News 1 Charles Ives He is born in 1874 in Connecticut. His father studied about music in New York and he also led a band during the civil war. Charles Ives credited his father for shaping his musical outlook. George Ives is Charles father. He considered music to be a spiritually precious thing and conveyed his love for his son.

Swing Along It is based on the syncopated rhythms of the cakewalk and of ragtime, celebrates African-American body movement. The number opens with a four-bar intro and a catchy, loose-jointed melody. A brief instrumental transition leads to the next vocal section, but not in strict tempo. The second strain continues the mood of the first.
