Tidings A Fond Farewell To Worthy Registrar

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor honouring the outgoing Registrar Dr. (Mrs.) Shimla, Registrar of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad on September 9, 2014 was relieved from her du es in the University to join her parental organiza on Lok Sabha Secretariat at New Delhi as Director (Interpreta on). She was on deputa on and joined the University on April 17, 2012 as the first Registrar since its incep on in 2009. A er her relinquishment of charge Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dean of Faculty took over as Officia ng Registrar. University's Employees Associa on bid farewell to Dr. Shimla outgoing Registrar for her dis nguished service as an efficient administrator and Registrar. Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Retd) K.S. Yadava was also present on this occasion. Describing Dr. Shimla's tenure, Mr. Yadava said that during her challenging tenure of about two and half years, she put lot of efforts to streamline administra ve setup and improved the services to faculty and students. She performed her du es with extraordinary dedica on. He said that Dr. Shimla may have served the University ll March, 2015 but due to her commitments with the parental organiza on she has been leaving. He said that Dr Shimla has played vital role in preparing

rules and regula ons of the University and will always be remembered for her services. He also presented a bouquet and shawl to Dr. Shimla and extended his best wishes to Dr. Shimla for her future assignments. In her farewell speech, Dr. Shimla highlighted the achievements made by the University in her tenure. She thanked ViceChancellor for his support and guidance. While describing her tenure full of sa sfac on, she said that the University came into existence in the year 2009 and it has made tremendous progress in a short span of me. The University has got 2(F) and 12(B) status by University Grant Commission and also honoured by ASSOCHAM for Best Upcoming University. Apart from this, educa onal and ins tu onal facili es have been upgraded and new recruitments have also been done and this has all been possible because of the constant efforts made by the ViceChancellor who has a visionary approach. Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dean of Faculty also spoke on this occasion. All the Deans, Chairpersons, Head of Sec ons and staff members were also present on this on occasion.

TREE PLANTATION The tree planta on camp was organized in the YMCA University of science and Technology on October 28,2014. The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor was the chief guest of the day.Dr. PR Sharma and Dr. Vasdev Malhotra welcomed the The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor and then he planted a tree in the guest house compound and asked everyone must plant at least one tree and con nue the sacred cause. The students of the University planted the trees in the parking arena, guest house, behind Mechanical block, and near Shakuntalum ground. At the end refreshment was given to the students.

Tidings BARC OUTREACH PROGRAMME

Organising time with Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and other distinguished guests energy. Professor Gaurav Malhotra spoke on “Nuclear Medicine” and its importance in scin lla on imaging for diagnosis of diseases. A special lecture by Sh. D. Mathur on “Career opportuni es in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)” was held on the closing day. Dr. Maneesha Garg, the convenor of the programme won laurels for having brought the exper se of eminent scien sts to the state of Haryana. Much synergy was generated in the academic circles of the region from this interac on with the BARC and NPCIL scien sts. The exhibi on presented a glimpse of indigenous technology. The students could appreciate the strength of Indian atomic and nuclear programme. The worthy Registrar was thrilled by some of the exhibits that she requested BARC to test samples from the city and suggest solu ons available with them that could address the water issues in Faridabad, including the University. The event received a wide coverage in na onal dailies and was telecast on the Rajya Sabha TV on two consecu ve days in English and Hindi in the programme 'GYAN VIGYAN'. Dean FET Dr. Sandeep Grover applauded the organizing team including Dr Anuradha Sharma, Dr. Divyajyo , Dr. M.K Yadav, Ms. Nisha, Ms. Renu Sethi, Dr. Reena, Dr. Neetu Gupta, Ms. Jyo , Ms. Bindu Mangla, Dr. Sonia, and Dr. Renuka for their coordinated efforts. Dr. Maneesha thanked the HAS team and also other departments for support especially, Mr. Bharat Bhushan(EL), Dr. Arvind Gupta(Mech) , Dr. Shailendra(EL),Mr. Bhupinder(Mech), Dr. Munish Vashisth (Electronics) and Sh. Anil Kumar(SDO).

