Bob Evans Market

2014 Project Type: Commercial

Location:

1510 N High St Columbus, OH 43201

Collaborators:

Allison Bartholomew Julie Vash

Website: http://issuu.com/bobevansstudio For this studio we worked in Collaboration with Bob Evans Corporation to help update their model in a conceptual sense in order to appeal to the millennial generation. The concept of the use of the is building is to provide prepared food to-go with commonly needed grocery items for busy families or young adults just starting to learn how to cook, as well as a dine-in experience of Bob Evans foods. Bob Evans Market is a versatile preengineered box where the size and program can change depending on the site and what the demands are for that particular market. We chose this program because of the demands this particular market required. We integrated the restaurant, kitchen, cafe and the grocery together to be better used and shared between the three programs. We also added a second floor for a study space for students to use since this particular Bob’s is located on the South Campus.

Rodear Giro

Buenos Aires, Argentina

In Spanish, Rodear is translated to Wrap and Giro is Turn, so a Wrapping Turn is what inspired this project. Initially starting as a semi-2D model of two strips of paper wrapping each other and while remaining true to the original model I developed a Museum for Buenos Aires and a School of Architecture hybrid. Program for the school included several studio spaces for the students, classrooms, and administration while the museum required 4 main gallery spaces, an auditorium, entryway, and administration space all cumulating in a 17,000 m2 building. This project is located on a long thin site beside Calatrava’s bridge, the Puente de la Mujer, which is a pedestrian bridge that crosses over some recreational dikes in the rapidly booming Puetro Madero District. The angled curve that is the museum while the gently arching curve is the school over on top, each acting independently but wrapping around the other. Where the curve intersect is the elevator cores and the express vertical circulation.

Light_LESS Pavilion

Jessica Kim Mian Wang Nicolas Benzansan

Light_LESS Pavilion interperets the idea of “light in multiple ways. First is the lightweight paper panels that is the structure of the surface. Secondly, these paper panels are folded in order to become porous and allow light through their many voids. Finally, the idea of light is also portrayed through the weightlessness that is created by supporting the structure with helium filled balloons. This system of suspension allows the material to maintain its free-forming shape while still acting as an intractable shelter. When walking or crawling through the structure, people can insert portions of their body through the tubular voids which are created where the material is opened and draped from the upper parts of the structure. This project was unique in the fact that it was created full scale and was outdoors where it behaved completely differently in the breeze as a rippling surface than it would in the stagnant air indoors.
