Dictum of EDITOR Assalamualaikum, By the grace of Allah (SWT), I have got the post which will lead me towards new experience and life lesson. The days of yesterdays and the days of tomorrows in the club are the days of learning. The solidarity, the bonding, the professionalism and the leadership all these are tied in one single name and that is team Rotaract Club of Chittagong.

With the help of Team Chittagong, today I am going to publish the Sixth Monthly Bulletin "SAIL" of the new year 2023-24.

The name of the bulletin of the Rotaract Club of Chittagong is "SAIL". "SAIL" means wing of Boat, in Bengali it's cvj". By using sail with wind a sailor can easily go to the destination. Here the Sailor is the President and all of the club members are Sail. The wind is similar to the speed of their work. Using the wind sailor can reach at the goal. Every rotary year has started with new theme. In the same way, our new President has taken the new theme, which is to "Do Something New By Utilizing Rotaract". We hope that all of you will co operate us.

I wish for blessings to everyone. Err is human. If there is any mistake in that bulletin, then please everyone will apologies me and seeking advice from everyone for correcting the error. Expecting this to be a healthy and beautiful life to all.

We Rotaract club of Chittagong had been complete our 6th month of this year successfully as our year plan.

Happy to say that our 6th regular bulletin “Sail-December” issue has been published after publishing our 5th regular bulletin “Sail- September Issue”.

In December, Sucessfully done Victory Day “Subarno Shoishob”, Charter Day Celebration, Educational Material Distribution, Industrial Visit & BBQ Night Project.

I am really grateful to all of my board & Club members for working as a team. Congratulations to the Best Active Rotaractor Rtr. Azizul Haque.

Understanding and coping with burnout in high-achievers

The term "burnout" was coined to describe reactions to stress in the workplace and other occupational sectors. When applied to an academic context, this idea implies that work, such as studying, necessitates that people, in this case students, be under academic stress and the pressure to perform. This can become chronic when students consistently feel a disparity between their limitations and expectations related to success.

As young individuals – particularly students – begin to outperform at a young age, they are motivated to excel in academics, sports, the arts, and other areas. Parents, educators, and even the media have an unhealthy preoccupation with prodigies. This encourages students to do more than they should at a young age, which can develop into a complex about maintaining their competitive nature by pushing themselves past their limits.

The fear of not achieving sufficient success, missing out on opportunities, and maintaining the reputation established early in their academic lives burdens children significantly. As students transition from high school to university, they have already devoted a disproportionate amount of time and energy to their primary years of schooling. The pursuit of gaining admission to prestigious colleges and sustaining exceptional grades compels high-achieving students to overload themselves with advanced courses and extracurricular activities. This investment often leads to elevated rates of mental health issues, including anxiety and depression, by the time college applications are due.

The desire to surpass everyone, engaging in multiple activities simultaneously including academic, extracurricular, and social, can lead to exhaustion in students, ultimately resulting in burnout. Manifesting in various ways, burnout may cause students to lose motivation, experience fatigue despite adequate sleep, lack confidence in their abilities, procrastinate more than usual, face frequent headaches and irritability, strain relationships, miss out on relaxation time, and ponder "what next?" when the competition to outperform everyone is no longer present.

Burnout at an early stage can alter a person's outlook on life. Students may feel as if they have nothing more to contribute as they lose motivation and interest in activities that they once enjoyed or looked forward to. This bleakness may cause students to reconsider their goals, and the question "Is it really worth it?" may arise.

The pressure to succeed at a young age may jeopardise the development of critical coping mechanisms and resilience. Furthermore, the pressure to maintain high levels of accomplishment may persist, limiting an individual's capacity to attain a healthy work-life balance later in life.

It is essential to understand how to deal with burnout. Students should be encouraged to discuss their workload and emotions of failure honestly with parents and educators.

