DIRECTOR Every year we gather together in support of Our House and our mission of compassionate care for our friends living with HIV. Although this year looks different, while we cannot all be together in-person, we are thrilled that you are joining us virtually.

a t i R y Marurley H

Never have our programs, services, and ability to be flexible in the ways we provide care, been more important than they are now. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every area of our organization and is challenging our staff to discover new strategies through which we can continue to thrive. We have innovated our means of service to continue upholding excellent care in ways that are safe for our staff, residents, and clients. We continue to provide a sustainable, state-of-the-art home for our residents and extend our services through the Neighborhood Housing & Care Program to reach dozens of people around the Portland area and beyond. We eliminated the HIV requirements at Esther’s Pantry in order to respond to widespread community food insecurity, while still remaining a safe and stigma free space through our LGBTQ+ affirming accreditation. And we remain committed to offering free clothing, household goods, and more, at Tod’s Corner. All of these programs ensure each person is met with dignity and respect. Thank you for being with us right now. For sharing with us, and joining us, in supporting the important mission of Our House, delivering essential services to our diverse community. Our House empowers the community. Your own generosity empowers Our House. It is my hope that this year’s gala both inspires and reminds you of what Our House truly means to those we serve. With immense gratitude,

ABOUT OUR HOUSE With the help of amazing staff, dedicated volunteers, and exceptional supporters, Our House of Portland provides healthcare, housing, and other vital services to people in need living with HIV. Our House has been part of the Portland community since 1988. HIV is a complex and challenging disease that can often be overwhelming. Our services have expanded but our commitment to people living with HIV has remained the same. Our House of Portland is comprised of four fantastic programs: Our House Residential Care is a team of expert clinicians who work with people with HIV who are having difficulty managing independent living. By tailoring nursing, social work and therapeutic everyday activities our clients and residents are able to define what ‘living well’ means to them. Neighborhood Housing and Care Program provides social work services, nursing, and occupational therapy for people in their own homes. NHCP provides support so that our clients can live independently as long as possible. Tod’s Corner provides free clothing and household goods for clients living with HIV. Esther’s Pantry, Oregon’s first LGBTQ+ affirming shopping style food pantry, provides food and personal care items for individuals and families impacted by HIV. Through these four programs, as the health of our residents and clients improves or declines, we are able to provide personalized services within our continuum of care.

Dedicated. Passionate. Full of heart. When considering the 2021 Governor Barbara Roberts Legacy Award recipients, these are all traits which are beyond simply words of affirmation, but characteristics in which they embody every day. Though much like the award’s inaugural honoree in 2019, Governor Barbara Roberts, one essential quality rose above the rest – the awardee’s dedication to Our House. This Legacy Award signifies an unmatched dedication to represent Our House as an ambassador of its services and programs, while also sharing the commitment to a stigma-free environment for all clients, staff, volunteers, and community members. Whether it be through personal, professional, or community engagement, the honoree introduces Our House to new supporters and shares in the vision of universal respect and dignity of life.

2021 RECIPENT GARY MAFFEI As we reflect on the community members who embody the characteristics of the Governor Barbara Roberts Legacy Award. We are honored to announce this year’s recipient Gary Maffei.

Since the late 80s, Gary Maffei, has provided his time, talent and resources to our on-going mission. People all over the world engage in philanthropy for great many reasons. They are motivated by values like those of justice, equality and well-being of others. This year’s honoree, Gary Maffei is the quintessential definition of philanthropy in our shared community.
