Organising the Kitchen – The Heart of the Home Gets a Makeover Did you know that the kitchen is the busiest and most popular room in just about every house? Anytime there is a gathering of mates, they frequently wind up congregating in the kitchen. Whether it is the lighting, the food or the ambiance that draws them, many hosts and hostesses find their perfectly styled lounge abandoned by their houseguests in favour of the kitchen table. Conversely, with the exception of the bathroom, the kitchen also is very often among the smallest rooms in the house. This is one of the reasons that organising the kitchen is so very important. With the kitchen being the heart of the home, it is important that it be as functional and streamlined as possible. If your kitchen is often filled with people, then it is important that it not also filled with junk that you rarely use. There are many nifty appliances out there, that boast great talents at making this or that, but at the end of the day, if they are not being used on a daily basis, then they have no place cluttering up your kitchen counters. Determining what you actually use is a really important first step to organising your kitchen. Once you have removed the waffle irons, smoothie makers and cappuccino machines from your day to day life, the next important step in organising the kitchen is to think about the workflow in that room. Look at how the main features of the room are laid out. Where is the stove in relation to the sink? Is the refrigerator across the floor from the oven? Do you have a dishwasher? Putting things in cabinets that make sense can help make your kitchen easier to work in. Dishes should be close to the sink or dishwasher, to make putting them away a snap. Pots, pans and spices should be near to the stove. Although organising the kitchen may sound and seem a mundane task, the few moments that you spend doing it can ultimately save you hours in the long run. Having everything in arms reach can speed to the process of preparing meals, and get you out of the kitchen much more quickly. One main problem we all have with our kitchens is that our outdoor shoes usually left at the kitchen entrance end up cluttering the space. All you need to do to tackle the problem is to invest in a functional shoe storage product or a shoe rack that can take the beating they will no doubt be subjected to. Once installed in the right place, you will find that shoe clutter at your kitchen entrance will soon become a thing of the past.
