GEORGETOWN PREP LACROSSE

2010 Spring Lacrosse Program

Letter from the President Rev. William L. George, S.J. Dear Friends of Prep Lacrosse, Welcome to Prep’s twenty third lacrosse season! Under the extraordinary leadership of head coach Kevin Giblin and his amazing staff of dedicated assistant coaches, Prep has established itself as one of the our nation’s premier lacrosse programs. This past decade alone, Prep has won five IAC championships, ranked nationally every year, and has won two national championships. The hard work and dedication of our coaches, players, families, and fans has fostered a contagious winning tradition that epitomizes Georgetown Prep lacrosse. As important as winning championships is, our program has also been fortified with Ignatian Spirituality. Our school, and this program in particular, is focused on forming men of competence, conscience, courage and compassion; men of faith, men for others. Central to Prep’s mission is to prepare our student athletes for college. It brings pride to Prep when we see the quality of universities our lacrosse players attend. Congratulations to all the alumni who achieved so much academically and athletically. On behalf of the Prep community, I extend my thanks and appreciation to all the families, alumni, and friends of Prep lacrosse for their energy and support, as we continue the Ignatian mission of educating our young men in mind, body, and soul. Blessings and Peace,

Rev. William L. George, S.J.

Georgetown Prep Lacrosse Program History Georgetown Prep Lacrosse 1988 - 2010 The Hoya’s 2009 season was a tremendous success by all measures: 20-3 record; IAC Champions; #1 in the Washington Post; #8 nationally; The Washington Post “All-Met player of the year” and five other All-Met selections. But that was just last year’s version of Prep Lacrosse – the continuation of a winning tradition that started over 20 years ago. Georgetown Prep began playing lacrosse in 1988 as part of one of Maryland’s best conferences, the Interstate Athlete Conference, or IAC. In 1988, the IAC consisted of Georgetown Prep, Landon School, St. Alban’s School, Episcopal High School, St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School, The Bullis School, and Sidwell Friends School (Sidwell left the IAC to join the MAC in Year National 1999). Ranking (1) When head coach Kevin Giblin agreed 1993 23 to join the program as head coach in 1999 11 1988, a feeling of confidence began to 2001 11 emerge within the team, the individual 2002 9 players, and throughout the halls of 2003 1 Georgetown Prep. Since those humble beginnings, the Georgetown Prep 2004 11 lacrosse program has gone on to win 2005 25 335 games while losing only 70 (an 2006 1 83% winning clip which results in an 2007 4 average season record of 15-3 for 22 2008 19 years running!). Preeminent industry magazines have repeatedly character2009 8 ized Georgetown Prep as “one of the (1) Inside Lacrosse or LaxPower premier lacrosse programs in the Nation.” Since 1998, Georgetown Prep has ended every season except one ranked among the top 25 teams in the Nation. US Lacrosse Magazine (April 2009) reported that Georgetown Prep was ranked second in the nation with 20 alumni currently on Division 1 rosters of Top 20 ranked teams. Currently there are 33 players on Division 1 Rosters. Over 150 former Prep players have gone on to play at the college level. Since the Washington Post began reporting such statistics, Georgetown Prep lacrosse program has produced six Washington Post All-Met players of the year and over 70 Washington Post All-Met selections.
