...your latest ‘doncaster most wanted’ as we start to pull ourselves away from the ice and snow and gently towards spring -hopefully! We have another jam packed issue with our usual fun and light-hearted snippets, lots of facts and of course some great competitions! Did you know we’ve actually given away well over £20 000 worth of prizes to date? Get involved... it could be you! Thank you to Mr Smith who sent a letter outlining his concern over our inaccurate facts! If any of you have missed this, it’s a recent addition to our competitions -we print the odd (one or two to make it easier) ‘fake facts’ and ask that you identify them to be entered into a draw to win a prize! –if, Mr Smith you had left your details, I could have entered you into the prize draw! It did however cause a giggle in the office. Did anyone hear us on Sine FM recently? We did a live session on the Business Show talking about the advertising trends for 2010 and I have to say one word, ‘nerve-wracking’ –well maybe that’s classed as two, but it was fun and they are very nice at the studio and really looked after us. Mansion House this month! We were invited by Success Doncaster to speak to some central government officials in a quest to secure further funding in the future for them to continue their excellent work in supporting Doncaster business. I was so inspired on the day, meeting some individuals who have started their business in spite of extreme adversity and I’ve written about one of them in March’s’ issue of Doncaster Business & Leisure (DB&L) magazine. DB&L is our new project launched in January. It’s an A4 glossy which goes out to over 10 000 businesses directly by Royal Mail and the feedback has gone beyond what we could have ever expected. So we’ve been working hard –as usual  of course we have found a little bit of time to have a bit of fun too! Amongst our social calendar was a visit for us all to support Castle Park once again but cheated this time, opting for an inside seat, what a great day out, and thanks to Nick J for looking after us! Until next time... ...Enjoy

It’s not just our children we need to worry about. Adults can fall victim too. Hands up who worries that their teenager might be at risk from potential child abusers when they go online. It’s a valid concern but did you know that we adults are also at risk from those same offenders? In the early days of the internet people, including potential offenders, believed the web offered complete anonymity. Those days are gone. High profile celebrity prosecutions have ensured that paedophiles now make every effort to conceal their identity. Activity on home internet accounts is easy to trace and no offender wants to lead the police straight to their front door so they develop ways to cover their tracks and one of the latest is ‘piggybacking’. This is the unauthorised use of another person’s wireless broadband connection. Piggybacking masks the identity of an offender. They can download or distribute offensive, illegal material via an unsecured Wi-Fi connection without having to register a service in their own name. Worryingly that unsecured Wi-Fi connection may be yours. A staggering one in six Wi-Fi connections in the UK is left unprotected and this opens the way for abuse to occur. The Washington Post recently reported such a case in the US. Police arrived with a warrant at an apartment block in Arlington County, Virginia. They were there to arrest a man suspected of distributing child pornography via his internet connection. However, the owner of the apartment in question turned out to be an elderly lady with an open Wi-Fi connection which covered ten storeys of her building. In this instance the police had to drop the investigation but it begs the question: what if she hadn’t been

an elderly lady but a single, middle-aged man? WiFi piggybacking raises the real prospect of someone being investigated or even convicted of a crime committed via their internet connection of which they are entirely innocent. Even if the police can separate the crime from the connection-owner the mere threat of police scrutiny can have devastating consequences: people have committed suicide while being investigated for such offences. Take a look at your Wi-Fi connection. Does it use WPA (wireless protected access) encryption or the older, hackable, WEP (wired equivalent privacy)? Is it password protected? Both the connection and the router should be protected and the passwords should be strong: a random series of letters and numbers is the most difficult type of password to hack. Hide the router’s SSID (service set identifier) to minimise the chance of it being compromised. Finally, if you suspect your connection has been violated, report it. By protecting ourselves we make it more difficult for those who want to harm our children which can only be a good thing.

Question: A man is riding a subway. He meets a one-armed man, who pulls out a gun and shoots him. kills a bum and sends the bum's arm to the others in a box to demonstrate that he fulfilled the bargain. Later, one of them sees him on the subway, holding onto the overhead rings with the arm he supposedly cut off, realizes he cheated, and kills him.

