Batch Production Design a product to sit on a desk, the product should be designed for batch production. You must undertake a study into the materials and processes that would be used in manufacturing this product.
Jesmonite AC100 properties that make it a firm choice for batch production:
Material Study I undertook a study into how the material sets and what conditions it needs to cure smooth without any air bubbles defecting them. The jesmonite components will be moulded in silicone moulds for batch production.
PIGMENTS AND TEXTURES ADDED
SMALL PRODUCT-CURING TIME LESS THAN 24H
CAN BE MACHINED
Clarity: Desks, hallway sides and bedside tables often become cluttered with small but important everyday items. I aim to explore a way of containing these items in a clean, yet useful product that provides the user with a clearer view of what’s on their desk.
Goldfinch Bird Feeder Design and produce a bid feeder that must be able to hang on a branch, be cleaned and filled easily. Consider how this product would be manufactured.
Goldfinch Properties Feed mainly on small niger seeds Size: length 12cm approx, weight 14-19g Small, pointy beaks allow them to feed from small areas.
Feeder Properties Top baffle that tilts upon contact- to protect the seeds from being eaten by squirrels and other pests. Multiple perching positions to attract numerous birds. Twist off lid for easy cleaning and to refill seeds.
Steering Wheel Design a product of your choice, produce a CAD model that can ultimately be rendered/animated.
Hand drawn quick sketches and photoshop rendering to show colour and depth. Above shows material samples and final solidworks models before importing into keyshot.
Feature and Form Through sketching, re design an everyday item focusing on the product detail.
Non Literal Product Design a ‘Non-Literal Product’, i.e a product that has no prescribed function, but which consciously manipulates how an electronic, personal, domestic or business product can be perceived. The semantic should be appropriate to a mass manufactured small-scale product. Style: Fluid.
Solidworks Replicate exactly, a household item using 3 or more parts.
Design Placement From March -September 2018 I completed a placement with NY design in order to develop my skills and to get an insight into working with live clients.