Transparency about your schedule from the beginning is crucial. If burnout strikes, start with your physical well-being – replace screen time with sufficient sleep, cut out fast food, and reintroduce regular exercise. Opening up about distress can be challenging, as there's a fear of being judged as inadequate or lazy. However, battling burnout alone can make the recovery more difficult.

If your loved ones aren't available to talk to, a therapist can provide expert guidance on causes, coping mechanisms, and life issues contributing to burnout. Setting boundaries and paying attention to your needs significantly aid in recovering from burnout. The key is to keep things real, prioritise self-care, and stay true to your limits.

While having aspirations and a strong desire to succeed are admirable, it's important to understand the possible risks of overcommitting at a young age. Due to the progressive nature of burnout, its effects become apparent over time and significantly impair day-to-day functioning. Being fatigued isn't the only aspect of burnout. It's a complex problem that calls for a multifaceted solution.

Hunger walk draws attention to climate change, food insecurity

Early on a Saturday morning, as the sun cast a warm glow over the gathering crowd, we marveled at the diversity of those assembled for the first event of our FutureFeed campaign. The event was an awareness walkathon organized to advocate for climate justice and food security in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund of Nepal and Rotary members, Rotaractors, celebrities, and Save the Children Nepal. We wanted members of the community carry signs during to host a fun event that would both the hunger walk in Kathmandu. convey the urgency of climate change and food insecurity and engage a wide audience.

When many people think about climate change, they often think only of temperature shifts, overlooking other impacts such as rising food insecurity. Climate change disrupts agricultural patterns, leading to crop failures and food shortages.

That exacerbates poverty and inequality and leaves vulnerable communities even more defenseless against hunger.

Food insecurity is not just about lack of food, but also about not getting the necessary calories. In urban areas, due to disrupted agricultural patterns, people rely heavily on junk food and contaminated produce containing pesticides and insecticides, failing to meet their calorie needs. In major cities of Nepal, families – particularly those with children in their developmental stages – often avoid market-available produce due to fear of toxins.

Recognizing these issues, we organized an engaging and interactive walk to educate the community and urge action. On a weekend when people could have chosen to sleep in, many woke up at 7 a.m., demonstrating their profound sense of responsibility for addressing these two issues.

The rhythmic beating of traditional musical instruments echoed in the air, harmonizing with loud slogans chanted by the walkers. People carried artistic banners demanding climate justice and food security. The slogans were soon echoed by passerby, creating a powerful chorus.

A total of 510 people from diverse backgrounds – young and old, celebrities, ordinary citizens, and individuals of various ethnicities – came together for our 10

International Voice Hunger Walk. Watching the event unfold, we were deeply moved by the genuine empathy and unity displayed by the participants. It wasn’t just a walk; it was a collective journey towards a brighter, more sustainable future.

What struck me most was how the event bridged the gap between celebrities, environmental activists, the National Human Rights Commission Team, Rotarians, influencers, representatives from international organizations like WWF Nepal and Save the Children Nepal, and members of the Wheelchair National Cricket Team. Everyone walked side by side, sharing stories and experiences.

As we neared our destination, flash mobs attracted more attention to our message.

Participants realized that these issues were not isolated concerns, but shared challenges demanding collective action. Conversations continued long after the event ended. Individuals openly shared their personal experiences with each other. Social media platforms buzzed with posts about the issues and the walk. Local news outlets carried the story, amplifying our message further.

The inclusivity and diversity of our walk didn’t just make for a successful event, it ignited a movement.

Change begins with a single step, but it gains momentum when those steps are taken in unison. The Hunger Walk was more than just a walk; it was a leap towards a future where the effects of climate change are minimized, no one goes to bed hungry or relies on tainted food, and every individual – regardless of background – contributes to creating a more sustainable society.

The walk was just the beginning of our FutureFeed campaign, a dedicated effort to advocate for climate justice and food security. Stay tuned for more impactful activities as we continue our journey toward a more sustainable and equitable future!