The two-day BARC Outreach programme organized by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in alliance with the Humani es & Sciences Department of the University and Nuclear Power Corpora on of India Ltd.(NPCIL) was held successfully at the University from September 2, 2014 to September 3, 2014.The event comprised of seminar and exhibi on, along with a BARC custom quiz under the overarching theme “ Atomic Energy : Gearing Up for Future”. The Dean HAS, Dr Rajkumar delivered the welcome note on the inaugural ceremony presided by Lt. Gen Yadava, the Hon'ble VC. Sh Yadava commended Dr Maneesha for pu ng YMCA University on the map of BARC's na onwide programme. Sh. K.A.P Sinha (IAS), Joint Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy(DAE) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He put emphasis on dispelling doubts that riddle the general understanding on the subject. The focus was on the construc ve uses to which nuclear energy could be harnessed. Dr. M.L Aggarwal, Chairman, Mechanical also graced the occasion. Sh. R.K Singh, Head of Media and Publicity Cell, BARC discussed the endeavour of BARC to popularize science. Sh TR Arora, Project Director Anu Vidyut Pariyojna, Gorakhpur, Haryana said that the team through YMCA, Faridabad a empted to reach out to the masses to drive out misconcep ons related to atomic energy. Sh Arora also pointed out that it was important to use nuclear power, if India wanted to be a superpower. He used the catchphrase “No Power without Power” that caught audience's fancy. He talked of Nuclear Power as “clean and green” source of 4

Industry Academia Interaction With the ini a ves of Respected Dean Management Studies, Prof. Navdeep Malhotra, An Industry Academia Interac on, was organized by Dr. Renu Aggarwal in the department of Mgmt. Studies on 12-09-2014. Mr. Anil Kumar Chopra from Nulux Engineer interacted with the students and shared his views on the Interna onal trade prac ces. He had also proposed K L Puri Memorial Gold Medal for the topper of the MBA.

EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR Lt. Gen Yadava took great examples from rou ne where ordinary lives and perspec ves were challenged yielding extraordinary alterna ves. Prof. Sandeep Grover spoke on the significance of the subject and the need to evaluate educa on in terms of " outcome" rather than " output".He emphasized that educa on is truly valuable when it can be applied to change things.Dr. Rachna spoke on the importance of ethics in social engineering. Dr. Arvind submi ed a paper on " employability" stressing the point that a degree has to be accompanied by lifeskills for sustainable employment. Prof. Rajkumar, Dean Humani es & Applied Sciences gave the vote of thanks.

A Seminar on "Educa on that makes a person humane and employable" was organized by the Humani es & Applied Sciences Department of the YMCA University of Science & Technology, Faridabad was held on October 20, 2014. The seminar was convened by Dr. Sukhbir Singh Malik, IAS(Retd.) Chairman,Rashtriya Chetna Shak Founda on(RCF) and presided over by Lt. Gen(Retd.)K.S Yadava. Dr. Harjeet Singh Anand, IAS(Retd.) Principal Secretary to the Government of India was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dean FET and Dr. Rajkumar, Dean HAS were also present on the dais. Dr.Divyajyo , the Organizing Secretary welcomed the dignitaries and the audience.

Dr. Sukhbir Singh Malik urged the university to start a"neighbourhood transforma on programme" using the technical know-how and zest of students to change its surroundings and benefit the residents of the city. He summarized the proceedings and assured the audience that the recommenda ons passed by the house will be sent to authori es for taking measures in this regard.

Dr. HS Anand brought upon his wealth of experience as a topnotch bureaucrat and expert economist to address the twin issues of criminality and unemployment. He also suggested concrete remedies in the form of a Trinity of Innova on, Incuba on units, Customized curricula and Social programmes to foster scien fic spirit and entrepreneurship.

