www.thewillistontrader.com Informing | Educating | Entertaining October Is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month Once a year, in the month of October, we pause to think about breast cancer. Those individuals who are diagnosed with the disease, others who have lost their fight with breast cancer, and all others who will someday know a loved one or have breast cancer themselves. Throughout the world, breast cancer accounts for one of every three cancer diagnosis in women. One in every 8 or about 12.6% of all women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. Women aged 35-44 diagnosed with breast cancer tend to have more aggressive tumors which result in higher mortality in young women. One out of 210 breast cancer cases occur in women under the age of 40.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in every ethnic group in the U.S. From 2003-2007 the median age for a breast cancer diagnosis was 61 years of age. American Cancer Society estimated that in 2010, 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer would be diagnosed in women in the U. S. with 39,840 deaths. Non-invasive breast cancer accounted for 54,010 women diagnosed in 2010. The American Cancer Society also estimated that in 2010, 1,970 new cases of breast cancer in men would be diagnosed with 390 deaths.

Women in the U.S. aged 50 years and older accounted for 70% of all new breast cancer cases Although there is no known cure for breast and 84% of breast cancer deaths from 1994-1998. cancer, understanding the lifestyle factors that may affect your risk and what can be done to help you stay healthy are important. Some risk factors for breast cancer cannot be changed, some risk factors are lifestyle choices, and some are still under research as to whether they affect our risk for breast cancer or not. Some of the risk factors you cannot change are your gender, aging, genetic risk factors, family history of breast cancer, race and ethnicity, dense breast tissue, and certain benign breast conditions. Women who have had more menstrual cycles because they started menstruating early (before

age 12) and/or went through menopause later (after age 55) have a slightly higher risk of breast cancer. Women, who as children or young adults had radiation therapy to the chest area as treatment for another cancer have a significantly increased risk for breast cancer. Especially if radiation was given during adolescence when the breasts were still developing. Some of the lifestyle related factors are women who have had no children or who had their first child after age 30 have a slightly higher risk of breast cancer. Women using oral contraceptives (birth control pills) have a slightly greater risk than women who have never used them. Some continued on page 6 studies suggest that

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Continued... breastfeeding may slightly lower breast cancer risk, especially if breastfeeding is continued for 1 ½ to 2 years. The use of alcohol is clearly linked to an increased risk of developing breast cancer. Being overweight or obese after menopause increases risk. Evidence is growing that physical activity in the form of exercise reduces breast cancer risk. But how much exercise is needed? In one study from the Women’s Health Initiative, as little as 1.25 to 2.5 hours per week of brisk walking reduced a women’s risk by 18%. Walking 10 hours a week reduced the risk a little more.

Factors with uncertain, controversial, or unproven effects on breast cancer risk are diet and vitamin intake. Some studies have indicated that diet may play a role, while others found no evidence that diet influences breast cancer risk. Studies looked at the amount of fat in the diet, intake of fruits and vegetables, and intake of meat. No clear link of breast cancer risk was found. Studies have looked at vitamin levels, again inconsistent results. Some studies actually found an increased risk of breast cancer in women with higher levels of certain nutrients. So far, no study has shown that taking vitamins reduces breast cancer risk. This is not the say that there is no point in eating a healthy diet. Most studies have found that breast cancer is less common in countries where the typical diet is low in total fat, low in polyunsaturated fat, and low in saturated fat. Antiperspirants, bras, induced abortion, breast implants, chemicals in the environment, tobacco smoke, and even women who may work night shifts are controversial factors or unproven effects on breast cancer risk. More research is needed

