Best TA Reviews for January 2018

Executive Exclusive Vasabha Perera - Revenue Manager Name: Vasabha Ishwakirthi Perera Nick name: Vasi Place of birth: Colombo, Sri Lanka Highest Educational Attainment: BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering Work background: Been with DIH since 2007, started off as Front Office Receptionist, and now I am the Hotels Revenue Manager. How did you get involved with the hospitality industry? It has always been my passion to work in hospitality industry. I feel that hospitality runs through my blood and that I have been born to be a part of this trade. Being an Engineer meant a change in trade was a difficult and a long thoughtful decision. However I could not resist the desire I had to join this industry and to make my dreams a reality, thus I grabbed the opportunity and started working for DIH when I had the chance to. What has surprised you most about working with Dubai International Hotel? Like life, working here has been a continuous learning process and behind all the glitz & glamour, working for a hotel really requires a lot of hard work, dedication and an unwavering passion for the job you do. The only way to succeed I feel. What do you think will change about Dubai International Hotel over the next five years? Becoming the best Airport Hotel in the Middle East, wait did you say next five years, ‘Becoming the best Airport Hotel in the WORLD’. If you weren't in the hospitality industry, what would you be doing instead, or what would your life be like? I suppose I would have probably ended up as a pilot or maybe even a financial consultant. How would your friends describe you? Kind hearted, loving, adorable, funny, an overall Mister Nice Guy J. Of course am joking; probably I would be described as being very detail oriented, chatty, unconventional, lively, thoughtful and loyal… I think…!!! If you were forced to relive one 10-minute block of your life again and again for all eternity, what 10 minutes of your life would you choose? Can I give two answers? If its pure emotions, it would definitely be the moment when I officially married my wife. If it’s an adrenaline rush, then it would be the moment I took off on my first solo flight when doing my private pilot license.

Executive Exclusive If your life was a book, what would its title be? ‘THE CONQUEST’ What do you wish you could tell yourself 10 year ago? party so much, invest that money instead.

Don’t

What personality trait do you value most and which do you dislike the most? Honesty, Compassion and Kindness. Dislike people who are deceitful and who are pretenders. What do you regret not doing or starting when you were younger? Thought I answered that…Learning how to invest ‘early’. What food have you never eaten but would really like to try? I am really not very adventurous when it comes to exotic food. Believe me, I have still not tried Durian, and suppose this is something I won’t mind trying. What goal do you think humanity is not focused enough on achieving? Showing compassion towards all other beings. If we achieve this, then all the world’s problems will be solved. What song hits you with a wave of nostalgia every time you hear it? ‘Back Home Again’ – John Denver. What animal or plant do you think should be renamed? Orangutan. What’s the funniest word in the English language for you? Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – funny and just weird… Do you think that humans will ever be able to live together in harmony? YES…Always hopeful and shall have faith in humanity. What trend are you tired of? Skinny jeans for men. Why oh why!!! If you could drop anything you want, worth two million dollars or less, anywhere you want, what would you airdrop and where would you airdrop it? 2 million dollars in my front yard back at home, as my father will surely use that money to build shelter, clothed, feed and give educational opportunities to the needy. What do you think about when you hear the word “classy”? My Mother and Aunty. When was the last time you got to tell someone “I told you so.”? Ha, easy… I am probably saying it as you are reading this…

Good to Know Saying the wrong thing never feels great – but at work, it can be truly horrible. Working life is made up of lots of crucial relationships built on shared

values,

goals

and

attitudes. Your ability to enjoy what you do and be successful depends a great deal on your personal rapport with others – and clear

expectations

and

trust

around each other’s roles and responsibilities. A phrase that slips out of your mouth in the heat of the moment or when you haven’t had time to think can undermine all of this in seconds. It’s not just an outburst of temper or a show of poor taste or disdain that can do damage (although these things are certainly hugely damaging). Often the words that can trigger an awkward silence and undermine colleagues’ view of you can seem fairly innocuous in your mind. It’s only once you’ve said them that you realise the negative effect that they have.

Sometimes, the damage you’ve done

to your credibility isn’t evident even then – it only emerges later, when there’s less opportunity to do something about it. The

everyday

phrases

that

do

damage

in

the

workplace

12 Things you Should Never Say at Work is an Infographic designed to give you early warning of these types of quietly damaging phrases. It doesn’t set out to shock you about office faux pas – rather to make you think twice about the signals you send with everyday language. Its 12 things to never say at work include plenty of phrases that many of us use all the time – but which can badly undermine our credibility at work when we do so without thinking. From “This will only take a minute…” to “You should have…” the language we use with friends and family can produce a very different impression in the workplace. The Infographic, which has been put together by the small business credit firm Headway Capital, doesn’t just provide a list of office faux pas to avoid. It makes a point of suggesting alternative ways to get across what you really mean – and just as helpfully, three steps to help recover the situation quickly after saying the wrong thing. The suggestions for alternative phrases can feel a little repetitive and robotic – you don't want to sound like Apple’s Siri at work – but they’re a great checklist for what you should be trying to communicate in your own, more human, way.

Not

every

workplace

problem comes

in

the

down

to

careless use of language, of course. It can be a huge help to know how to deal with difficult personality types as well. If you find that particular colleagues are frustrating you, backing you into a corner and nudging you towards saying the wrong thing, spend

some

time

with

the

wisdom of Dr. Jody Foster, author of The Schmuck in My Office.