International Academic Interaction (IAI): Prof. RN Singh A & M Texas visits YMCAUST Prof. R. N. Singh stressed the importance of asser veness in achieving ones goals and taking leadership roles. He encouraged the students to demonstrate integrity in corporate affairs and func oning so that long term success can be achieved. He also counseled them about Higher Educa on overseas and PhD degree from US. Dr. Rachna Agrawal, Coordinator IAI, presented a vote of thanks. She thanked to Prof. R.N. Singh, Prof. Grover for presiding over. She thanked to Dr Divyajyo (AP, HAS) for opening up the channel with Texas A & M University which would usher in greater future es. The inaugural session was possible because of vision of Prof Navdeep Malhotra and efforts of his team of teachers from the Management Department.

The inaugural session of Interna onal Academic Interac on organized by the Department of Management Studies was held on 9th October, 2014 with Prof. R.N. Singh from Department of Sociology & Criminal Jus ce, Texas A&M University-Commerce, USA as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Expert lecture, delibera ons and an extended counseling session were organized under the rubric “Value and Implica ons of Asser veness in Corporate & Administra ve Affairs”. Prof. Sandeep Grover, Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology presided over the func on. A documentary on the Management Studies Department was also played. Prof. Navdeep Malhotra, Dean Management Studies remained the facilitator inspiring the students to ask ques ons and mo va ng them for quality educa ve interac on. 5


FOUNDATION’s DAY CELEBRATION Having got the status of a deemed university in 2009, YMCA University of Science and Technology erstwhile YMCA Institute of Engineering ,celebrated its fifth Foundation Day on September 16, 2014. It was an imperative day for each YMCAian and about two months long preparation justified that. The day started off with a formal celebration in the University Auditorium. This included a documentary transcribing the journey of YMCA in the words of few associated with it ,then the choir from the musical society presented 'The Yaman raag' which was followed by acknowledgement of some of the dignified teachers of the University. The Ceremony was greeted with the presence of Mr. Subrat Kumar Pati, leader of the sales of the 'Infosys India Unit'. Also the highlight of the event was the artworks exhibition 'Antarang' by the members of finearts club.

But this wasn't all. The thing most remembered by everyone was a cultural fete organised in the university campus. The fete comprised of technical events, games and food stalls and were highly enjoyed by each and every person who attended that. An 'Expressionless Dance' performance by the members of dramatics society also added to the fun. So this was one day which will remain in the hearts of every individual who was associated with it. Hardwork of the students and teachers got its worth and signified their love for the University. People now dearly await another such function next year to commemorate the awesomeness of YMCA.

FRESHERS PARTY The most awaited day for the new entrants of YMCA came on September 10, 2014. The University celebrated Reizo'14, its Freshers Party with a plethora of performances. The evening began with GANESH VANDANA dance as a token of respect to the almighty. The events that followed proved to be full of lustre. The group song by the musical society followed by a SPOOF on social networking by the drama cs club provided the ardent start required. Then started the Grand Finale of the FACE OF FRESHERS. A er an intriguing Ques onAnswering round followed by a ramp walk, the audience got their Ms. Fresher and Mr. Fresher in Pearl Makkar and Raghav Sharma respec vely.The following performances included BHANGRA, a SPOOF on Zombies and a swashbuckling ROCK BAND show. By this me, the energy in the crowd reached its peak and the people enjoyed their hearts out. The final touch was well provided by a WESTERN DANCE by the dancing society. This performance deserved huge applauds especially with the unsuppor ve weather condi ons. So overall, the day turned out to be the one most enjoyed by the freshers since their arrival in the collegea and we hope to see some of them on stage the next year.

TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATION Teacher's Day is celebrated on 5th of September every year to express our gra tude towards our teachers. We YMCAians, who are so thankful to our teachers for their support, guidance and mentoring celebrated the day and expressed our love for them in the form of a cultural event. The event started with the Ganehsh Vandana, followed by a poem. They were not mere words but emo ons turning out into solid reality. A skit on the JUNGLE SCHOOL was also presented. It portrayed how a teacher shapes the future of this world and every individual. The last item was a song dedicated to all the teachers expressing our respect for them. The overall event le everyone nostalgic; strengthening the Teacher-Student bond even more.

THE JOY OF GIVING WEEK The Joy of Giving was organized from 3rd - 5th Nov 2014 by Department of Humani es and Sciences of YMCA UST, Faridabad. The students of the University presented the Nukad Natak to aware about the social problems and asked to donate the belongings(Old/New)-clothes, shoes, toys, books etc for the privilege children. They collected the same and distributed in orphanages and old age home. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor visited the Anchal Chanyan Orphanage, Baghola (adopted by the University) along with Prof. P R Sharma, Dean(SW) and Prof. Rajkumar, Dean & Chairman (HAS Department) and distributed bags and banquets to the children at Anchal Chanyan Orphanage. YMCA University of Science & Technology, Faridabad celebrated the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October 2014 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (Na onal Unity Day). The programme commenced with paying of floral tributes to Sardar Patel by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen (Retd.) K.S. Yadava and Registrar Dr. Sandeep Grover of the University.The Vice Chancellor Sir addressed the gathering of all students and staff highligh ng the role the great leader. He emphasized the role of Sardar Patel in unifica on of the the country a er Independence. He also stressed the need of youth dedica ng their energy to the cause of strengthening the country. Dr. P.R. Sharma coordinated and supervised various ac vi es performed by the students. Biography of Sardar Patel depicted by students in declama on was well received by the audiences.A short play was presented by the students of the drama cs club of the University on the theme of Na onal Unity. This received a great applause from the gathering. It was then the turn of “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge” by all students and staff administered by Dr. Pradeep Dimri, NSS officer induc ng the spirit of na onal harmony. Sports incharge of the University Dr. Bhaskar Nagar coordinated “Run for Unity” by the students and staff of the University for which district administra on was pre informed and a safe route was followed. Further, an Essay wri ng compe on on the theme of Unity was organized. This phase of the celebra on culminated with patrio c songs and the Na onal Anthem followed by distribu on of sweets.

HEALTH CHECK UP CAMP The health check up camp was organised in YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad on 10-11-2014 in the DSW office for staff members and their families by the Park Hospital Faridabad. The camp was inaugurated by Dean Student Welfare Dr. P.R. Sharma and coordinated by Dr. Vasudev Malhotra. The hospital provided the free facility such as ECG, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, ENT and Eyes Check up. The staff members and their families had the free facili es in the camp.

Tidings Accelerometer Workshop Microbird Techno Club alongwith Edubo x Innova ons conducted workshop on Accelerometer on 1st and 2nd Nov 2014 in which lot of students from different-different colleges ac vely took part and controlled their robo car with the mo on created by their accelerometer sensor.The workshop started with the interac ve theory sessions among the trainers and the students where students learnt about the various concepts and applica ons of the embedded system. A er a brief discussion, the session focused on the accelerometer sensor – the same sensor used in the mobiles for mo on gaming purposes.A er it, the students coded the program for the proper func oning of the sensor i.e. to properly detect the mo on created by the sensor. Finally a er having proper mo on all the students controlled the wireless quad-drive with their coded module. Students finally had a live gaming experience and enjoyed it to fullest.

