Newsletter Vice Chancellor Dr. Dinesh Kumar received Homi Bhabha Memorial Award
Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor, YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, received Indian Science Congress Association's Homi J. Bhabha Memorial Award for year 2015. With this achievement, Dr. Dinesh Kumar became the first Scientist and Vice-Chancellor of any University in Haryana to receive the prestigious Homi J. Bhabha Memorial Award. Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi presented the prestigious award to him during the inaugural ceremony of the 103rd Indian Science Congress which is being held at University of Mysore, Mysore (Karnataka) from from 3-7 January 2016. The focus theme of the ISC is "Science and Technology for Indigenous Development in India". The award, which carries a Gold Medal, has been bestowed on him for his contribution to the development of science and technology in the country, specifically in the area of Microelectronics Engineering and Semiconductor Physics. Dr. Dinesh Kumar, after being bestowed with the honour said that it is an honour and privilege to receive this award from Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi who has unveiled a new chapter in India by introducing concepts like ‘Make in India’, ‘Skill India’ and ‘Digital India’ and promoted Science and Technology for Indigenous Development in India. Dr. Dinesh Kumar an eminent researcher, Prof. Kumar began his academic career in the year 1987 as a faculty at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. His teaching and research career spans over 27 years. As visiting professor and invited speaker, he has visited many countries including France, Germany, Italy, Austria, England, USA, Russia and Australia. He has obtained his Master and Ph.D degree from Cambridge University, U.K. In 2003, he was awarded Commonwealth Fellowship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London to work again at Cambridge University. A bye-fellow of Selwyn College, Cambridge, Prof. Dinesh has published more than 100 research papers. . He has been the Director, UIET, Kurukshetra University and Coordinator of NPMASS project and also worked as the coordinator of Nano Mission Project awarded by Govt. of India, New Delhi.
Newsletter National Conference on Role of Science and Technology, Towards‘Make in India’ (RSTTMI 16),March 05-07,
A National conference was organized in YMCAUST. The conference got off to an auspicious start with Hon’ble Governor of Haryana Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki and other guests lighting the august lamp followed by SaraswatiVandana by the University students on March 05, 2016 . Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar and other officials of the University then felicitated the esteemed guests. Prof. Dinesh Kumar welcomed all the esteemed guests and delegates to the Conference and spoke about the Role of Science and Technology towards “Make in India”, the flagship programme undertaken by the Government of India, and how this conference is going to provide a platform for all the participants in achieving success. The Governor also released souvenir of the Conference and inaugurated ‘Digital YMCAUST’ application developed by the students of the University. Taking a serious note of the issue of ‘brain drain’, the Governor said that the need of the hour is to promote the idea of ‘Think for India’. He said that today, when we are discussing on important issue of ‘Role of Science and Technology towards Make in India’, it becomes very important that we also hold discussions on ‘Think for India’. He also emphasised on the significance of skill development and practical education in educational institutes. He said that the educational institutes should impart such skill based practical education so that the students do not become burden on the society but come out with flying colours. He said that Digital India could not be imagined
Republic Day Celebration University celebrated Republic Day with patriotic fervour and gaiety. The Vice Chancellor of University, Prof. Dinesh Kumar hoisted the Tri-colour at the University premises. He also took salute at march past presented by the Security Staff of the University and addressed the students and staff. The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by patriotic song ‘Vande Matarm’ presented by the students and singing of the National Anthem.

The Vice-Chancellor of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad Prof. Dinesh Kumar released the brochure for the upcoming National Conference on the theme ‘Role of Science and Technology towards Make in India’ was held from March 5 to 7, 2016 at YMCA University premises. Dean, Humanities and Science Department Dr. Raj Kumar, Chairman, Electronics Engineering Department Dr. Munish Vashishath and Assistant Professor Dr. Sonia Bansal were also present on this occasion The second session included Paper presentationson the topic“Role of Science in development of India.” In the next session Professor S.K. Chakravarti(Professor and Dean Academic of NIT Kurukshetra) delivered expert lecture on “Innovations and inventions and their role in development of technology.”Prof. S.P. Singh then introduced the audience with “Concept of Patents and their importance.” The next session involved paper presentation on Role of Science and technology towards “Make in India'".Participants from different institutions and universities put forward their ideas towards science and technology such as Air pollution in Delhi city,Omni directional reflection band, Sustainable approach towards development of India.
