Setting The Trend Trend Setter. Thought Leader. Opinion Maker. Forward Thinker. An Innovator. It comes with many names, but the meaning is the same. In every industry, in every company, and in every group of friends and peers, there is always one who stands out from the crowd, yet is very much a part of that crowd. They are the leaders, the ‘movers & shakers’, the ones who are always that one step ahead, without excluding anyone, but rather flattening the path ahead for others to follow. Is this you? It is certainly QNet. While we may have only just moved into our new home, this has been an apt description of your company for the past 12 years. QNet brought together network marketing and e-commerce in a way no one had ever done before. Today, it is common place. For years, we have delivered the mutually available potential for both personal lifestyle satisfaction and simultaneous business achievement. Today, this is the regular goal of most people. Within this issue of aspIRe, we present you some of the ways that your company is continuing to harness the online medium while marrying it with local, on-ground operations in industry-leading initiatives. We hope you enjoy, and more importantly, that you walk with us as we lead the way into the future. Yours in service, Jodi A. Hammond

The Power Of

Reinvention Life In Synergy

ow do you want to be remembered? What will be your life’s legacy?

There is a genuine fear of the process of identity and change in people. When we learn to go beyond this fear, we set ourselves up for something bigger and better and accept the many, many benefits of reinvention. You signed up as a QNet Independent Representative because you had a dream deep in your heart that you wanted to achieve, a dream that you wanted to turn into reality. You had a goal to change your life for the better. You knew that this opportunity would help you recreate your life and your livelihood even after professional and personal setbacks. Robert Kiyosaki, an American businessman and motivational speaker, once said, “If you want to change your life, begin by changing your words. Start speaking the words of your dreams, of who you want to become, not the words of fear and failure.” Indeed, it’s more than a little frightening to be given the keys to go after what you want. To experience its fullness, however, you must have the ability to create synergy between five core areas in your life: Financial upliftment – Commit to resolutions to further improve your financial situation; you are already in the right place as a network marketing professional. Start creating exponential growth by learning how (and actually maximising them) to identify key opportunities in your life and business.

Health & well-being – Live a long and meaningful life of vitality by improving your physical and mental well-being. Education revolution – Education is still the passport to the future. Never stop learning. Help raise the bar of excellence to propel the network marketing industry forward. Environmental justice – Give back by going green. It is the responsibility of every individual to preserve the world’s natural resources. Group syndication – Because ours is a relationship-based business, we need to help create win-win relationships bred by integrity and empathic communication. Our success is measured by the level of trust and openness in our relationships. Lastly, help set RYTHM (‘Raise Yourself To Help Mankind’) in motion. It is one of the greatest steps you will need to take to make your life and business work optimally. Lift up others so that they can accommodate bigger and better things in their lives. We live in a dynamic world where nothing ever remains constant, in a world that keeps reinventing itself. We need to break down and rebuild the perception that we have to live our lives a specific way. Do you want to look back and wonder where your life went, or tell stories of fulfillment instead? You dream, you decide, you act. So, how do you want to be remembered? What will be your life’s work?

“…call it Connection Marketing: CONNECT with the person, CONNECT with their goals, then CONNECT them to valuable information that will help them achieve them. When you help people reach their goals, they will help you with yours.” – Doug Firebaugh, Network Marketing Times

f space is the final frontier for mankind, then cyberspace is – or, more accurately, was – the final frontier for networkers. You and every other member of the QNet family are part of the company who, since 1998, has been conquering this online channel for limitless business expansion of product sales around the world. For 12 years, your family of networkers has turned the world into a supermarket; the human race is your customer. Regardless of whether your prospect becomes a fellow distributor or a retail customer, and no matter where you are and despite where your customers are, this final frontier of cyberspace allows you to diligently serve your market with world-class business innovation through network marketing, e-commerce, and a shopping cart full of unique lifestyle products. Both you and your customers benefit from this seamless integration of product, business model, and online presence. Take, for example, just some of the advanced technologies making your profession boom: your

ever-evolving Virtual Office and eStore; interactive communication channels such as social media and QNet’s new blog; online marketing and business tools such as eBooks, streaming movies, and eLearning training tools; mobile applications and platforms; and your new IR Personal Website, which allows you to embrace Internet marketing on your own terms and to tailor your product offering in the market you choose. But as advanced as these tools may be, and as widespread as their cyberspace environment may allow them to reach, they exist only because you do. Cyberspace may be the final frontier for networkers, but it is what you put in that dictates what you get out of this vast world of potential – it’s a matter of working smart. You see, the promotion of QNet products and the building of your own business enterprise are stepping stones for you to conquer your own frontiers, surpass your own goals, and find true freedom in your life. Choosing the path of least resistance, such as sitting in

