Civil Rights Game great american Ball park in cincinnati, ohio will be the host site for the third annual Major league Baseball Civil Rights Game, when the Cincinnati Reds play the White Sox on June 20, 2009. It marks the first time that the Major league Baseball civil rights game will be a regular-season game played at a major league ballpark. the civil rights game, held in Memphis the last two years, pays tribute to one of our country’s most significant eras of social change and honors Major League Baseball’s involvement in the historic struggle through which legendary african-american players broke barriers and made important contributions to american society. in last year’s contest, the white sox lost a 3-2 decision to the Mets. “Major League Baseball is committed to the significance and impact of this very important event,” said Baseball commissioner allan H. (Bud) selig. “now in its third year, Major league Baseball is excited to bring the civil rights game to its new regular-season host city of cincinnati. we hope that the community will embrace its importance and its message as we remember and honor the african-american pioneers of our game.” “it truly is an honor for the chicago white sox to once again participate in Major league Baseball’s civil Rights Game, this time as part of our regular-season schedule,” said Jerry Reinsdorf, White Sox chairman. “every member of our travel party, from Ken williams to ozzie guillen, our coaches, players, staff and families, was touched by last year’s experience in Memphis and our visit to the civil rights Museum. We all benefit from understanding the sacrifices made by Americans of all races as part of the Civil Rights movement in this country, a movement that continues in a variety of ways to this very day.”

Mi Casa Es Su Casa Due to the effects of Hurricane Ivan, U.S. Cellular Field became the site of the first two games of the Florida-Montreal series on September 13-14, 2004. The “host” Marlins won both games before crowds of 4,003 and 5,457. It marked the first time that a National League team hosted a regular-season game in an american league park since 1946 (Boston Braves at fenway park). all tickets were $15 general admission, with $5 of each ticket going toward the florida Hurricane relief fund.

Tough Luck Loser Mark Buehrle suffered a 2-0 loss on May 31, 2007 at toronto despite allowing just two hits. Buehrle gave up solo home runs to aaron Hill in the second inning and frank thomas in the eighth but otherwise retired every batter (24 of 26 total). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Blue Jays became the first team in major-league history to win a game without having a baserunner. Buehrle became the first major-league pitcher since arizona’s randy Johnson in 2004 to throw a no-hitter and complete game with two hits or less in the same season and first White Sox pitcher to accomplish the feat since Joel Horlen in 1967.
