The training should start when as a puppy and it should start with house training where the puppy is trained where to 'go' and where to stay. Training old dogs is difficult because you will be trying to modify their behavior. When training tricks, when training for sport, when obedience training, or when doing house training, you should:

Use one-bite treats as these will help the dog learn faster, as will making lessons fun. Make the training short to avoid boredom and make sure there is consistency. Teach your puppy one lesson at a time to avoid confusion. Only punish if you catch it in the act. They will not know why they are being punished if you do otherwise. Get professional help if there is a need for it and read on how to train your specific breed. This is because different breeds have different capabilities, weaknesses, and needs. Training should go on throughout the dog's life. This will keep the dog focused and it will keep his mind active. Bored dogs are more likely to get into trouble.

The benefits training are: 1) You get to prevent bad dog behaviors. Such behaviors include aggression, excessive barking, and digging. Behaviors such as aggression can have serious consequences. 2) Training dogs is fun and rewarding. You will get a sense of accomplishment when they start following orders and other lessons you have given. 3) In some cases, training a dog is the only way to avoid losing the dog. Such circumstances include when a dog has bitten someone and when you have rescued a dog from a shelter or from the streets. 4) Obedience training will prevent your pet from attacking people. This is particularly important if you have an aggressive dog or a guard dog. Giving commands such as 'down' or 'sit' will prevent the dog from jumping on people. 5) Obedience training means you will not have to drag them down the street as you are walking it. 6) Training a dog creates the perfect opportunity for bonding. Boding is only possible if you spend a lot of time with the dog and it should go to such a level that it considers you to be the leader of

its pack. Boding is important for the dog and for the owner. 7) Trick training is fun for the dog and for the owner. It reduces your boredom and it challenges you and the dog. 8) A well trained pet will have confidence and high self-worth. It is only fair to build your dog's confidence and self-worth since it is part of your family. 9) Dog training can have monetary value, especially if you are training the dog for a sport or if you are training dogs as a business. All in all, a badly trained dog has no place in the homestead because not only is it dangerous to family members, it will not give you any pleasure. You should therefore take your dog training seriously.
