Good Start For Clarke Clarke became the first three-time weekly award winner in ECAC Hockey this season among the three awards announced each Monday of the season. Last season, ECAC Hockey featured three goalies that were three-time goalie of the weeks, including Cornell’s Ben Scrivens (four times), Princeton’s Zane Kalemba and St. Lawrence’s Alex Petizian.

ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week Clarke was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season on Monday, Nov. 9. Clarke became the first Quinnipiac goalie to this season to start consecutive games, logging 120 minutes against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Clarke helped Quinnipiac to wins in both games, posting 34 saves against Clarkson and 27 against St. Lawrence to send the Bobcats into a four-way tie for first place in the ECAC Hockey standings with four points. Clarke posted a 2.00 goals-against average while his 61 saves on 65 shots gave him a .938 save percentage. For the year, Clarke is 3-1-0 with a .930 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average. Lampe Makes The Crimson See Red Senior Eric Lampe had a hand in four of Quinnipiac’s five goals in a 5-1 romp of Harvard on Friday, Nov. 13. Lampe had his second career hat trick while also picking up another assist. Mike The Mad Hatter Mike Atkinson became the first Bobcat to record a hat trick this season, scoring three times against Clarkson in a 4-2 win last Friday. Atkinson’s two shorthanded goals in the second and third period, respectively, pushed the Bobcats out in front. Nice Hustle Mook Mike Atkinson became the first Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey player to score two shorthanded goals in a game since Brandon Wong did it against Bentley on Feb. 6, 2007.

Big Night For JMB Senior captain Jean Marc Beaudoin’s three assists against Harvard were a career high for the fourth year forward. Beaudoin entered the game with one goal and one assist for the year. He also added a goal against Dartmouth on Saturday. Jeremy Spoken Freshman Jeremy Langlois scored his first career goal against Harvard on Friday, Nov. 13. Langlois leads all Quinnipiac freshmen scorers with a goal and four assists for five points.

Breaker Breaker 1-9 Scott Zurevinski (#19) totaled two goals and two assists against Robert Morris. Zurevinski, who scored one goal and picked up an assist in each game of the two-game set, ranks among the team leaders with four goals and five assists for nine points. Zurevinski has registered a point in five straight games. Greg The Grinder Senior Greg Holt enjoyed a solid weekend as the Bobcats split a two-game series at Robert Morris last weekend. Holt and Scott Zurevinski tied for the team lead with two goals and two assists apiece. Holt had a goal and assist in each game.

Good Weekend Rook Freshman Zach Davies turned in a pair of solid performances against RMU. Davies picked up his first point of the season in Friday night’s win before scoring his first career goal, and assisting on another, on Saturday night. Gimme Five Four different Bobcats scored their first goal of the season against Robert Morris, including: Brett Dickinson, Greg Holt, Jean-Marc Beaudoin and Yuri Bouharevich. Zach Davies scored his first career goal on the following night.

First Shutout Of The Year Quinnipiac picked up its first shutout of the season with a 5-0 win against Robert Morris on Friday night. A strong back-check and a 20-save performance from freshman Eric Hartzell, who improved to 2-0-0 for his career, in goal helped the QU cause.

Assistant Captains Seniors Brandon Wong and Mike Atkinson will serve as assistant captains for the 2009-10 season, as announced by head coach Rand Pecknold on Monday, Oct. 26. Wong was voted as an assistant just prior to the Bobcats’ series against Ohio State, while Quinnipiac voted Atkinson to wear the “A” just this week. Reese’s Pieces Reese Rolheiser became the first of Quinnipiac’s 13 freshmen to score a goal this season. Rolheiser, who didn’t dress the season opener, scored Quinnipiac’s

ers last year and finished as Quinnipiac’s Division I goals-scored leader. After Leitch and Marshall, Quinnipiac also lost senior captain Dan Henningson, who led the ECAC Hockey’s top power-play unit and was considered one of the top blue-line players in the league. Other losses include Matt Sorteberg, a five-year player and solid defenseman, as well as goalie and fan-favorite Bud Fisher, who showed great prowess come playoff time for the Bobcats.

What’s On Tap For 2009-10 Quinnipiac will play 18 home games this season, featuring an always challenging ECAC Hockey schedule as well as several high-profile non-conference opponents, including Massachusetts, St. Cloud State and Niagara. The season concludes with Senior Night on Saturday, Feb. 27 when the Bobcats host Yale University in the annual “Heroes Hat” game.

Big Class With the loss of proven scorers and solid defensemen, Quinnipiac’s addition of 13 freshmen could only spell “rebuilding”. The Bobcats’ class of 13 freshman is the largest in Quinnipiac Division I history, topping the 2001-02 team that had 12 first-year players. That year’s team, which had just three seniors in its top 10 in scoring, went 20-13-5 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament First Round.

