UniTek Global Services

Leadership Succession Plan Overview UniTek Global Services has implemented a leadership assessment program that looks to business achievements, performance results and leadership qualities to identify and develop our top talent. The program also assesses potential, including the ability to assume roles with increased complexity and accountability, capacity to make significant future contributions and capability for continuous learning. Criteria for succession/selection includes, but is not limited to, prior and current experience, education, certifications, training, performance reviews, observation, awards, and Unitek University online transcript review. UniTek Global Services defines advancement readiness for top performers in two categories: high potentials and high professionals and satisfactorily placed. High potentials have expectations of outstanding performance, aspirations for managerial advancement and executive confidence that they can compete for progression in the organization. High professionals, on the other hand, have an expectation of outstanding performance but aren't expected to advance in the near future. Through the UniTek Global Services’s succession planning process, we can make sure employees are recruited and developed to fill each key role within the company. Successful succession planning by the UniTek Global Services builds bench strength and as a result our Company is well prepared for expansion, the loss of a key employee, filling a new, needed job, employee promotions, and organizational redesign for opportunities. To develop our employees we use such practices as lateral moves, assignment to special projects, team leadership roles, and both internal and external training and development opportunities. By helping managers identify potential skills and competency gaps, we can proactively train and groom talent across all key positions in the organization. Goal We need to ensure stability in leadership and avoid extended and costly vacancies in key positions. A succession plan will help identify current employees who are already positioned to move up in the company, as well as help identify high potential employees that are in need of development to make future moves. The plan should also consider employees who are not currently at the top of the list but who show promise. These employees are our future.

UNITEK UNIVERSITY ONLINE

UniTek Global Services

Once the top talent is identified, the next step in the process should include the development of these employees so they will be well prepared when needed to step in and take charge of the targeted positions. This will involve a well-conceived training and development program. Action Plan Senior Management will identify key positions and employees targeted for succession planning. Leadership committees will be created to calibrate the employees based on the criteria/characteristics needed for the next role in the company e.g., leadership, job knowledge, process oriented, people skills etc. The goal of the committee is to identify the employees who show the potential needed to be promoted into these targeted positions using the nine (9) box.

Positions without Internal Successors Emergency positions are those where no successor is available or no successor with developmental potential exists. Emergency positions are critical because the organization has already determined the key roles and future organizational needs. When a succession plan has a vacancy, the organizational operations may be at risk in the event of a departure. In the case where no developmental potential exists in an employee, organizations need to ask themselves whether this employee has the ability to bring value to the organization. In some cases an exit plan may be appropriate

Keeping the Plan Current ‣How will the plan be kept current? ‣Develop a recurring timeframe, whether semiannually or annually. ‣Determine effectiveness of existing plan. ‣Determine whether the current plan still meets the organizational objectives. ‣Determine whether the candidates have changed and make necessary adjustments in the plan. ‣Assess and develop new candidates as with initial plan.

Communicating the Plan ‣Determine the method of communication; all staff meetings, employee newsletter, public affairs announcement, etc. ‣Take this opportunity to inform employees about the benefits of developing a succession plan and how it affects them. ‣Employees recognize that we look toward the future with optimism and invests in employee development and growth.

Instructional Design & Training Instruc*onal Design  Model Instructional Design of Training Modules UniTek University Online incorporates modified variations the ADDIE module of instructional design for its learning modules. Action Mapping is a variation of instructional design used to set goals, identify behavior or lack there of, brainstorm practice activities, and identify necessary information. ADDIE Model of Instructional Design Instructional design model consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation.  Each step has an outcome that feeds into the next step in the sequence. The five phases of ADDIE are as follows:  1. Analysis During analysis, the designer identifies the learning problem, the goals and objectives, the audience’s needs, existing knowledge, and any other relevant characteristics.  Analysis also considers the learning environment, any constraints, the delivery options, and the timeline for the project. 2. Design A systematic process of specifying learning objectives.  Detailed storyboards and prototypes are often made, and the look and feel, graphic design, user-interface and content is determined here. 3. Development The actual creation (production) of the content and learning materials based on the Design phase. 4. Implementation During implementation, the plan is put into action and a procedure for training the learner and teacher is developed.  Materials are delivered or distributed to the student group. After delivery, the effectiveness of the training materials is evaluated.

UNITEK UNIVERSITY ONLINE

UniTek Global Services

5. Evaluation This phase consists of (1) formative and (2) summative evaluation. Formative evaluation is present in each stage of the ADDIE process. Summative evaluation consists of tests designed for criterion-related referenced items and providing opportunities for feedback from the users. Revisions are made as necessary.

Lesson Model Anatomy of a Lesson - based on PMI’s curriculum style guide A lesson is a single, self-contained educational presentation. A course is a collection of related lessons. One lesson typically contains several modules, or Level 1 headings, as they are labeled in the storyboard. Lesson components include: • Background • Strategies • Examples • Application (Action Items) • Quiz • Summary Although lessons may be made up of multiple modules, not every element must be present in every module. Background Background material can consist of a definition, general concept, or history of what will be discussed. It may also include any prerequisite knowledge that might help a client understand what is about to be taught. Use of metaphors or stories drives home a concept. The background is also the place to include an explanation of why the learner should care about this topic. Make it motivational! Get the learner excited about what they are going to learn. Strategies This is where you would explain procedures, rules, step by step instruction and so forth. The strategies element represents the nuts and bolts of the lesson. Along the way, do all you can to make your strategies motivational. Remind the learner how a specific strategy is going to benefit their business. Every module should contain at least one strong strategy, but many modules will contain more.

UNITEK UNIVERSITY ONLINE

UniTek Global Services

Examples Examples are concepts in action. A client can read something, hear something, and even understand something logically, but examples bring the lesson to life and speak to the learner in a way that sheer facts cannot. Examples may include illustrations or demonstrations that help make a point or further educate a learner. Feel free to make up scenarios of how a certain strategy might play out for the learner if followed exactly as taught. Action Items Action items are found at the end of every lesson and lay out the steps a learner can take to put the lesson concepts into practice. Within a course, the current lesson’s action items become the next lesson’s prerequisites, which make up the What You Should Know section of the guide and storyboard. A good lesson has between four to six action items, although it can contain more depending on what it takes to teach the objectives of the lesson. Quiz The quiz is found at the end of the lesson, right before the Action Items module. It is a scored evaluation used to measure a learner’s understanding of the lesson. This score is an indication of how ready the learner is to move on to a new lesson. NOTE: For consistency sake, all quizzes should have exactly 10 questions. The learner should always know to expect a 10 question quiz at the end of each lesson. Mini lessons (under 15 minutes) and tutorials are the exception. A hands-on tutorial might have no quiz and mini lessons should have 5 quiz questions. If you have a question concerning the length of a quiz for a given lesson, ask the Curriculum Coordinator. Summary To summarize is to reinforce the reason the learner participates in the program to begin with. It is the process of reminding the learner of their goals and how the concept being taught is bringing them one step closer to those goals. It is a carrot dangled in front of them that they should constantly see and smell in order to keep them motivated and moving forward in their program.
