Denial. Everyone experience denial some time in their life. Especially in unpleasant situations, where we are faced by the dark truth; a bitter reality we must accept one way or another. It is a feeling that we often oversee, we didn’t realize that we have been refusing something as not true. Thus, as an artist, I feel like it is a complicated word to be expressed visually. Ultimately, throughout this book, I incorporated different paint strokes with no specific shape, indicating a nonpictorial element of the word denial, since everyone experience denial in different ways. Regarding the poem itself, I can see denial by the different mixture of feelings and emotion in each of the poem; especially the first three poems, I figured that there is a failure to acknowledge an unacceptable truth or emotion. —Maharani Yasmine Putri