your 9-5 comfort zone, will only yield marginal results, no matter how much effort you put in. If you are happy in your comfort zone, then perhaps our new range of consumable and retail products – and the business potential they afford – won’t interest you. Perhaps the idea of selling a consumable product just once, and having that sale repeat itself every month for years to come, is not something that you will find attractive. If you have not set your own frontier to conquer, then maybe the reality of sitting on a beach, trekking through the outback, or sailing the open seas – all while residual income from repeat purchases of consumable goods rolls into your bank account through e-commerce – is not at all motivating. Thinking outside the box and promoting QNet’s new range of consumable lifestyle products will bring new potential to your future and your business. The fact that you can achieve this, with the world as your customer, is real with QNet. It is real today. There is no more final frontier because you have it all at your fingertips. All that exists now is your future and what you decide to do with it.

Ask Not ‘What’ Ask ‘Why’ The Pursuit Of Goals

Pathman Senathirajah Managing Director The V

t’s an all-too-familiar scenario. You have your average 20-something professional going all-out to build his career or his own business. He works tirelessly, 20 hours a day (sometimes more), 7 days a week, at a blistering pace. He lives and works on the fast lane, and you can tell he’s going places. And when you ask him why, his answer typically is: “Because I want to make my millions now and retire at age 40.” Most of us will find such drive and diligence impressive. But guess what – this guy is one of the LAZY ones! Alexander III of Macedon did not become ‘Alexander the Great’ by saying, “I’ll be happy when I conquer Persia.” William Shakespeare did not become a literary master by thinking, “After I write 10 plays and a few poems, I will be ready to retire.” Stephen Spielberg did not get where he is today by declaring, “My name is already synonymous with science fiction, so I don’t need to make any more movies.” If there’s one thing that the world’s greatest achievers have in common, it’s the fact that none of them had a fixed goal; if at all, their only goal was to always HAVE a goal. Thus, whenever they reached a milestone, rather than patting themselves on the back and resting on their laurels, they simply set their sights on the next milestone and immediately began working towards it. Because for such great achievers, what mattered was not whether or not they achieved their goals, but WHY they were pursuing such goals. And whether we are talking about a conqueror from ancient history or a filmmaker from the present time, this ‘why’ remains the same: it is because there’s more to be done. Alexander saw more lands to conquer; Shakespeare knew there was more to write about; Spielberg felt there were more films to make. Ultimately, this is the same spirit that drives the QI family to constantly improve in all aspects. For us, there are always more markets to build, more ways to strengthen the business, more products to offer, and most of all, more lives to touch. This is what RYTHM (Raise Yourself To Help Mankind) is all about – raising ourselves one notch higher in order to change at least one more life for the better. This is why, despite the phenomenal success that our top leaders have achieved, we can still see them working as hard on their business as they did on day one. The great Oscar Schindler, whose role in saving Jews from the Holocaust of World War II is highly celebrated, is known to have exemplified this principle during a particular incident at the end of the war. Having spent his entire fortune ‘buying’ Jews out of slavery from the Nazis, he looked at whatever possessions he had left – his car, the ring on his finger and the clothes on his back – and wept, feeling that those possessions would have been worth a few more Jews. In the end, Oscar Schindler did not focus on what he had achieved and said, “I’ve already saved over 1,000 Jews, so I’ve done enough.” Instead, his mind was on why he did what he did – which was because innocent lives needed to be saved from the evils of the war. And in this context, no achievement is ever enough. In our own pursuit of success in our business, let us not focus on such things as monetary income, material possessions, or even number of Downlines. Fixed and quantifiable goals like these tend to lull us into complacency and derail us from our true mission. Instead, let us keep our focus on WHY the QI family exists in the first place – which is to raise ourselves to help mankind. And in this context, for as long as there are people whose dreams are not realised, then there will always be more for us to do.