e-yantra 2014 Two teams from YMCAUST got selected in “e-yantra – Engineering a be er tomorrow” compe on an ini a ve by IIT, Bombay.e-Yantra is a project sponsored by MHRD through the Na onal Mission on Educa on through ICT (NMEICT).This year over 3107 Teams (12,423 College students) across India registered while the total number selected for par cipa on:260 Teams (1040 College students) and our college is among them. Two team that got selected for e-yantra and e-yantra plus had received their respec ve kits on which they have to perform their respec ve tasks from IIT, Bombay. Voice controlled robotics workshop Voice controlled robo cs workshop conducted on 30-31stAugust ,2014 made students design their own voice robots. The workshop was conducted by Microbird techno club, with Edubo x focussed on basics of embedded systems. More than hundred studentsof 1st year to 3rd year from our college and other colleges a ended the workshop. The workshop was aimed at crea ng a prac cal approach towards electronics and crea ng robots which have basic func onali es. Many concepts taught in the session were brought out alive in the workshop. The workshop commenced with the Introduc on on Robo cs and embedded system, in which need of robo cs, types, applica ons, career in robo cs industry were dealt. The expert faculty plus the eager students made the workshop an interac ve one. The basics of ICs including atmega (microcontroller), L293D (motor driver IC), etc were explained and implemented. An introduc on of the so ware PROTEUS was also briefed. A er the theory session, it was the me for its prac cal implementa on. Robot kits were provided to each team which consisted of basic microcontroller board, voice module, etc. A complete demonstra on on making of the mechanical out frame of robot was made through proper instruc ons.Then was the me for the introduc on of the func onal aspects of communica on such as modula on, encoders and decoders, transmi ers and receivers, voice technology. Subsequently, the programming part of the robot began with some fundamentals of C language. Then the most awaited part of the workshop i.e. recording instruc ons in the voice module followed. The day ended with a working robot in the hands of every group exhibi ng a drop like example from the sea of technology. The excellent feedback of students highlighted that they were spellbound with the experience of making their own robots for the very first me and were inspired to gain further knowledge in the field. -Kuldeep Foujdar got selected in ”AMAZON INDIA” through off campus placement. He is first one from university to do so. -One team of college, Pineapple [Chandan Singh, Rahul Daspal and Raja Singla ] selected for ACM ICPC (Associa on for Compu ng Machinery - Interna onal Collegiate Programming Contest) Regionals Amritapuri.It is considered as 'Olympics' of programming compe ons.

Workshops conducted by SAMARPAN, the electrical club. 1. Proteus- PCB designing so ware workshop on 23-24th august. It was low price beneficial workshop in which almost 150 students from 1,2,3 year par cipated. It was great learning experience for all students and they were able to learn something out of their curriculum. 2. Samarpan launched Intel educa onal program in the university. Intel has launch its educa on program all over India and in our College it was held on first week of September in which Intel had surveyed almost 800 students. 3. -An ISTE approved FDP on “Effec ve Teaching and Research” was organized by Mech. Engg. Dep . in 7-11 July, 2014

-The Department has successfully conducted two FDP's in the month of July'14 1st FDP from 15 July 2014- 21 July 2014 tled, “So Skills and Personality Development”. The program was a ended by 31 par cipants. All the par cipants were from different departments of YMCAUST, Faridabad. The program was ac vity based learning and experts involved the par cipants in several ac vi es. The ac vi es made them learn several so skills. The co-ordinator's of the FDP were Ms. Anushree Chauhan and Mr. Rajiv Sindwani.

-·Engineer's day was celebrated by MechNext club on September 15,2014. University level Quiz was conducted and the winners were awarded with cer ficates. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Mech.Engg. emphasised on the importance and history of the special day. -Infrastructure Development :1. 19.5 Lac Equipments added in SOM Lab for Material Tes ng. 2. Girls Toilet(GF) Renovated. 3. Construc on of Ground Floor Room (24 x26 ) for Denfoss India Ltd is in Progress. 4. Faculty Room on I Floor has been completed. 5. Seminar Hall M301 has been furnished. 6. Top officials from 07 industries delivered Lectures to Faculty & Students at YMCAUST July-Sept.2014.

