It’s not new anymore, but it is quality coffee in a comfortable atmosphere. Meg-A-Latte Coffee House located at 204 13th Street West, in Williston has quickly become the town’s favorite coffee shop. “Meg-A-Latte coffee house is based on the belief that our customers’ needs are the utmost importance. Our barista team is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business will be from repeat customers and referrals.” Not only does the coffee house have quality drinks and fair prices, or as I like to say “nonStarbuck” prices, they now have live music once a month, the next music event will be on June 23rd. If you have not yet tried Meg-A-Latte you are missing out. They are located directly across the side street from Taco Johns on the Million Dollar Way.

Thoughts & Comments Hi! My husband and I were in Williston on Memorial Day weekend and we picked up The Williston Trader. It looks great! I like the tone of it. It’s a good balance of articles and ads. I especially like the little just-for-fun things that are sprinkled throughout and the font is easy to read. I like the placement of the article about The Trader. It makes a good introduction but without taking up the front page. The article about Verizon was very useful to us, since we may be moving to Watford City and our cell phone didn’t work in the basin. I just thought I would throw out some comments, since you had asked for feedback. Jennifer Berglund Minneapolis, MN June 5th

Social Media Tips When Job Searching You may have spent hours making sure you are using just the right action verbs in your resume, and crafted the perfect cover letter to catch the attention of your future employer, but if you haven’t spent the time to clean up what’s on your Facebook page, all that work could be for naught. Social media sites allow you to connect and network as you search for a job, but they give you a platform to sell yourself - or shame yourself - to future employers.

have a habit of posting questionable content on your proďŹ les.

Making sure you are buttoned up on your social media sites is as important as drafting a perfect resume and cover letter. It is not uncommon for a prospective employer to go to your Facebook page during the review process. Some employers are asking interviewees to pull up their Facebook pages while in an interview.

• Make connections. LinkedIn is great for connecting with old teachers and other professional contacts. If you had a good relationship with a teacher or former coworker, ask him or her to write a recommendation that you can post on your proďŹ le. Connect with those that you meet at job fairs or industry events.

• Audit all your social media proďŹ les to make sure there aren’t any posts or pictures you wouldn’t want a potential employer to see. Assume guilt by association - delete any offensive posts by your friends and hide them if they

• Demonstrate knowledge of your profession. Reposting interesting articles you come across relating to your ďŹ eld demonstrates knowledge and passion. Use your LinkedIn proďŹ le to share your experience and expertise, and post anything of interest that you may have authored on all your social media proďŹ les.

• Learn about your future employers. Follow companies for which you might eventually like to work so you can build your knowledge base about the company. Following the Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn feeds of companies and professional organizations is also a great way to learn about job openings and you can mention that you learned about the opening through social media to show that you’re adept at using these networks. Theodore Roosevelt National Park “I never would have been President if it had not been for my experiences in North Dakota,” Theodore Roosevelt once remarked. Roosevelt first came to the badlands in September 1883 on a hunting trip. While here he became interested in the cattle business and invested in the Maltese Cross Ranch. He returned the next year and established the Elkhorn Ranch. Whenever he managed to spend time in the badlands, he became more and more alarmed by the damage that was being done to the land and its wildlife. He witnessed the virtual destruction of some big game species, such as bison and bighorn sheep. Overgrazing destroyed the grasslands and with them the habitats for small mammals and songbirds. Conservation increasingly became one of Roosevelt’s major concerns.

home in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. An abundance of native grasses provide sustenance for grazing animals both large and small while the tapestry of different habitats attracts a great number of birds. The terrain of the badlands creates microclimates of warm, dry slopes, relatively cool and wet juniper woodlands, and riverbottoms.

Phillips 66 plans to buy as many as 2,000 railroad tank cars to ship oil from shale ďŹ elds to reďŹ neries, yet another sign that the shale boom is reshaping the U.S. energy industry. Phillips Chairman and CEO Greg Garland discussed the plan, targeted for the next year or two at the Citi Global Energy Conference this week. Oil companies in fast-growing U.S. shale ďŹ elds such as the Bakken, Eagle Ford, Niobrara and Permian have turned to rail, trucks and barges to haul crude because pipeline development has not kept up.