What’s In A Name? The Story Behind Your New Home By Jodi A. Hammond & Jesada Siraprapawan

hat is in a brand? What is it about the combination of symbol, colour and name that forms a logo? How is it that branding can instantly conjure people’s imagination to connect the dots of a company’s personality? We asked ourselves these questions, over and over, when we eagerly undertook what we now call the ‘closer to you’ project; leaving behind our old home of QuestNet – building on past achievements, learning from past mistakes – and using that to build the foundations of what would be built into our new home. This was for the sole purpose of being closer to you, our customers, distributors and family members. But it wasn’t easy. The term ‘rebranding’, to many people, would mean a changing of name and logo. But, in fact, QNet had set up a list of improvements, expectations, changes, promises, and a long list of tasks that would affect every single department of the company, to deliver a better and more personal experience for you. Our goal was to make QNet the benchmark of the direct selling industry as an influencer, supported by worldwide

Direct Selling Associations. Our mission – our PASSION – is to ensure we, as a company, operate closer to you in every way: in language, in local offices, in support options, in technologies, in listening to what you want, and in working to deliver it to you. We were not simply undertaking the ‘renovation’ of QuestNet. We knew that this was so much more. QNet was to be an entirely new home for our global family. To ensure that the new name represented our esteemed position in the industry, more than 100 logos were designed and presented to the Board. Meticulous design, detailed attention and research in colour and styles had been put together to convey an image of being a modern, transparent and progressive company. We officially revealed QNet to the world at V-Malaysia 2010… and the feedback we have received has been extremely impressive. At the event, we also hosted a world-class product exhibition area, populated by not only our tried and tested product lines, but also by new and exclusive consumable products. As QNet and as part of our commitment to be closer

At the soft launch of DSCE 2010, held in Putra Jaya by the Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, QNet was awarded a plaque and certificate of appreciation by the Ministry for being a Platinum Sponsor of the event. This event was designed to raise public awareness of the direct selling industry in the country, while highlighting its important role as an engine of growth in the Malaysian New Economic Model. As part of the convention, there was a panel discussion to address the proposed amendments to the Direct Selling Act being read in Parliament. With these amendments, the Direct Selling Act will be officially known as the ‘Direct Sales & Anti-Pyramid Scheme Act, 2010’, tentatively scheduled to come into effect by the third quarter of the year.

Veloci-Ti Pendants Bring Good Results To Russian National Figure Skating Team Members Recently in Russia, a month-long study on the members of the Russian national figure skating team was conducted to confirm the efficiency of the Veloci-Ti pendant that supplies energy to the body for sporting activities. “Analysis of energy parameters of the athletes signifies that the Veloci-Ti pendant has a statistically significant positive effect for the energy condition of the athletes, allowing them to respond to physical loading with high efficiency and high mobilisation of their energy reserves. At the same time, wearing a Veloci-Ti pendant creates overall harmonisation of the athlete. These tendencies have been applied to all members of the team studied. “The results also indicate higher mobilisation of the organism functions after wearing the pendant and hence increased competition readiness of athletes,” said Professor Konstantin G. Korotkov, Deputy Director of Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Physical Culture.

n today’s world of information overload and instant access to news and views from around the world, geographical boundaries and time zones seem to have little relevance. A recent report by Morgan Stanley on Internet trends shows that people today are communicating through social networking sites more than emails. With blogs and online forums gaining more and more prominence as credible sources of information, it has become important for businesses to listen in and apply social media to its marketing strategies. On 28 – 29 July 2010, the city of Kuala Lumpur hosted the Asian Bloggers & Social Media Conference at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, where nearly 500 bloggers and social media enthusiasts gathered to listen to a great lineup of speakers from various digital media.

became the official e-commerce partner of the conference. Some of the key topics discussed included law and ethics in cyberspace; managing a brand’s online reputation; profit-making on the world’s leading blogging platform, Wordpress; the differences between a journalist and a blogger; and the importance of developing social media strategies and objectives for one’s brand before jumping into the social media scene. QNet Executive Chairperson Ms Donna Imson was one of the speakers, on ‘Social Media Conversations: How to Gain Trust and Form Relationships with Your Community’. She pointed out that an important aspect of QNet’s business model depended on the relationships people are able to form within their community. With QNet actively engaging with its customers through various social media channels, it has helped create a community within a community. The keynote address at the conference was delivered by the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, himself a prominent blogger. He gave some thought-provoking ideas on how to stay relevant by using the medium as an engagement tool to develop a relationship with the audience. His message was simple and to the point: ‘Be responsible and always tell the truth’. Other prominent speakers included Dato’ Seri Tony Fernandes of Air Asia; prominent Indian blogger and novelist Amit Varma of India Uncut; popular Malaysian Blogger and Journalist Niki Cheong; and social media specialist Rob Angeles from the Philippines.

Events From V-Malaysia 2010

By QNet Communications Team

he much-awaited event. The days of expectation. The magic of dynamic change. It all happened at V-Malaysia 2010! After months of preparation, the momentous five-day event took place at the indoor sporting arena Putra Stadium, located in National Sports Complex of Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Between 24-28 June 2010, almost 8,000 QNet participants from all over Asia, Middle East, Africa, Australia, the US, the UK and beyond gathered as one for what turned out to be its own United Nations for V-Malaysia 2010!

