Homecoming Homecoming is the return of a group of people usually on a special occasion to a place formerly frequented or regarded as home. It most commonly refers to a tradition in many universities, and colleges. It usually includes activities for students and alumni, such as sports and culture events and a parade through the streets of the city or town. Additionally the term can also refer to being a fundraising method to encourage alumni to give back to their University after graduating. The first homecoming traditions of Savannah State University were first recorded when Miss Elizabeth Wells was crowned Miss Georgia State College the 1938-1939 school year. Miss Elizabeth Wells was a senior Home Ed major. She only had two attendants of Miss Junior and Miss Sophomore. The traditions during that time included Coronation, the crowning of the current queen, the football game, alumni dedication to buildings and giveaways of free yearbooks of the year. -more-
