and Earth may pass away, but not a single word of God shall pass without being fulfilled . I have come to remind you of the word of God which promises that........as gunmen kill the innocent needlessly, wars and rumours of wars abound, governments and political establishments manipulate the systems of this earth, strange things happen, and one generation gives way to another and time moves on.... the righteous or his descendants shall not be forsaken or left without provision’. The premise of my sermon is the following: (1) God is faithful. (2)The earth and the fullness thereof belong to Him (3) Although time may pass, and generations change He remains the same and His promises are secure. (4) His promises to the righteous, his descendants, his seed, his children and members of his household and those that belonging to or are identified with him remain secure as His promises. (5) More than satisfying physical hunger and the daily sustenance of our ephemeral existence, His promise of bread to the righteous symbolises the bread of life, a seal of belonging to Him and eternal life. Psalm 37 verse 25: I have been young and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. God’s faithfulness and power is timeless. His promise of protection for the seed of the righteous encompass not only against physical, but also against emotional and spiritual hunger. THE SYMBOLISM OF BREAD Bread is symbolised as The Solution to Hunger; Our Daily Bread (Matt 6. 5-11); Relationship and Deep Communion (John 6.26-36); Bread of Life (Eternal Life); Body of Christ (1Cor.11. 23-26); Security, Fraternity and Peace. The practical consequences of these symbolisms mean bread can be seen as a ‘Life giver, Sustainer, Satisfier and Reviver’, a ‘Measure of wealth, blessing or abundance’ as exemplified in the aphorism what you sow is what you reap, and the biblical Promised Land as a ‘land flowing with milk and honey’. Bread or food has also been used historically as a tool of war; and an inducement for gaining social company and attention . There is evidence that God takes bread very seriously. It is a good enough reason for disturbance by a neighbour in uncomfortable circumstances (Luke 11.5-8). On the day of recompense when the Son of man shall come in His glory, he will remind the faithful ‘I was hungry and you fed me’ (Matt.25.31-36). The eating of the holy and

N some parts of the world, rainy season is experienced twice a year. The first one is called early or former rains which are essentially to soften the field for cultivation and for germination of the seed planted; while the second is called the latter rains and is necessary for the production of fruits and leading to harvest. Both rains are very crucial to cropping, but the latter rains have a greater significance on the planting process as it shows that the farmer’s efforts throughout the year were never in vain. As Jesus was going back to heaven, He instructed the disciples not to go out preaching until they had received the power from the Holy Ghost (Luke 24:49). About 50 days after Jesus ascension, the gift of the Holy Ghost came upon 120 disciples which signify their ‘early rains’ (Acts 2:1-4). This power propelled them to do great miracles and grant them courage. However after the healing of the lame man at the Beautiful Gate by Peter and John, they were both arrested and tried by the Elders Council and the High Priest family. After been threatened and humiliated, it was necessary that God should re-charge them again, so they were sent a ‘latter rain’ (Acts 4:29-31). After this latter rain, they became unstoppable! In this Month of December, God is determined to send us ‘latter rains’ that will prepare us for our harvest season. He will cancel all threats of the enemies against us and eradicate all humiliations we are going through. He will also re-kindled our courage and endue us with renewed power and grace in Jesus name. THE RCCG (EVERLASTING FATHER’S ASSEMBLY) 2012 PROPHECY THEME: OUR YEAR OF ASTOUNDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS

A

STOUNDING is defined as bewildering or striking dumb with wonder; or so surprisingly impressive as to stun or overwhelm. While accomplishments could be defined as the act of carrying out or achieving; something achieved or successfully completed; gained skills or talent; attainment of social grace, style, and poise. After God ordered Elijah to anoint Elisha as his successor; Elisha left his lucrative mechanized farming and became a servant to Elijah. He would run errands for him and take care of his master. The time came when God was prepared to take Elijah away; Elisha’s contemporaries began to make mockery of him that he would soon be like them, but Elisha was determined not to remain as an ordinary son of a prophet; but as someone spectacular. So he demanded for the double portion of the anointing of God upon his master. The bible records that Elisha was able to fulfil the condition set by Elijah and so received the double portion of his master’s anointing! The sons of prophet that thought Elisha was already stranded at the other side of Jordan bowed before him and called him ‘Master’ after he parted the Jordan River and walked through it on dry ground! (2 Kings 2: 1-15). In the year 2012, the Spirit of God says He will make us to achieve feats that are astounding; gain talents and skills that are staggering; and enjoy attainments of social grace, style and poise that are startling! “You Will Not Be Forsaken” - By Dr Yomi Sanusi

Continued from Page 2 consecrated show-bread, separated and sacred, for the high priest and his sons only by David in an exceptional circumstance when his life was under the threat of destruction (1Sam 21.1-6) is another example. God’s promises include provision, security, peace; abundant life; spiritual blessing; unspeakable joy; overcoming. He promises never to leave or forsake you, or allow you and your household to suffer. But these benefits are not without preconditions. It is imperative that you must remain consecrated to Him. Revelation 19.9; Mat.22.2; Luke 14.15, Luke 22.16 God is faithful. He wants to ensure that for generations to come neither you nor my household will suffer physical, emotional or spiritual hunger. He is faithful enough to take care of you. He has to be satisfied that you and I pass as righteous in His uncompromisingly Holy eyes. (Acts 20.28, 1 Cor 6:20, Luke 4.4, John 6.32-35). Therefore follow after Him, be His sheep, and receive eternal life. (John 10). BLESSINGS AND PRAYERS Psalm 37.25 I have been young and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. May God sustain you to remain faithful to Him and remain righteous. May your descendants continue to serve Him in spirit and in truth. You will not wither away quietly without significance. God’s purpose for your life shall be accomplished. God’s favour on your life (and the life of your descendants) will not vanish. The presence of God shall be strong upon your life, career, education, situation, emotions, inner life, and prayer life. He will revive your soul. You will be alive to God’s Spirit. You shall have enough; more than enough; enough to become a blessing to others. God will take care of your future. You can approach the future with confidence. The word of God shall come-to-pass in your life. Excerpts of a sermon delivered by Dr. Yomi Sanusi at the RCCG Everlasting Father’s Arena, York on 16th December, 2012.
