YOUTH SPORTS

CHARACTER FIRST, COMPETITION SECOND

The youth sports program at the Y has four goals regardless of the skill level of each child: skill improvement, knowledge growth, character development & most importantly FUN! An instructional program focused on giving children an equal opportunity to improve game fundamentals, game knowledge, sportsmanship, teamwork & appropriate competition. Levels may be combined or divided based on enrollment.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

March 19th - June 16th The Youth Basketball League will teach tactics and fundamentals through coaching and games provided by the Y: skill and excitement will be at an all-time high! Come join the fun! Practices during the week, with games on Saturdays. Participants will receive team shirts. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors will play 3 on 3. Teams will consist of 5 players. You may sign up as a team or as an individual. Mites and Mighty Mites will meet only on Saturdays at Sealed Air. They will all practice together for 45 minutes and then be separated into teams and scrimmage for another 45 minutes. Times for each league on Saturdays are TBD. This class is for boys and girls of all skill levels and will teach good sportsmanship, teamwork and the fundamentals of basketball. Lakefront Branch Beginner Ages 4-7 years Tuesday 4:15pm-5:00pm Intermediate Ages 8-11 years Tuesday 5:00pm-6:00pm Winter: $40 Member/$56 General Public (7 wks) Spring 1: $45 Member/$65 General Public (8 wks) Spring 2: $40 Member/$56 General Public (7 wks)

PEE WEE SPORTS AND GAMES

This class is for boys and girls to have fun and develop their muscles as they are moving around playing various sports and games. Parents are encouraged to participate with their child. BOXING FOR BEGINNERS

Learn proper punching and footwork technique, practice pounding the heavy bag, and getting a rhythm out of the speed bag. The entire range of skills exclusive to boxing can be both taxing but also incredibly rewarding. Whether you are interested in learning the sport to compete or simply want to make sure you get the most from a boxing workout, this class is for you. Each class will have a different focus, be it ring work, boxing fitness, hitting the mitts, or beating up the bag. The last 15 minutes of the Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes is entirely optional and focuses on non contact sparring drills to help learn what makes the “sweet science� so sweet.
