Emphasis will be placed upon original concept development and the exploration of diverse processes, techniques and methods. (photography, screen printing, xerography…) you will be expected to experiment and explore, thereby expanding on your visualizing skills. Orihon style folding booklet: final format: 4”x 4”, 4cp, high quality print, high quality cardstock paper design front and back

chapter 02

Tell me a memorable experience around water from your life.

When I was four years old, I was playing outside and fell into a pool. I remember drowning and looking up through the water. I couldn’t breath or move. I learned how to swim and I felt very powerful.

What is your relationship to nature?

I wish I can appreciate nature more and be able to live and experience it. I tend to get caught up into the “first world life” but I want to be in nature more.

What is your favorite landscape? Why?

I like anything that is in the wilderness. Somewhere that is unpaved like mountains or deserts.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about ending the cycle. You have to be comfortable at being uncomfortable. I want not be afraid of breaking the routine and put yourself out there.

Who is your favorite writer/ poet/songwriter/ designer? Why?

My favorite poet is Christopher Point Dexter. He is very good at evoking emotions and condemning it into a few lines.

What does flow mean to you?

Flow means not predestined. Flow is a journey, and journey is necessary. Flow is everything and everything is movement of life.

chapter 01

The glowing effect of the moon and stars against the night sky creates a really nice contrast. I would say it draws attention to the moon, which is fitting because it is the destination which the boat is heading towards. Illuminating lights of hope parallels to Michelle’s story. The lack of gradients did not work so well as I did not leave time to test prints multiple colors. In the file, I had 3 different gradients with hues and brightness. In the end, the printer did not pick up the differential in color when printed which results in the final print lacking dimension. I learned how to work in a long horizontal layout and visually telling a story that best fits Michelle without being literally. I learned that everything I put in needs to have a purpose that would help the viewer understand Michelle’s true intention from panel to panel.

Discovering the Relationship Between Design and Human Experience

Brief

Goal

Deliverable

16

Creative work reaches deep into our intuitive and unconscious minds, into our hearts and feelings. The sea change design process helped to define your calling and its embedded meaning. Now you will examine the ways in which this abstract idea can be interpreted and represented in visual form, offering clarity, embedded meaning and understanding to the viewer. Stay away from literal translation and use metaphors and story telling for your design. Emphasis will be placed upon original concept development and the exploration of diverse processes, techniques and methods. you will be expected to experiment and explore, thereby expanding on your visualizing skills. Visualize a highly abstract idea that source from your growing awareness of the deeper aspects of yourself in your own personal voice by exploring design elements, typography and diverse processes: eg. drawing, photography, xerography, abstraction, typography, collage, textures, sculpture, different types of materials: paper, fabric, vellum, cardboard, metal, wood, foil…

chapter 02

I think my color choices works well. Different shades of yellow and orange really “ignite” out of the dark navy background. This furthermore draws attention to the sun, which was my emphasis on the poster. Although the integration of the calendar was a good idea. I thought that from far away, the rays was not as vibrant as I would like. I would like to adjust the lines to be slightly thicker so the yellow lines can really translate well with the sun. Another thing I would change if I had more time was my phoenix illustration. I wish I would dig deeper into making the actual phoenix 3D and color it instead of leaving it empty. I learned how to work with gradients and photoshop to make the fluid 3D image of the sun. I usually only stick with illustrator but I’m glad I got out of my comfort zone to learn a new techniques on illustrator. If I were to done something else with the sun, I think I wouldn’t like the result

chapter 03

I think our whole entire branding was very good. The logo did a good job of speaking about VIRAVITA values as a brand and what we are trying to do. The poster and websites could use a more explorations. Possibly taking our own pictures to get the message across more clearly. The poster could use a better layout that would be eyecatching to pedestrians. I learrned what it is like to work in a design team with real expierences. Communications is a very important part to make sure everyone is clear on what the group is doing.
