Hope Action Committee

is proud to begin serving Oklahoma City. The nonprofit foundation was founded by Rachel Benbrook in August 2012. The mission of the organization is to alleviate homelessness in Oklahoma City. Unlike a traditional homeless shelter, Hope Action Committee will provide job training and life skills for those seeking assistance. Currently, Hope Action Committee has a homeless shelter, office building, and retail store. The facility also has a central office and a retail store. The retail store is a place for residents to practice job skills while they are seeking employment.

The store relies on donated items for inventory. Hope Action Committee will not refuse help to anyone. To accept the services of the organization, the client must agree to begin seeking employment. Our staff are dedicated to the success of each individual. As an organization, Hope Action Committee would like to continue to expand on services available to those in need.

2 A Letter from the President

Thank you everyone who has been a part of Hope Action Committee! We could not have opened our doors in September if it were not for your support. Through the help of donors and the Rock for Hope Benefit Concert we have been able to open our facilities to the public. Each year Oklahoma City conducts the Point in Time survey to assess the amount of homeless citizens. I was astounded to find that in 2010 1,081 Oklahoma City residents were classified as homeless. I became angry over this statistic. I support the mission of homeless shelters to provide temporary housing for residents. Unfortunately, many people who enter homeless shelters have no means of providing for themselves once they leave. Hope Action Committee was created to be a sustainable solution to the causes of homelessness. Our organization desires to help people acquire the skills necessary to succeed. We want to produce quality workers for Oklahoma City. One of the first residents of Hope Action Committee was a woman named Annette. Annette was born into the cycle of poverty. When she first came to Hope Action Committee she did not know how to obtain the proper paperwork necessary to be hired for a job. She did not have access to transportation to seek employment. Our staff was able to give her assistance as she became employed.

The Rock for Hope Benefit Concert helped to raise $15,000 for the retail store. The generous $1.5 million from donors helped to provide the main office and residential shelter. We look forward to continuing to work with our donors. We would not have been able to break ground in September if it were not for your help. We want a quality life for everyone that enters Hope Action Committee. Your financial contributions are changing lives. We look forward to working with you as we invest in people today and invest in Oklahoma City tomorrow. Sincerely, Rachel Benbrook President, Hope Action Committee

Local Artists Host Benefit Concert for Hope Action Committee

The Rock for Hope Benefit Concert was held on Sept. 5, 2012 at the BOK Center. The concert featured several local artists and the Flaming Lips. The concert raised $15,000 for Hope Action Committee. Rock for Hope will become an annual event. The concert next year is scheduled for Sept. 12, 2013. The lead singer of the Oklahoma City band Barlow was excited to share the stage with the famous band the Flaming Lips. His feelings of excitement were not limited to his chance at the spotlight. Nick Poss felt passionately about the issue of homelessness before he agreed to play the concert. Nick has performed in areas of Oklahoma City that have high rates of homelessness. He is excited about getting the Oklahoma City community together to raise money and awareness. “Since Hope Action Committee is a local charity, it is important

many local residents step up and help with their mission,” Nick said. “I think I speak for many local musicians in the downtown area who are heartbroken by the growing issue of homelessness.”

said. “It touches my heart to see celebrities like the Flaming Lips care about the issue.” The Oklahoma City community united behind the cause. Many people left the BOK Center with knowledge of the issue of homelessness in the Oklahoma City area.

Nick Poss is not the only OKC resident to have observed the issue. Mark Smith who was in attendance at the Rock for Hope Benefit Concert was “Hope Action Committee is doing “It is no surprise particularly excited great things for this city.