Lateral thinking Several men were shipwrecked together. They agreed to survive by eating each other a piece at a time. Each of them in turn gives up an arm, but before they get to the last one, they're rescued. They all demand that the last man live up to his end of the deal. Instead, he

No you’re not dreaming. This is a health article about chocolate...and chillies too actually but I couldn’t work them into the title! It is Valentine’s Day this month after all and they’re both healthy additions to your diet, in moderation! Before you cheer and rip open that box of Ferraro Rocher, a word of caution: it’s the cocoa that counts. Forget about white chocolate with its combination of butter and sugar or milk chocolate which can be as little as 10% cocoa. Instead cultivate a taste for the dark sort, with at least 70% cocoa solids. The Aztecs valued chocolate so much their taxation was levied in cocoa beans! The hot frothy drink they made was reserved for warriors, nobility and priests and was said to confer wisdom and vitality. Emperor Montezuma, not one for moderation, drank 50 goblets a day. More recently one of the world’s oldest centenarians, Jeanne Calment (1875-1997), ate 2lbs a week until her physician persuaded her to give it up at the age of 119, 3 years before her death. While Jeanne and Montezuma are extraordinary examples of the apparent health benefits of chocolate, recent trials have suggested that the antioxidants and flavanoids in cocoa improve verbal and visual memory, reaction times, balance certain hormones, help to relieve blood pressure and boost serotonin levels, our brain’s natural antidepressant. All good reasons to indulge a little, especially this month. Unfortunately chocolate can cause headaches in sensitive folk and over-indulgence, even in dark chocolate, increases our sugar intake, which is certainly not good for our health! But what could be nicer on a cold Valentine’s

Day than snuggling up with your loved one and a cup of hot chocolate? Buy cocoa powder, preferably organic and fair-trade, and make a hot drink, sweetened with honey. While you’re at it why not cook the object of your affections an authentic Mexican chilli dish by adding cocoa to the sauce? The nutrient capsaicin, found in chillies, is a powerful antioxidant and can help to prevent many conditions such as high cholesterol, heart and lung diseases and cataracts. It also stimulates blood circulation which boosts the immune system and it even relieves pain. Chocolate and chillies both encourage the secretion of endorphins: natural chemicals produced in every cell of the body. These chemicals relax muscle tissue, relieve pain, generate clearer thinking and act as mood enhancers. To maintain good health we must produce more endorphins, our ‘happy hormones’, than disease-causing stress hormones. So this St Valentine’s day indulge a little and think of all those healthy endorphins. You could even try chilli chocolate – and give yourself a double whammy! Sue Blain Naturopath

Around about this time, but one or two years ago! March 1961 - George Formby died

when responding to advertisers please mention ‘most wanted’

18

On March 6th 1961 George Formby, one of Britain's most popular entertainers, died after suffering a heart attack. Born George Hoy Booth in Wigan in 1904, he was the son of a music hall star who performed under the name of Formby. When George was seven he was apprenticed to a jockey but weight gain meant this was ruled out as a career. So he followed his father onto the music hall stage, making his debut when he was 17-yearsold. His act featured a ukulele, the instrument which was to become his trademark along with his toothy grin. Some of his most

famous songs stem from that era, including "When I'm Cleaning Windows" and his catchphrase "Turned out nice again". Cinema goers flocked to see him in films such as “Spare a Copper” and “George in Civvy Street.” Although his stage persona was that of a good-natured imbecile he was actually a shrewd businessman who amassed a fortune. He retired at the peak of his career because of heart problems. Two months after his wife Beryl died, he surprised many people by announcing his engagement to Patricia Howson but he died two months before they were due to be married.

Doncaster based plumber Paul of Pipedown Plumbing and Heating has experienced an increase in trade over the past months. “It’s mainly down to the help I got from AT Doncaster. Not only do they find me work but they also deal with the whole customer side: everything from contacting the householder, following up on quotes and even chasing up on the payment – the things that I hate dealing with”. Says Paul. “They free up my time to do what I’m best at – being a plumber”.