QNet Managing Director Mr JR Mayer speaks about QNet.

And this year, V-Malaysia was made even more special, with the announcement of an extremely exciting milestone in QNet’s history. QNet Managing Director Mr JR Mayer announced the official launch of our new home, QNet, and welcomed all our family members from all over the world to move into our new home.

A TIME TO LEARN For IRs, this event was all about learning and growing; taking the chance to learn from V-Partners, Associate V-Partners and V-Council members; attending workshops and product training; singing and dancing as one; touching, feeling and sampling QNet products.

NOW, THAT’S A GOOD READ! IRs with Mr Joseph Bismark’s book, The Gem Collection – A Compilation Of Wisdom.

Launched at V-Malaysia 2010 were the latest remarkable published works by QI Group founders Dato’ Vijay Eswaran and Mr Joseph Bismark. The books 18 Stepping Stones, by Dato’ Vijay Eswaran, and The Gem Collection – A Compilation Of Wisdom, by Mr Joseph Bismark, both had excited fan clubs waiting for hours to meet their favourite authors to sign their books and pose for photos at the RYTHM House booth.

SPORTS GALORE! V-Malaysia 2010 featured the very first interactive Sports Sponsorships Booth, allowing visitors to learn all about the company’s sports sponsorships of the AFC Champions League (football) and Team QI-Meritus.Mahara (motorsports), as well as its Product Ambassadors Thongchai Jaidee (golf) and Muttiah Muralidaran (cricket). Not only did informative flyers, videos and visuals bring the Sports Sponsorships Booth to life, but the booth also provided various fun and entertainment activities for IRs, including a very popular foosball table and sports video games available on PlayStation 3 consoles. For active people, a golf putting green was set up, ‘watched’ by a realistic Thongchai Jaidee standee. The actual GP2 racing car and AFC Champions League action images were on display

for snapshot enthusiasts. (For more information on QNet’s sponsorship of the AFC Champions League and related activities, see pages 74-75.) The most incredible moment was the two-hour ‘meet the fans’ session with Muttiah Muralidaran, legendary cricketer and world record holder. Murali was introduced as QNet’s new brand ambassador on stage in the stadium, and conducted a special autograph session at the Sports Sponsorship booth in the Product Exhibition Arena (see pages 42-43 for more information). Excited fans waited in a long queue to get up close and personal with their favourite cricketer, who signed nearly 2,000 autographs, posed for countless pictures, and delighted them with his trademark smile.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF PRODUCTS Among the major highlights of V-Malaysia 2010 was the launch of QNet’s latest products, including Datin Umayal Eswaran’s fine jewellery in the Umayal Collection, the revolutionary French anti-aging skin care solution Physio Radiance, vitality-enhancing juice premix NutriSky, and water purifier HomePure. Plus, new products introduced included the World Pendant and the Pendulum Pendant from our naturally energised jewellery collection, Himalayan Crystal Collection™; and the Amezcua Lifestyle Set soft launch from the harmonised energy product line, Amezcua.

As always, the QNet Product Exhibition Arena displayed all QNet product lines in the beautiful displays and booths, to allow customers and distributors the chance to feel, see, and touch their favourite product before placing an order. Each booth was filled with QNet staff, whom were there to serve, support and answer all questions. IRs were also excited by a variety of interactive features that each product booth offered, such as skin tests, energy testing, product samples, real raw materials, watch maintenance demonstrations, games and prizes.

COMMUNICATIONS IS KEY At last year’s huge V-Malaysia event we experimented with the power of social media tools to provide you with an exciting new way of keeping up with everything that was taking place at the event. This year, we upped the quotient a notch and V-Malaysia 2010 went social in ways you have never seen before! At a special media centre, we set up a news room with four large screens broadcasting live from the heart of V-Malaysia 2010. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube provided a complete virtual experience to those who couldn’t make it this year. And for participants at the venue, our social news room was the best place to catch up on what was happening at multiple locations within the convention, what to expect

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!! With so much going on, we can say that V-Malaysia was again a must-go annual event for all participants, who can now take home momentous experiences to share with their family, friends and network.

next and be able to post their comments and feedback in real time and watch it go live! We also launched the brand new QNet Blog that went live on the screens of the media centre simultaneously as QNet Managing Director JR Mayer announced it on the V-Malaysia stage. The QNet blog is your one stop resource for news, views, announcements, and everything social about QNet. A bumper issue of aspIRe (issue 6 & 7 double V-Con special edition) was given out as a special gift to guests who exchanged their contact information with the QNet Communications Team, and a whole new online experience was available through Global IT, with a new website, mobile platforms and so, so much more!