to better define the possible health effects of these factors. Preventing and detecting breast cancer early will help save more lives. Yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. Also recommended are Clinical breast exams (CBE) about every 3 years for women in their 20’s and 30’s and every year for women 40 and over. Women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any breast change promptly to their health care provider. Breast self exams (BSE) are important for women starting in their 20’s and continue for life. Some women because of their family history, a genetic tendency, or certain other factors should be screened with MRI in addition to mammograms. Talk to your doctor about your history and whether you should have additional tests at an earlier age. This year at Fairlight Medical Center, we are offering late mammogram appointments on Thursdays the month of October in addition to our regular hours. Fairlight Medical Center is open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Thursday’s late hours will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for mammogram appointments. The theme this year is “Cooking for the Cure. We have fun copies of recipes to choose from to try out at home. One of the hotel’s newest guests said she was pleased with the accommodations. Elizabeth King and her boyfriend arrived in Williston a few days ago from Murphy, North Carolina. “The beds are comfortable, the TV is awesome and the dishes are great, King said. Value Place was started in 2003 by Jack DeBoer – who is credited with creating the extended stay lodging concept. DeBoer founded Residence Inn, Summerfield Suites and Candlewood Suites. But in the early 2000’s, the entrepreneur recognized that the industry lacked an economical extended stay solution. DeBoer started Value Place to offer an affordable, cleaner, safer, simpler and more flexible extended stay lodging solution.

DIGITAL ACCOUNTING Exxon Spends $1.6 Billion in Bakken SERVICES INC. Efficient solutions to everyday problems t"DDPVOUJOH4FSWJDFT

Denbury’s divesting of its Bakken acreage was no surprise. It has built a very good business around Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) in the Gulf Coast and Rockies regions. Denbury’s acquisition of Encore provided EOR acreage, also a large Bakken leasehold.

Exxon paid $1.6 billion for 196,000 net Bakken acres. This acreage is estimated to average 15,000 Boe/d over the second half of 2012. It also gave Denbury operating interest in Webster Field located in southeast Texas, and Hartzog Draw Field located in northeast Wyoming. Denbury has also agreed to purchase CO2 reserves.

McKenzie and northwest Dunn counties. Some of the Williston Basin’s best wells have been completed in this area. The Denbury wells will most likely be recompleted boosting production with a much lower investment than would be needed to drill new wells. Much of Denbury’s acreage is held by production, so Exxon will begin pad drilling in its best acreage. Much of this acreage is in McKenzie County, which is prospective the middle Bakken and up to four benches of the Three Forks. There are also other vertical targets as well. After these formations have been worked, waterfloods will garner further resource. In the end, it’s a win-win situation for both players. AP

ARIES (Mar. 21- April 20) Relationships could be trying this week due to some challenging aspects that could cause arguments. If you want to go on a date or attend a meeting, some of the best days are midweek. Venus squares Mars on Thursday, which may encourage an attraction for another that you might want to pursue. The “big bang occurs over the weekend, when anything could happen. If you’re going on a first date, tread with care. You might overreact and do something you later regret. TAURUS (Apr. 21- May 21) You might have to deal with tension associated with either your work or current health and lifestyle situation. Things could come to a head on Friday or Saturday. If you know what this is about, it might be best to sort it out sooner rather than later.Another possibility is that issues you haven’t dealt with could be creating tension or even illness. Get to the heart of the matter and deal with the root cause so you can relax and feel reenergized. GEMINI (May 22-June 21) Mercury trines Jupiter in your sign on Wednesday, which is great for a first date, business meeting, or the chance to get feedback on an idea. You may feel deeply attracted to someone as you’re going about your daily tasks on Thursday. Watch this space. Saturday needs careful handling, as you’ll be looking for a lot more excitement than usual. The Full Moon in Aries brings powerful feelings to the surface. Don’t take a risk unless you can deal with the consequences. CANCER (June 22-July 22) Activity at home is both constructive and potentially challenging. Midweek you could be busy acting on an idea, especially if you want to transform a room or redecorate. You might have thoughts of turning your home into a cozy love nest. The weekend may be dramatic and not the best time to invite guests over or entertain. Powerful forces suggest that arguments could erupt, and these could spoil a good relationship. Whatever you do, try not to rock the boat.

