LEGAL – Health and Safety

This would affect my product in a negative way if I were to act in a bad way, messing around on the streets or being dangerous on the road, such as crossing while cars are going by with equipment. Risk assessment sheets were created for each of the locations that I had to visit and show what to look out for. Also if it rains and you have not planned your day, this would damage the equipment as it may get wet.

The affect this gave to my product was positive as I am sensible on the streets, crossing when cars are stopped in case if I drop any equipment while the cars are going past. Also if it starts to rain then it would be ideal to pack up the equipment and wait. Also, if you are going to plan a trip to go and film, it would be ideal to check the weather before you go.

LEGAL – Copyright

If I were to use someone else’s work on my product, this would put a very bad effect on my work and I could receive a bad grade if anything has been seen, such as, you could take someone’s work without asking for permission and if the examiner finds out that it is someone else’s then the marks would go down or you could be marked as 0.

Copyright is very important as you must be careful on who’s work you are going to take and what it is, the best way of taking some footage from someone else’s work would be asking them, while researching, if you find a piece of archive footage you would like, it would be good to contact them before you start filming so you know if you will be able to use it or not. This did not affect my work as I only needed to take archive footage from news reports and it is only small amount of work that I took.

LEGAL – Libel

This did not affect my work as I did not offend any of my interviewees, or talk about them in an offensive way. This could affect my product negatively if I did so, as the BBC would refuse to broadcast my documentary, or on the other hand the audience may not watch the documentary and therefore it will not make as much money.

This affected my work in a positive way as I knew what to say which would not offend any of the interviewees, so the contributors were happy with my finished documentary. It gave accurate information and did not give any information that would offend people or have a different opinion on any of the interviewees.

LEGAL – Data Protection

This affected my documentary in a negative way as the contact lists and emails were put up on the internet so this could be easily viewed by other people. The contact list, being the worst as there were many different contacts on it

This affected my documentary in a positive way as I asked people with their permission first to find out if they would not mind having an interview but then telling them that they would be filmed,

LEGAL AND ETHICAL – Race and This could affect my work if I Ethnicity were to say that it was all black people that were involved in the riots and no one else and not allowing certain ethnicities speak about it and stick to one. This would put a bad mark on my product.

This put a positive effect on my work as I planned to talk to many different ethnicities to find out their views and reactions to the riots. For example, while I filmed my interviews and vox pops, they were with a mixture of ethnicities and were happily to answer.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL – Privacy

This did not affect my documentary in any negative way, however, if this was to affect my documentary in a negative way because I could reveal someone's personal life. This can then be looked into and I can be sued.

I did not make film anything about anyone’s personal life and did not make it public to the audience. I only asked them basic questions and nothing about their personal life. The people that I included in my documentary were fully aware of the content and were happy to be part of it.

PROJECT SPECIFIC -Budget

This would affect my budget in a negative way because I could start spending unnecessary money, also if interviews cost and it has to be rescheduled, I would have to pay for missing it as people have taken time out to see me. Also if I am to re-film around London this will cost me extra for travel expenses.

This had a positive effect on my product as I did not have to pay for anything major. The budget was only used on travel expenses and food, as the equipment belongs to the school; we only have to book it out. Overall, it was a good budget as not much was spent.

PROJECT SPECIFIC - technology

If I had a higher budget, I would use a much better software as I feel that I did not really understand it throughout, even though I had made a solid finished product, I could have made it look even more

The camera I used was a HD camera, I was happy with it because it had a HD screen and was clear for the audience to be able to see. The sound on it was also clear as you could hear what the people were saying

effective then it looked. Also, I should have added more graphics to it as there was not a very good selection of what to use.

throughout the whole documentary. The editing software was also good to use as it had some good effects which would allow me to add to it and sharpen up any points.

TV INDUSTRY SPECIFIC – Regulatory and self-regulatory (OFCOM/ BBC)

I feel that there were a few regulations that has affected my work negatively, which was privacy, as I have the contact information on display on the people that I interviewed. Another one would be criminality, this could affect it as my documentary will be about the London riots, this will show a lot of criminal acts, however I must be careful with the content that I will included within the filming, this could be due to parental advisory, otherwise I may be sued by the consumers.

Under re-constructions, when filming dangerous scenes, such as crime scenes, I will have to make this viewable towards my audience, so therefore I may have to re-enact them. I showed one scene or showing some sort of re-enactment which worked very well.
