CENTRAL FRINGE School Center
The project, localed in a city fringe, is a multigenerational school, also is partially accessible for the public during the non-teaching period. According to a development plan of the city of Melbourne, this fringe will become a new centre in decades. The position of the site is supposed to against undifferentiated city expansion and maintain the trace and memory of the city fringe and especially the historic railways underneath. The design of school is inspirited from an educational philosophy, Reggio Emilia approach, to give students the freedom to self-manage partial curricular and to build relationships with â€œteachersâ€? , which are faculty members, peers, educational devices including educational building, and any objects within the building.
Under the city expansion, the building is a horizontal block instead of a skyscraper. The setback along the diagonal direction is to maintain the visibility of the railway and MCG.
The pop-up boxes in orange carry multifunctions, that designed in proper scales that 6 to 18 years old children can operate. The specialized function blocks in the ground floor are kind of centres occupying certain fixed space, but the boxes extend those functions into almost every corner of the building. Therefore, studentsâ€™ activities, especially in a casual, small group, are more flexible and have higher chance to happen.