50-50 Club With a goal against Ohio State, Brandon Wong became the 10th player in Quinnipiac’s Division I history, and the 16th player all-time at QU to score 50 goals in a career.

ECAC Hockey Player of the Week Eric Lampe was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week after he totaled three goals and one assist in a two-game sweep of Ohio State on Oct. 8-9. Lampe wasted little time in logging his first multi-goal performance of the year with a pair of markers in Quinnipiac’s regular-season opening win on Thursday. He followed the effort with an assist on Zach Hansen’s game-tying goal before beating Ohio State’s Dustin Carlson for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal in the third period of Quinnipiac’s 4-2 win on Friday. ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week Dan Clarke was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week after an outstanding performance against Ohio State last Friday night. The sophomore goalie stopped a career-best 44 shots against the Buckeyes for his first win of the season. Clarke stopped the first 24 shots he saw, as well as 20 over the final two periods to preserve the win.

Saving His Best For The Best Clarke’s previous career-high came against No. 12 Air Force in last season’s Toyota UConn Hockey Classic championship game when he kicked-away 29 shots-on-goal. Good Grasshopper Clarke’s 44 saves were also the second most at OSU’s Value City Arena, following former Quinnipiac goalie, and current assistant coach, Justin Eddy’s 49-save outing on Jan. 6, 2004. It was the 22nd 40-save game in Quinnipiac’s Division I history, while his 24 saves in the first period were the second most in a period in Quinnipiac’s Division I history. “That’s How It’s Done In The W-B” Freshman Eric Hartzell, from White Bear Lake, Minn., recorded 30 saves in Quinnipiac’s season-opener on Thursday night for his first career victory. Hartzell joined former Bobcat Bud Fisher as the only two players in Quinnipiac’s Division I history to record 30 saves in their first collegiate game.

The Captain Jean-Marc Beaudoin was an assistant captain for his sophomore and junior seasons and will wear the “C” on his chest for his senior campaign. Beaudoin had a career-year in 2008-09, reaching personal highs in goals, assists and points while winning the 7th Player and Coaches Award. Brandon Wong will serve as the team’s assistant captain for its game against UPEI.

Welcome Back Former Quinnipiac standout Justin Eddy returns to Quinnipiac as the Bobcats’ goalie coach for the 2009-10 season. Eddy was the first player in Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey history to sign a professional contract, inking a deal with the Washington Capitals following a successful career that culminated in 2004. Two In The Top 10 Last season, Quinnipiac was one of two teams nationally, along with Minnesota, to have two players (Bryan Leitch and David Marshall) ranked in the Top 10 in scoring nationally. Z-Cut Junior Zach Hansen finished the 2008-09 with the most assists (17) among all ECAC Hockey defensemen. Hansen ranked second in total points (23).

Zurvy Lands On A To Z Quinnipiac University sophomore Scott Zurevinski was featured on Insidecollegehockey.com in their preseason “A To Z” feature, following last year’s selection Dan Henningson. Last season, Zurevinski was also named the team’s Rookie of the Year.

Autism Speaks Fundraiser On Sunday, Oct. 4 the lobby in the TD Bank Sports Center was buzzing with the first event of the 2009-10 season, the Bobcats exhibition game against Prince Edward Island. Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey also coordinated a fundraiser for the charitable organization, Autism Speaks. The Bobcats raised over $10,000 through online donations collected by players and coaches. Donations were also being accepted in the lobby of the building and members of the Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team assisted with the selling of Quinnipiac merchandise with all proceeds going to Autism Speaks. On-site, Quinnipiac collected over $2,500 in donations bringing their total to over $9,000 raised. Following the game, over 120 youth hockey players were invited on the ice as a reward for their part in raising money for Autism Speaks. The players played a series of cross-ice games while being coached by Quinnipiac’s men’s ice hockey players. Moving On The 2009-10 Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey may be weakened by the loss of the 2008-09 NCAA Division I points-scored leader Bryan Leitch. In addition, the Bobcats also lost David Marshall, who ranked among the NCAA lead-

You Gotta Get The Power Play Going Of the Bobcats’ ECAC Hockey-leading 42 power-play goals, Leitch, Marshall and Henningson accounted for 19 of them.

Spread The Wealth Quinnipiac was just one of three teams in ECAC Hockey in 2008-09 with as many as 12 double-digit scorers. This season, the Bobcats will bring back nine of those players. Also returning will be Beaudoin’s linemate, Brandon Wong – one of the most dynamic players in Quinnipiac’s Division I history. Wong scored his 100th career point in just his third year with the Bobcats and averages close to a point per game for his career. Well Done Wong Last year, Brandon Wong returned to the Bobcats lineup after missing 11 games to an injury just in time for Quinnipiac’s ECAC Hockey Tournament First Round series against Colgate. Wong proved to be the difference, scoring the game-winning goals in both of Quinnipiac’s wins to advanced to the Quarterfinals. And Again When Brandon Wong scored his 100th point, he became just the fourth player in Quinnipiac’s Division I history to reach the mark as a junior. He joins an exclusive group comprised of Bryan Leitch, Reid Cashman and Brian Herbert.

