On November 8, 2013 Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest typhoon ever recorded, made landfall on the Philippines islands causing massive devastation and destruction. A reported 13 million people were directly affected, 3 million people displaced, and more than 3,000 lives are feared to have been lost. As days have passed, there are still millions who are in need of clean water, food, medical attention, and some form of shelter. In a collaborative effort, various Rutgers organizations have banded together in order to mobilize our resources to do our part in providing aid for the ongoing relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. #RU4PH has chosen to donate its proceeds to the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.'s emergency humanitarian assistance program “Sagip Kapamilya” (Rescue Family). The ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. is the public service branch of the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, one of the biggest media conglomerates in Asia. The foundation works to awaken hope in Filipinos in the spirit of "bayanihan." With the vision of having a "nation where Filipinos can develop their full potential, care for and respect for each other, and are stewards of their environment," the ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. revolves around making a significant impact on certain aspects of a successful community. One of these aspects are disaster management and they offer aid pertaining to that through Sagip Kapamilya. Sagip Kapamilya (SK) is the emergency humanitarian assistance program of the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. They provide relief to hard-hit areas of disasters, as well as engage in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects. SK started in 2004 and has been sending volunteers throughout the Philippines to offer aid and begin rehabilitation efforts with dedication and professionalism. They have a mission to enable families affected by calamity and disaster with a chance to rebuild their lives through humanitarian and rehabilitation programs. SK is working to create an environment that offers safety, care, and generosity to a community built on the values of truth, service, and common good.
