Anaheim 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit Adoption Committee Newsletter June 2014 UPCOMING EVENTS Committee Meetings City Hall - 7th Floor 10:00am 2014

Several committee members were blessed with an opportunity to visit the new hospital at Camp Pendleton recently but they weren’t just there for a tour. They were there to make a delivery of donated “Play Packs” for the pediatric waiting room. A huge THANK YOU to The Palos Verdes Sunset Rotary Club who so graciously made a monetary donation to be used to purchase toys for the new hospital. With germs being such an issue, it was decided by the hospital staff that it would be better for us to find “one time use” items that the kids could take home with them. That would cut down on the constant sanitizing of any toys that would normally stay at the hospital. With that being said, we were on a mission to find the perfect item which would give the kids something to do while they were waiting to see the doctor and one that they could easily take with them. We found “Play Packs” and were able to commit to purchasing 200 of these items and donate them to the hospital on behalf of The Palos Verdes Sunset Rotary Club. For those who don’t know what a “Play Pack” is - it is an individually wrapped fun package that includes a mini-sized coloring book, four crayons and a sheet of stickers. The girls could choose from characters such as Hello Kitty, a few of the various Disney Princesses and Strawberry Shortcake while the boy’s choices included Ninja Turtles, Star Wars and various super heroes. The kids are really loving them! This is something that is so needed and so appreciated that we’d like to continue providing these gifts on a year-round basis. If you might be interested in donating to this project, please call 714-637-5575 to find out how you can help. If you would prefer to send a monetary donation, we’d be happy to go out and purchase these items on your behalf; all you have to do is write “Play Packs” on the memo line of your check and we’ll do the rest! The address you can mail your check to is shown below. Knowing you put a smile on the face of a sick child is so rewarding and such an amazing way to show your support!

There is still time for you to buy tickets for a chance to win! The quilt is sure to draw many compliments no matter where you display it in your home. The quilt will be on display in our booth at the 4th of July celebration and tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. If you won’t be at the Celebration but would like to get in on the raffle, please call 714-637-5575 for more information on how you can purchase your tickets. We invite you all to come by the booth to buy tickets or to just say “hello” on the 4th - it’s always a fun day and a great way to celebrate America’s birthday.

Providing a baby basket to all new parents is another way we support the families of the MEU. The baskets are filled with all the things new parents need when they bring their new baby home from the hospital. Many thanks to HEALING HEROES MINISTRIES and the SAN ANTONIO MOM’S CLUB for their continuing support of this project. Both groups have been generously donating baskets all along and each group donated several baskets last month. Thanks also to the KIWANIS CLUB OF GREATER ANAHEIM for their donations of the Baby 411 books that are included in each basket - these books are such a great resource for all new parents! Thank you also to HEALING HEROES MINISTRIES for their recent donation of Disneyland tickets. We are so blessed to be partnered with so many who are always willing to give their time and resources to help our families. God Bless you all!!!