LEO (July 23-Aug 22) Communication issues are a major focus. You might get an opportunity to join a project or group that you feel really good about. Later, as Venus squares Mars, you may want to invite someone special to your place and see what happens as a result. The most intense day of the week is Saturday. You need to be very careful about what you say. If you imply something that offends someone, you could have a falling out.Tread with care. VIRGO (Aug. 23 -Sept. 23) Your finances might need careful handling, as there are some challenging aspects that could cause problems. This isn’t anything that you don’t already know about, but perhaps an issue that you could have dealt with earlier. Midweek you may be offered a job or contract that helps boost your earnings. That’s the good news. The bad news is that over the weekend a situation that has been waiting to happen may come to a head. Don’t do anything that might make it worse. LIBRA (Sept. 24 -Oct. 23) The ball is in your court. With such powerful influences around this week, you’d better be careful how you handle things. Midweek brings a pleasant enough aspect that may coincide with the offer of a trip. Thursday could reveal a hidden attraction as powerful desires are unleashed. The weekend is more explosive, as the Sun squares Pluto along with a Full Moon in Aries. If you’ve been having an issue with your partner, be very careful how you tread. SCORPIO (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) You might notice tension developing that causes you to feel edgy. Your intuition is quite powerful midweek. You can trust it - it might bring you a reason to be happy. You could later doubt the wisdom of your inner guidance, but don’t! The weekend could be intense, passionate, and explosive, which is something you enjoy. This time, be careful of potential Freudian slips that could cause an argument with fallout. The Aries Full Moon adds to the drama, so take care.

SAGITTARIUS(Nov.23-Dec. 21) Things could get out of hand this week. If you notice tension building, it might help to see the funny side and defuse the situation sooner rather than later. There’s an opportunity midweek to make a new friend or join a group that’s linked with your interests. Over the weekend, the Full Moon in Aries suggests that one romantic liaison may come to a head. If you take a risk, make sure you know where it might lead. CAPRICORN (Dec 22.- Jan. 20) You may have been nurturing your career options, but you need to take care this week, especially on Friday. Things could get out of hand if you aren’t careful. If an issue has been building, it might help to take action sooner rather than later, before you reach the point of no return. However, despite this, there’s also the chance of good news that could give you a boost. Don’t forget to network. Your social life is hot right now. AQUARIUS (Jan. 21 -Feb. 19) Midweek brings a chance to get one exciting project off the ground by being willing to think outside the box. Thursday reveals romantic potential when Venus squares Mars, which suggests that romance with a fellow professional could be a real possibility. Be extra careful over the weekend, as there are some powerful influences about. If you disagree with someone, don’t rock the boat. You could fall out with them for good. Be very tactful if you want to stay friends. PISCES (Feb. 20-Mar. 20) You might get a loan early on that you want to invest in your home. But your finances could take a new turn later as the Full Moon in Aries combines with other powerful influences to bring a few financial revelations your way. Some of them may need immediate action. Whatever you do, try not to panic or do anything that you might regret in the future. If you know what this might refer to, do something sooner rather than later.

On October 5 in 1947, President Harry Truman (1884-1972) makes the first-ever televised presidential address from the White House, asking Americans to cut back on their use of grain in order to help starving Europeans. At the time of Truman’s food-conservation speech, Europe was still recovering from World War II and suffering from famine. In 1947, television was still in its infancy and the number of TV sets in U.S. homes only numbered in the thousands (by the early 1950s, millions of Americans owned TVs); most people listened to the radio for news and entertainment. Although the majority of Americans missed Truman’s TV debut, his speech signaled the start of a powerful and complex relationship between the White House and a TV audience. Each of Truman’s subsequent White House speeches, including his 1949 inauguration address, was televised. In 1948, Truman was the first presidential candidate to broadcast a paid political ad.
