Dear Friends, For more than 40 years, Raphael House of Portland has proudly offered life-saving services to domestic violence survivors and their families. As someone who has dedicated their career to this work, I am honored to share about how we are growing in exciting new ways. These changes are the direct result of advocates and survivors working together to end the cycle of violence and address our community’s changing needs in creative and innovative ways. These programs are our shared hopes and dreams, and they are designed to have the greatest impact, with survivor voice leading the way. I’m excited for what survivor-led mentoring and our new services can grow into. We all knew in our minds just how powerful this programming could be. But as we’ve begun the actual work, it has been confirmed in my heart and soul: these programs are going to encourage and empower survivors in ways we could never imagine. I hope you will consider making a gift to support these voices on their path to safety and stability. Your donation has the power to change lives. Warmly,

Linda Green Shelter to Stability Coordinator and S.W.A.G Mentor Program Facilitator

SURVIVOR-LED ADVOCACY

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RECOVERY MENTORS Helping survivors overcome addiction and thrive after abuse. The first of its kind in Portland, this survivor-led, peer support programming serves survivors who are struggling with addiction as they transition from violence into safety. Our Domestic Violence Recovery Mentors offer lived experience in both recovery and as survivors themselves, and are uniquely able to provide a wide range of specialized supports.

NEW PROGRAMS

S.W.A.G. MENTOR PROGRAM Building a supportive community where survivors learn from each other and gain essential life skills. Our Shelter to Stability program, which removes financial barriers that prevent survivors from getting housed, has expanded to include ongoing advocacy. The S.W.A.G. Mentor Program (Survivors are Worthy, Awesome, and Gutsy) is a survivor-led mentorship group that meets weekly to learn about life skills that help families stay housed. Our new Family Services Advocate will further support participants in building long-term stability as they transition from shelter into housing.

One in three adolescents will experience some form of abuse. That’s why we’ve partnered with VOA Home Free, the Oregon School-Based Health Alliance, and Portland Public Schools to provide advocacy at two local high schools. Expanding our Prevention Education services beyond the classroom, Healthy Relationship Advocates work one-on-one with teens while maintaining their safety and confidentiality.

ADVOCACY IN HEALTHCARE Healthcare visits offer a vital opportunity to reach survivors and provide them with resources and support.

Through this new project, we are increasing survivors’ safety and well-being by giving them direct access to confidential advocacy services at their doctor’s office.

NEW PROGRAMS

Just talking to a healthcare provider about domestic violence can increase access to supportive services, improve health outcomes, and reduce the risk of violence. Raphael House is proud to partner with VOA Home Free and provide two advocates stationed at OHSU Family Medicine at Richmond.

COLLABORATION AND INNOVATION NEW PROGRAMS

SEX TRAFFICKING ADVOCACY Further integrating sex trafficking expertise into our work, while empowering more survivors. Recently the community was slated to lose a crucial program that has served sex trafficked youth ages 12-25 since 1998. When our sister agency the Sexual Assault Resource Center found themselves without the infrastructure to support this critical programming, Raphael House was thrilled to fold their team of three dedicated advocates into our agency and keep this program running seamlessly.

TRAFFICKING PREVENTION EDUCATION Working to address and reduce sexual exploitation and trafficking by educating youth. Our newest Prevention Education Specialist will provide trainings for high school students, teachers, and parents that focus on sex trafficking prevention. We are proud to be part of a coalition of agencies who are working together to serve youth at risk of or already experiencing exploitation.

OUR CORE SERVICES ARE STILL CHANGING LIVES Even as our programs expand, Raphael House continues to offer the same life-saving services that our community relies on: emergency shelter, 24-hour phone support, housing assistance, ongoing supportive programming for survivors, and prevention education. Your gifts make all this possible – thank you!