Light The Lamp(e) Eric Lampe had a banner year in 2008-09, setting career-highs in goals (14), assists (13) and points (27) in 34 games played.Lampe was second on the team in goals scored while leading the team with two shorthanded goals. Lampe also led the Bobcats in plus/minus (+7). Get Him The Puck Quinnipiac was 9-3-0 in games in which Lampe scored.

College Hockey News Team of the Week The Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team was named the College Hockey News Team of the Week for Dec. 29 - Jan. 3. The weekly award is presented on collegehockeynews.com to the top NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey program and given to Quinnipiac after the Bobcats won four games in six days, including wins against two nationally ranked teams and capturing the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic.

Toyota UConn Hockey Classic Quinnipiac had three players named to the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic AllTournament team after winning the championship. After MVP Bryan Leitch, Eric Lampe scored twice for Quinnipiac while Bryan Leitch assisted on three goals. Dan Clarke made his first career start in net, stopping 29 of 31 shots on goal for his first career victory. All three were named to the All-Tournament team while Leitch was also named MVP after totaling five goals over the Bobcats’ two games. Bobcat Assistants On The National Scene Quinnipiac associate head coach Ben Syer served as the second coach for the East Team at the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Competition, to be held on Friday, April 10 at the Verizon Center in Washington. Quinnipiac senior Bryan Leitch was chosen to compete in the Skills Competition after leading NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey in scoring and assists. RAND PECKNOLD Head Coach 16th season Connecticut College ‘90/’93

As Rand Pecknold begins his 16th season behind the Quinnipiac bench and fifth within ECAC Hockey in 2009–10, the Bobcats will look to move forward within the conference ranks and on the national scene. Since taking over as head coach of the Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team 15 years ago, Rand Pecknold has asserted himself as one of the nation’s best. He has seen plenty of changes, but one constant is a proven track record filled with success and accomplishment, both on the team and individual fronts.

Last season, the Bobcats line-up included the nation’s leading scorer in Bryan Leitch, who also led the nation in assists. It was a first for the Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey program at the Division I level and was also the first time since All-American Reid Cashman word the Bobcats’ sweater that Pecknold coached a player that landed among the nation’s leaders. In addition to Leitch, linemate David Marshall also ranked in the top ten in points scored as well as goals scored as the duo sat in the top two spots on the ECAC Hockey scoring list. Leitch was named to the ECAC Hockey Second Team, become Quinnipiac’s first all-league player since 2006-07. Following a season that saw Quinnipiac finish 18-18-3 in 2008-09, the Bobcats had four players sign professional contracts. Captain Dan Henningson and Marshall signed with the Lake Erie (Pa.) Monsters, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche. In addition, goalie Bud Fisher and defenseman Matt Sorteberg also inked deals with minor league clubs.

In Pecknold’s previous 15 seasons as head coach at Quinnipiac, he accumulated the most wins of any coach in program history and is a two-time finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, given annually to the top Division I college hockey coach. Pecknold guided Quinnipiac to two MAAC regular-season titles, one Atlantic Hockey regular-season title, one MAAC tournament title and the first-ever NCAA berth in program history in 2002. In addition to individual success, the Bobcats won their second consecutive in-season tournament when they knocked off Merrimack and nationallyranked Air Force to win the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic. The Bobcats went on to defeat Harvard and Dartmouth, also nationally ranked at the time, for an impressive four wins in six days. The feat pushed Quinnipiac into the national polls for the first time that year while they were also named the College Hockey News National Team of the Week. Pecknold is currently 232-141-37 (.611) at the Division I level with a combined 281-183-45 (.596) mark at both the Division I and Division II levels. His win total (281) and winning percentage (.596) over the past 15 years rank first all-time at Quinnipiac. Included in that overall mark is an astounding ledger of 159–77–33 in conference play at the Division I level.

The Bobcats are coming off their 13th consecutive non-losing season which includes nine 20-win marks in the past 11 seasons, including four of their last five – all at the Division I level. In addition, Quinnipiac ranks in the top 10 of all NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey programs in wins (232) over their first 11 years (1998-2009) at the Division I level.

The Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey 2007-08 season started off on a high note when the team was ranked in the top 15 by both the USCHO.com/CSTV Division I and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Preseason Polls. The Bobcats became mainstays in the national rankings for most of the season, rising to 10th in both polls while also being featured in College Hockey News’ first NCAA Tournament prediction of the season. January 21, 2008 marked the date for Quinnipiac’s highest ranking all-time

in a national poll. The Bobcats locked down the 10th slot in the InsideCollegeHockey.com poll while also being ranked in the top 15 in the RPI and PairWise Standings.