-2nd FDP from 22 July 2014- 28 July 2014 tled, “Applica ons of Mat Lab & SPSS in Research”. The program was a ended by 51 par cipants. Some par cipants from other states like UP., Delhi etc. also a ended the program. The course was run in the lab of the university. The experts gave prac cal knowledge about so wares like MAT Lab & SPSS to the par cipants. Dr. Yashpal, Addi onal Director, Department of Technical Educa on, Haryana was the chief guest for the valedictory ceremony of the program. The Kabaddi team of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has won silver medal in a na onal level event 'Spardha-2014' which was organized by the Indian Ins tute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi (U ar Pradesh).The Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) K.S. Yadava and Registrar Dr. Sandeep Grover congratulated the medal winner team and appreciated their efforts. The Vice-Chancellor also facilitated the team members. He said that the University is commi ed to provide good sports facili es to the sportspersons. He also urged upon students to par cipate in sports ac vi es.The Sports officer Dr. Bhaskar Nagar informed that about 17 teams par cipated in the event and the performance of YMCA team was outstanding. The University team took the silver medal by bea ng CIMAGE Ins tute, Patna in its semi final game but lost to the host IIT (BHU), Varanasi in the final. The member of the silver medalist Kabaddi team include Paramjeet (Captain), Ni n Sheoran, Kapil, Amit, Mohit suhag, Mohit A ri, Ravinder, Akshay, Anshul, Vikas Dhanda, Skim and Prem while Mr. Manjit Singh was the coach of the team. Mr. Singh said that being a Technical University, the par cipa on of students in sports really ma er as they all are from technical background.

Mr. Vikas Nanda from Ananya, the unparalleled, the literary club of Ymcaust, won the Best Parliamentarian Award at I CAN CONFERENCE at IIT DELHI. Ms. Poonam singhal, the cultural head of Ymcaust congratulated him for the success and hoped for more scin lla ng performances in future too in the inter college events and compe ons.

Vikas Nanda and Divij Gupta from Ananya, the unparalleled, the literary club of Ymcaust won the high commenda on awards at ‘THE HINDU POLICY SUMMIT’, organised by The Hindu College, Delhi University and brought laurels to the University.

A team of ar s c painters from the fine arts club of YMCAUST par cipated in one of the most compe ve cultural fest of India i.e RENDEZVOUS, at IIT Delhi and won the first prize in the graffi art event comprising of a cash reward of ten thousand rupees. The team members were Puneet Aggarwal, Agam Singh and Akshay.


Tidings Danfoss Innovator Project Award

Mechanical Engineering students of YMCAUniversity of Science and Technology secured second prize and were awarded Rs. 50000.00 cash of Danfoss Innovator Award for their excellent project “Compressor control of a Transcri cal cycle in mobile air condi oning system”. The Project was prepared by Raghav Ahuja, Sunil Bakshi, Hitesh, DakshDhingra, under the guidance of Dr. Arvind Gupta, Associate Professor Mech. Engg. Department. The award was handed over by Danfoss official in Board Room of YMCAUST on May 28, 2014 in a ceremony in which Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Dean Faculty of Engg., Chairman Mech. Engg. and other University officials were present. The Danfoss Innovator Project Award is an inter-collegiate compe on designed for final year students in Under Graduate (UG) courses. Par cipant ins tutes were PSG College of Technology- Coimbatore, VIT University – Vellore, SSN College- Chennai and YMCA University of Science and Technology- Faridabad. The other two projects (i) “Improving the performance of VCRS by using diffuser at condenser inlet” prepared by NishantNagpal,Nishant Chauhan, SahilGoyal, MayankGaba and project under guidance of Dr. Arvind Gupta (ii) “Thermoelectric Materials for Condenser” prepared by Udita Jain,FalakGoel, Himanshu Grover, Hitesh Dhingra under guidance of Sh. NkhilDev were also selected for final round of the Danfoss Innovator Award.
