LOGICS AND INFERENCE

1) You have to read ALL the clues. Read carefully and with attention  Paul, Mark and John have a longer beard than Bart.  Mark, John and Bart have a shorter beard than Quentin.  John and Quentin have even numbers.  Paul, Mark and Bart have odd numbers.

2) You have to START from the beginning again. If you find a CONCLUSION, write it.  Paul, Mark and John have a longer beard than Bart.

This means that Bart has got a shorter beard than Paul, Mark and John. So, Bart must be number 4 or number 5.

BART

 Mark, John and Bart have a shorter beard than Quentin.

QUENTIN

This means that Quentin has got a longer beard than Mark, John and Bart. So Quentin must be number 1 or number 2.

 John and Quentin have even numbers.

Very important clue!!!

Quentin must be number 2, because it’s an even number. And what’s the other even number? It is number 4. So, John is number 4.

QUENTIN

JOHN

 Paul, Mark and Bart have odd numbers.

Very important clue!!!

Remember that Bart was number 4 or number 5. Which one is an odd number? It’s number 5. So, this is Bart.

QUENTIN

JOHN

BART

3) You did the most difficult part. Now, you just have to make inferences by ELIMINATION. Read ALL the clues again. Who is Paul? Who is Mark? One of them is number 1, and the other is number 3. Mark, John and Bart have a shorter beard than Quentin.

QUENTIN

JOHN

BART

We know that Bart is number 5 and that John is number 4. We also know that Mark has a shorter beard than Quentin (number 2). Then Mark has to be number 3, because number 1 has got a bigger beard than Quentin. By elimination, Mark is number 1.

PAUL

MARK