In addition to their accomplishments in the Blue and Gold, 14 players were ECAC Hockey All-Academic selections, for the second straight season. Captain Jamie Bates was also signed by the Norfolk (Va.) Admirals, the top AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, before then signing with the Springfield (Mass.) Falcons, the top AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. The Bobcats took a strong step forward on the national stage in 2006–07. Quinnipiac was ranked in the top 20 for 18 weeks and reached the finals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament in just its second year in the league. During the league playoffs, the Bobcats recorded three victories against nationally ranked teams—including a two-game series sweep at Cornell’s hostile Lynah Rink. Ultimately, Quinnipiac fell one game shy of reaching the NCAA Tournament, as it was defeated by No. 5 nationally ranked Clarkson in the tournament final.

On the individual front, 14 players earned All-Academic honors from ECAC Hockey. In addition, senior defenseman Reid Cashman was selected as a First-Team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association and signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs following the season. Brandon Wong was tabbed as a Freshman All-American after earning league Co-Rookie of the Year honors. Quinnipiac also posted its 12th straight winning season overall and 10th in a row at the Division I level. Only five Division I schools—Quinnipiac, Michigan, Michigan State, New Hampshire and Maine—have managed to post nine straight winning seasons over that span. Faced with one of the biggest challenges since taking over as head coach of the program, Pecknold made sure that things didn’t skip a beat while joining ECAC Hockey in 2005–06. The Bobcats reached the 20-win plateau for the seventh time in eight seasons, finishing at 20–18–1. For his efforts, Pecknold was named ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year by Insidecollegehockey.com.

Despite winning 15 of its final 18 games in 2004–05 to finish with a 21–13–1 mark and the Atlantic Hockey regular-season title, Quinnipiac finished one victory shy of earning an NCAA Tournament berth, falling in the conference tournament final.

Pecknold was selected as the 2005 Atlantic Hockey Coach of the Year and was tabbed as a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award. Cashman was voted a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top player in college hockey, and earned All-America accolades from two national media outlets. Off the ice, senior goaltender Jamie Holden was named a CoSIDA First-Team District I Academic All-America selection for his performance in the classroom. In 2003–04, Pecknold coached a unit that was decimated by injuries but still managed to achieve a winning record for the eighth straight year at 15–14–6.

During the 2002–03 campaign, Quinnipiac reached the MAAC tournament final for the third consecutive season, but fell one goal short of its second straight NCAA Tournament berth. Nevertheless, the Bobcats did reach the 20win plateau for the fifth straight year, closing with a 22–13–1 mark. The 2001–02 campaign was arguably the most successful of Pecknold’s tenure in Hamden. Despite being picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches’

Then, in the MAAC Tournament, Quinnipiac registered one-goal wins over Iona and Sacred Heart before taking a 6–4 win over Mercyhurst in the title game. As a result, Quinnipiac earned its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament. Pecknold became the winningest coach in program history with his 141st win on March 1, 2002, a 6–2 win over UConn.

In 2000–01, Quinnipiac registered a final mark of 22–11–4. After finishing with a 17–7–2 mark in the regular season, the Bobcats finished one game shy of their first ever NCAA berth, falling to Mercyhurst, 6–5, in the MAAC Hockey League championship game.

Personal An economics major, Pecknold earned his bachelor’s degree in 1990 and added a master’s degree in education in 1993. A native of Bedford, N.H., Pecknold played scholastically at Lawrence Academy in Groton, Mass. Pecknold, his wife, Nikki, son, Tate, and daughters, Cecilia and Georgia currently live in Fairfield, Conn.

Quinnipiac finished the 1999–2000 season with a 27–6–3 final record. The 27 wins broke the school record of 26, which was set in 1998–99.

In its first season in Division I in 1998–99, Quinnipiac set a school record with 26 victories on its way to the inaugural MAAC Hockey League regularseason title.

In 1997–1998, its final Division II campaign, Pecknold guided the Bobcats to a 19–3–1 record. Quinnipiac also set a school record for winning percentage (.848).

Before Quinnipiac Hired at Quinnipiac on May 5, 1994, Pecknold previously served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Connecticut College, for three seasons under head coach and former NHL player Doug Roberts. A standout for the Camels, Pecknold led Connecticut College to the 1990 ECAC South Championship. As a senior, Pecknold set school season records for goals (17) and points (47) by a defenseman. He earned First-Team All-ECAC South honors and a spot on the Division III All-England Team. Playing as a forward in his first three collegiate seasons, he led the Camels in goals as a sophomore (19) and junior (23).
