ndrea Evans has been a valuable member of the Gila River Arena security team since the venue opened in 2003. She grew up in West Phoenix and went to Long Medical Institute where she studied sports medicine becoming a certified sports medic. In 2003 when Gila River Arena opened, Evans joined the staff as a member of the hourly event security team, working concerts, family shows and hockey games. Over the years, she continued to demonstrate outstanding leadership in addressing safety and security issues, which propelled her to her current role as head of security at Gila River Arena. Security enhancements Evans has been able to implement include: adding more than 201 security vantage points throughout the venue through the instillation of new cameras and installing new fencing around previously exposed areas; working tirelessly not only with the Arizona Coyotes organization but all businesses adjacent to the arena to provide clear and consistent security procedure and prohibited-items messaging to fans; and making it safer for law enforcement to attend events in civilian clothing. Specific to NHL game nights, Evans has overseen enforcing mandatory player and family screening upon entry to the building, manning all stairwells with security staff from the time the building opens, rescreening all guests who come back in from smoking patios, increasing security

others to follow.” The Professional of the Year Award that Evans received recognizes a member of management in the field that has, over the past year, demonstrated outstanding leadership in addressing safety/security issues. In addition to the enhanced safety and security of Gila River Arena, Evans’ contributions have set an example for others to follow. The award recipient is selected by the National Hockey League along with a league official at the National Sports Safety and Security Conference & Exhibition. Marciani noted that each league or organization selects the criteria and makes the determination as to which professional will be recognized.