YMCA University rated as Top Engineering Institute in Haryana The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, one of Haryana’s top Technical Institutes, has been rated 'AAAA' in an independent rating survey conducted by Careers360, India’s largest higher education and career counselling portal. In the category of ‘Top Engineering Colleges in Haryana 2016’, the University has been ranked number one Engineering Institute in Haryana with ‘AAAA’ rating. Careers360 has recently announced the report of the University and Engineering Rating and Ranking Survey 2016. The report of survey has also been published in the latest issues of Careers360 magazine. The rating has been given on the basis of set parameters including cut-offs of national and state level Entrance exams, Accreditation and Reward status and Publication record from Elsevier’s indexing database – Scopus. 3
Newsletter Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma appointed as Sixth Registrar of YMCAUST Faridabad on March 30.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma, Director, E-Max School of Engineering and Applied Research, Ambala assumed office as Registrar of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad. The appointment of Dr. Sharma has been made on the recommendation of the State Government.Dr. Tilak Raj, Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department, who was officiating as Registrar, handed over the responsibility to Dr. Sharma. He is the sixth Registrar of the University. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar and others congratulated Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma on assuming charge. Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology Prof. Sandeep Grover and Deputy Registrar Dr. Rajiv Kumar Singh were also present on this occasion. Dr. Sharma has a vast experience in Academia, Research and Development, Human Resource Development, Industries and Administration spread over about three decades. He started his career from Kurukshetra University and also worked in some of the premier institutions of learning like Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, NIT, Kurukshetra, MMU, Mullana and many Engineering Institutions. He has been founder member of many academic and technical institutions and member of several academic bodies. He has about 62 research publications to his credit in National and International Journals. His area of research interest include Basic and Applied aspects of Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors, Stopping Power and Range Measurements of Heavy ions in solid, besides nanotechnology. He has worked on Synthesis and characterization of nano/micro structures and device fabrications and had been awarded a major research project entitled Synthesis of nano materials and their applications by Government of India, Ministry of Defence, DRDO, New Delhi. 4
Newsletter Massive Yoga Camp on Yoga Day
The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, in collaboration with the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, organised 2nd International Yoga Day on 21/06/2016 in a befitting manner. As many as about 1500 participants performed yoga in this mega event. The Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Faridabad district provided the technical support to the event for its success. Apart from volunteers from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, large number of people, staff and faculty members, their spouses and students of the University participated in the event, which was held in the University premise. The programme commenced with lighting of the lamp and prayer followed by performance of various yogasanas. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Kumar and Registrar Dr. Sanjay Sharma were also present on this occasion and took part in the yoga activities. The yogasanas were performed in the able guidance of yoga experts from Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan. As many as about 15 yogasanas were performed in four different postures including Tạ akrasana, Trikoṇasana in Standing posture, dasana, Vṛikṣasana, Pada-Hastasana, Ardha C Bhadrasana, Ardha Uṣṭrasana, Sasankasana and Vakrasana in sitting posture, Bhujangasana, Salabhasana and Makarasana in prone posture and Setubandhasana, Pavanamuktasana and Savasana in supine posture by following the Common Yoga Protocol. Kapalabhati and Pranayaam were also performed during the session. The yoga exporters apprised about the yogasanas and their importance in daily routine to make a healthier and positive life.
Condolence meet for Sh. K. K. Kathuria A condolence meeting of the staff and students of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad was held on March 30, 2016 to mourn the sad demise of Sh. K.K. Kathuria, Superintendent, Academic Section. He served the University for over 30 years with great dedication.
Sh. Kathuria, 58, had a sudden heart attack. He was taken to a nearby hospital and was declared dead. He is survived by his wife and two sons. 5
Newsletter Event organized by Women Cell With a view to empower women against sexual harassment, The Women Cell of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with MOB- the alumni association of the University, organised an awareness workshop on “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace: Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013”. Mr. O P Sharma, former ViceChairman of Bar Council Punjab and Haryana was the Chief Guest and keynote speaker of the occasion. The workshop was also addressed by Dr. Alok Deep,former Professor from Nehru College who enlightened the audience with the meaning of “sexual harassment” and also briefed about the responsibilities, principles, functioning of a 'Women Sexual Harassment Cell'. She also shared her experiences of closely working with Gramin Aanchal and NGOs and took the spirit of the young audience to new heights. The composition and functioning of Internal Complaints Committee and District Complaints Committee were also discussed during the workshop. The last segment of workshop saw an interesting session of interjection where youngsters clarified their doubts.

Krishna won 1st prize in 100 mtr., 1st prize in 400 mtr., 1st prize in short put, 2nd prize in relay race, 1st prize in 200 mtr. Krishna was declared Best Athlete during sports day held at YMCAUST, organized on 22 and 23 April 2016.

YMCAUST provided free computer training to non-IT literate persons
The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, on the occasion of National Science Day, organized C. V. Raman memorial lecture to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect’ by Sir C.V. Raman. Dr. R.M.P. Jaiswal, founder President of Vigyan Bharati, Haryana and former Chairman of Department of Physics, Kurukshetra University was the Chief Guest and delivered the key -note address. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dinesh Kumar was also present on this occasion. The lecture was attended by the faculty members, research scholars and students of the University. Paying his homage to the great scientist Dr. C V Raman, Dr. Jaiswal detailed about the scientific journey of Sir C.V Raman and inspired the students through the ‘Life achievements of Sir C. V. Raman and Raman Effects’. He said that Dr. Raman is known all over the world for his work on the diffraction of light by water molecules and he is a real inspiration to all young minds. He was person of strong will power and desire as he came through many obstacles to succeed in his life and students should draw inspiration from Nobel Laureate C.V. Raman. Talking on the importance of national science day, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar said that science plays an important role in our daily life and makes it easier. He urged the students to work for development of scientific temperament in the country.
