6 Things Couples Should Do Before Getting Pregnant

3

Go off the pill Stop your birth control a couple of months before you plan to

start trying, says Robert A. Greene, MD, co-author of Perfect Hormone Balance for Fertility. This gives you a bit of time to see what your natural menstrual cycle is like -- 27 days? 32? -- so you can figure out when you're ovulating, the time of the . .month when you're most fertile

Limit caffeine

If the Starbucks barista knows your order as soon as you step up the counter or you can't get through the workday without four cups of French roast, do yourself a favor and cut back your caffeine intake now, because studies show Deal with where that too much caffeine can you want to live Getting settled and feeling trigger miscarriage and because you want to avoid good about your home will help you feel more prepared withdrawal after you're pregnant." for pregnancy.

Cut back on partying Drinking and smoking

during pregnancy? We don't need to tell you they're major don'ts. If you indulge in either, start scaling back now,Excess alcohol intake has been shown to interfere with your fertility and can also lower sperm count in men. Smoking cigarettes, even socially, can affect your egg quality

Pop a prenatal

supplement Any woman thinking about getting pregnant should start taking a daily multivitamin. Getting enough of this B vitamin before and early on in pregnancy can reduce brain and spine birth defects by up to 70 percent. And the multivitamin itself is packed with other nutrients crucial for a healthy pregnancy

Pay your doc a visit

Many experts recommend booking a pre-pregnancy checkup at your ob-gyn at least three months before you plan to start trying, especially if you don't see the doctor regularly. You'll want to make sure you're up-to-date on vaccinations, checked for STDs, tested for heart-health issues like high blood pressure and cholesterol, and make sure that any chronic conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, or thyroid problems, are in check. (It's a good idea to send your husband to visit an internist too

Latex Balloons: Latex balloons are one of the worst things to choke on because they can conform to a child's throat and completely block breathing.

Bath and Baby Oils Some bath and baby oils contain liquid hydrocarbons, which can cause a serious pneumonia-like condition, irreversible lung damage, and even death if a child aspirates the substance into their lungs.

Kitchen Ranges An improperly installed range can fall forward if your child leans on the front of it or climbs on the oven door.

Soft Bedding Fluffy comforters and bumper pads may make a crib cozy, but soft bedding can mold around babies' faces and suffocate them.

Plan A Baby Shower

What do you want people to remember most about this baby shower? The baby shower games? The food? The decorations? Everything? With some creativity and a bit of planning, you will have everyone wishing that you had planned their baby shower! The women will be talking about how much fun it was for weeks. And you won't be stressed out! Because most of your planning and brainstorming has

The first step to planning and hosting a successful baby shower is to create a guest list. Creating the initial guest list will help you get an idea of how many people will be ultimately be invited to the baby shower, which is the biggest factor in what your shower budget will be. It's always a good idea to find out if mommy-to-be is going to have other baby showers hosted for her by another family member or friend. Talk to the mommy-to-be's family members about the other shower dates and invite list. Other than her family members, you do not need to invite people that are attending the mommy-to-be's other showers unless you want to .

You will want to host the baby shower on a Saturday or Sunday between four to eight weeks before the baby is due. With baby's due date in mind, decide on a few dates that you can host the baby shower. Contact important guests, especially out of town family, to make sure they are available on dates you have in mind. Remember that Friday night and Saturday baby shower parties are usually more expensive than Sundays if you are having it at a location other than a home. HUSH April 2012

THE ROMAN THEATRE

T

he restored RomanTheatre is the most obvious and northern side of a hil that Roman Philadelphia, and is the highlight of Amman for most foreign visitors. The theatre itself is cut into the northern side of a hil that once served as a necropolis and has a seating capacity of 6000. It was built on three tiers: the rulers, of course, sat closest to the action, the military had the middle section and the general public sat perched, squinting, way up the top. The theatre was probably built in the 2nd century AD during the reign of Antoninus Pius (AD 138–61). Theatres often had religious significance, and the small shrine above the top row of seats once housed a statue of the goddess Athena (now in the National Archaeological Museum), who was prominent in the religious life of the city. Full restoration of the theatre began in 1957. Theatres often had religious significance, and which means that the present reconstruction is partly inaccurate. However, the final product is certainly impressive, especial y considering that the theatre has again become a place of entertainment in recent years. Productions are sometimes put on here in July and August – check with the tourist office or ask at your hotel. The best time for photographs is the morning, when the light is soft – although the views from the top tiers just before sunset are also superb. During the night the theatre is floodlit, providing a spectacular backdrop to the modern downtown.