Energy Facts Used oil can be re-reďŹ ned into good-as-new lubricating oil. Oil never wears out it just gets dirty.

Phillips 66, the newly spun-off downstream arm of ConocoPhillips, has reďŹ neries on the East, West and Gulf Coasts, and Garland said the company currently reďŹ nes about 100,000 barrels per day of shale oil but could handle 500,000 bpd. The initial goal is to increase delivery of shale crudes to Phillips reďŹ neries by 100,000 to 150,000 bpd within two years using railroad unit trains, he said. It’s a pipeline on wheels. So, that could go to the Bakken. It could go to the Niobrara. It can shift as the opportunity shifts around the country. Techniques including hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, have given drillers access to vast new deposits of so-called unconventional oil in shale rock formations, helping to reverse a decades-old decline in U.S. crude output. Many analysts say rail will be a bigger part of the oil delivery picture for years because shale wells - often scattered, small and of uncertain lifespan - won’t justify pipeline construction. Garland said the typical unit train would be 100 cars carrying 32,000 gallons (750 barrels) of crude. Using those estimates, 2,000 tankcars would equal about 150,000 barrels.

Margaret McGlynn Makes Music On Her Own Terms Margaret McGlynn splits her time working as an oil company on-site geologist north of Dickinson and as a musician working on music and video projects from her Dickinson home.

McGlynn - her stage name is Mousey McGlynn - works as a on-site geologist or “mudloggerâ€? for an oil company 70 miles north of Dickinson. After living onsite for two to three weeks, she returns to her home in Dickinson for a few weeks, where she works on her music projects in a makeshift recording studio in her brother’s old bedroom. McGlynn described her most recent CD as pop but she has also recorded blues and jazz music. “I really don’t want to conďŹ ne myself because I’m a musician and I love music,â€? she said. “Whatever I feel like singing or enjoy singing is what I’m going to be singing at the time.â€? On Monday, McGlynn will shoot a music video to her electro-pop song “Walked to the Water,â€? from her pop CD “Mousey,â€? at the Broadview Media Center in Minneapolis. She has rented a green screen and anticipates a 10-hour shoot. She hired an animator as well as director of photography, Keith Langsdorf. However, she would be hesitant to sign a label at this stage in her career. McGlynn was born in Ireland and attended an all-girls Catholic boarding

Welcome To

The Black Hills of South Dakota Black Hills Over View

Two weeks ago we started a 10 week showcase of events and tourism information focusing on the Black Hills of South Dakota. We chose this area because it is a short drive from the Bakken and provides an endless amount of entertainment options. So whether you are trying to meet up with your loved ones for a weekend or getting out of town with some buddies for your time off. For the next 7 weeks we will highlight four activities and business each with a different feel, to make it easy for you we have broken the activities into four categories, Accommodations, Family, Nightlife, and Outdoors. We are making a special trips to the area to get interviews and pictures. Please let us know if there is anything you would like us to take a special look at.

Night Life

Prairie Berry Winery - A toast to the Prairie Berry Winery, located near Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse, for offering an amazing escape to rejuvenate and share a memorable experience with your loved one. Cosmopolitan Magazine feels that the “best place to kiss is in the tasting room…after toasting each other with a free glass of vino.” The Vojta family has been in the wine business for 5 generations, beginning their journey in 1876. They offer 15 grape, fruit and honey wines to taste and purchase at their Hill City vineyard. Featuring dry reds, whites, semi-sweet, and sweet fruit wines for complimentary daily tastings from 10 am till 7pm. Looking for a more in depth experience? Enjoy the “Family Table Tastings”. Open to groups of 2-12 people, your private host will seat you at our “Family Table” and guide you through three wines served in varietal specific glasses and individually paired with select foods. Your host will be happy to share tasting tips, plus more information about the featured items, the history of Prairie Berry Winery and the family behind it. Family Table Tastings may be scheduled for any day of the week. Ready to go? Find additional information at their website, www.prairieberry.com, follow them on Twitter, @prairieberry, or Like them on Facebook, we did, www.facebook.com/prairieberrywinery.
