Word Formation If you feel better about who you are, you are more likely to find friendship and hapiness. -Words can be formed by adding a prefix(at the beginning) or a suffix(at the end) to words. -Here are some prefixes: un-, dis-, im-, mis-. certain- uncertain appear- disappear possible- impossible understand- misunderstand


-These prefixes often make the new words negative or give them an opposite meaning of that of the original word. -Here are some suffixes: -ness, -ful, -less, ship. happy- happiness care-careful end- endless friend-friendship When words of two or more syllables end in –y, we change the y to an i before adding the suffix.