With a view to contribute in Digital India campaign, the YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has decided to launch a special progamme for imparting free basic computer and internet training to the people of weaker section of the society. While giving this information, the ViceChancellor, Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that the initiative is aimed to provide IT training to 5000 person in a year. Under this programme, the non-IT literate citizens would be trained to become IT literate so as to enable them to operate digital devices, like mobile phones, tablets, etc., send and receive emails and search Internet for information, etc. The citizen would also be trained to effectively access the various e-Governance services being offered to them by the Government. The programme under which two-week basic computer training would be given free of cost, will be run by the Community College of the University. While detailing about the programme, Principal, Community College Dr. Vikas Turk informed that any person between 14 to 60 years of age and having Aadhar UID number can join the programme.
Newsletter All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) signed by Mechanical students
One-day personality development programme organised by the Career Counselling Cell.
The students of Mechanical Engineering of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad have designed and developed an All -Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for Mega ATV Championship 2016 held from March 4 to 7, 2016 at Bhubaneswar (Odisha). The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Kumar today unveiled the All-Terrain vehicle and successful field testing was done by the Team MechNext Racing (TMR), comprising 30 students from the University. The Vice Chancellor congratulated the team members for the successful fabrication of the ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) and lauded the efforts put in by the faculty, students and workshop staff especially the staff associated with the project. He said that getting involved with such kind of projects is a great way to learn the real engineering skills. To design and actually build such vehicle is an experience which students cannot get in a classroom. The vehicle is a unique innovation by the students. It is very light, compact, agile, with better handling facilities, he added. Registrar Prof. Tilak Raj and Dean Faculty of Engineering Prof. Sandeep Grover have also conveyed best wishes to the team.
As many as 200 students of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad attended a one-day personality development programme organised by the Career Counselling Cell. Sista Moorty, Chief Coach from iPower was the chief resource person of the programme. The programme was presided over by Dean, Faculty of Engineering Prof. Sandeep Grover. The programme started with welcome address by Dr Arvind Gupta, President, Career Counselling Cell. He spoke about the importance of Personality Development in the present scenario and the relevance of the programme. Explaining the students the scope and importance of Personality Development in career building, Moorty said, “Communication, knowledge acquisition and individual’s psychology with other factors play important role in shaping a perfect personality.” Prof Grover praised the efforts of Career Counselling Cell for organising such motivational programme and suggested to organise similar programmes in future also. Bharat Bhushan, Ashlesha and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.

Department of computer engineering organized four workshops by Mr. Narender Kumar, Manager SkyTesters.com, Centre of Excellence regarding conduct of practical trainings, seminars, competitions and technical courses to help students to gain skills and become industry The main focus of workshops is on creating awareness among students for Software Testing and give selected students a platform to learn related skills by working on actual projects. Department of Computer Engineering organized an expert lecture for B.Tech and M.Tech students on 26th Feb 2016. The lecture was given by Mr.Vipin Nader, Principal Product Manager with Oracle. Vipin Nader has been working in the Telecom domain for the last 12 years and he talked About:How the technology has shaped the world so far, History of networks, Transition from wireline to wireless (1G to 5G), IOT, Connected Cars, Connected homes etc.
Mr. Deepak Saini and Mr. Anuj Saini delivered an expert lecture on 17th March. The primary agenda of the lecture is to introduce students about an understanding of Semantic Search Engine, Information extraction, Machine Learning, ontologies, rdf, inference engines. Anuj Saini has been working in the Information Extraction domain for the last 15 years and he talked about: • How the machine learning technology has shaped the world so far? • History of inference engines and ontologies. • How the new technologies outside the information extraction are presenting challenges and what we do to solve those. An expert lecture in Department of Computer Engineering was conducted by Ms. Charu Smita.She has close to 13 years of experience in Information Technology industry & has served Fortune 500 organizations like Prudential Financial (New Jersey) & IBM (US) & DBS (a leading public sector bank of Singapore), Telstra (Telecom Major - Australia), Dubai Health Authority to name a few. Currently working as a Project Manager & Leader – Transition & Transformation in IBM, Gurgaon. 11
Newsletter Seminar on Global Warming by HAS Department
The Humanities and Sciences Department of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with Rashtriya Chetna Shakti foundation, organized a seminar on ‘Global Warming, Carbon Emission and Climate Change’. The sole aim of the seminar was to raise the issue of greenhouse gases and carbon emissions that has played a significant role in increasing the rate of air pollution. On this occasion, Dr. H.S. Anand, former Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India was the Chief Guest and key-speaker of the Seminar. The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Dinesh Kumar.
Events in Department of Management Studies Basic Course in Computer Education Basic course in computer education was organized for shopkeepers, students to make them aware about the usage and applications of computer. First Batch was from 18th April 2016 – 2nd May 2016 (2:30PM to 4:30PM on all days) in Language Lab, Management Studies. Coordinator was Dr Navdeep Malhotra. Second Batch from was from 21st June to 4th July 2016 (2:30PM to 4:30PM on all days) in Language Lab, Management Studies. Coordinator was Dr Rachna Agrawal.