Behind The Scenes

The Making of V-Malaysia 2010

-Malaysia 2010 isn’t just five days of immense excitement, exhilarating events, and thousands upon thousands of IRs from all over the world, coming together as one. Before the event could even start taking shape, months of effort and dedication went into its creation. The success of such an event on a scale this grand doesn’t rest with just a single person: The V Ambassadors, QNet and The V Corporate Staff, and the InService Brotherhood all shoulder this incredible responsibility, orchestrating the event and dealing with any obstacles along the way. From venue selection to stage design, logistics, marketing materials, construction, scheduling of activities, approval, and innumerable other tasks, they make up the backbone of the event, both in the stadium and in the Product Exhibition Arena. The entire team comes together through months of effort and planning to create this incredible event that serves as a learning experience, a networking opportunity, and a platform for the launch of new and exclusive products and activities. The immense dedication of all these unsung heroes comes together for a single purpose: to provide our customers and distributors with everything they need to enhance their business, and to be there beside them along every step of their journey towards professional and personal success.

V-Malaysia 2010

A Glimpse Of Our Emerging World Chris & Josephine Gross, PhD Co-founders of Networking Times

After 15 consecutive years of attending and participating in conventions worldwide, we thought we had experienced just about the entire gamut of company cultures, extravagant displays, and spellbound openings. This past June, we discovered quite the opposite: there is nothing that could have prepared us for the impact of experiencing V-Malaysia, starting with its opening sessions… What can only be described as ‘organised chaos’ begins each day at precisely the appointed time. After hours of queuing up, a rapid and steady stream of eager QNet IRs flows through the doors and quickly seek out their premeditated places throughout the stadium floor and balconies. Several hundred top leaders have vied for a chance to be ‘In Service’ during the entire convention. Right now, they are sprinkled here, there, and everywhere to help the competing IRs follow the customs and rules for locating their teammates and compatriots in the prime real estate throughout the expansive stadium. All the while, music from around the world blares out in a syncopated beat, while flags as big as tennis courts are unfurled and somehow seem to dance to the music. Smaller flags on poles are waving back and forth, signalling the location of this team or that country. Everyone – from Muslims cloaked in black to ‘Unstoppable’ placard-bearing IRs in matching tee-shirts – is dancing and parading in a conga line weaving through the aisles. An occasional vuvuzela momentarily splits the music in two.

In short order, thousands of individuals from 60 countries have secured their spots on the stadium. By now, new music accompanied by triple floor-to-ceiling video displays announce the theme of the event: ‘We Are One!’, and the dancing and singing seek a higher and louder crescendo. It’s amazing what can be created when cooperation is the underlying principle of a large gathering of people. Sure, teams compete for the best seats, yet harmony prevails, and when the session is over, each group cedes its place. The opening of the next session starts just like the others. New groups, without hostility, enjoy those most desirable places. What a shining example, albeit on a small scale, of how our world could operate, when cooperation precedes competition as the foundation for human interaction, commerce and cultural celebration. Nothing prepares us better for our emerging world than V- Malaysia 2010… except, perhaps, V- Malaysia 2011!

V Council Member Mike Trinidad On VITAL CODE™ By Josephene M. Mendoza

hey say any experiment starts with the determination to demonstrate a known truth, examine the validity of a theory, or establish the efficacy of something previously untried. For distributor and V Council Member Michael ‘Mike’ Trinidad, research or experiments encompass all of the above, and beyond. In a recent trip to the United States to visit his network in New York, Mr Trinidad paid a visit to Grow Company in neighbouring New Jersey – the same company founded by Hungarian pharmacist, researcher and VITAL CODE™ developer, Andrew ‘Andy’ Szalay in 1977 – and embarked on a radical, life-changing journey. As a V Council Member with ten years of hard-earned feathers tucked into his cap, Mr Trinidad had been privy to many of the meetings in Qplus, QNet’s localised affiliate in the Philippines. These meetings often dealt with the popularity of VITAL CODE™, an innovative multivitamin developed to provide nutrients in their raw food created form. For his trip to Grow Company, he was excited about the opportunity to validate the knowledge he had culled from these meetings with the researchers who discovered the science behind VITAL CODE™ themselves. His interest in satisfying his beliefs came not only from his desire to have the most updated, correct information as a distributor, but also because he is a student of science, having taken up a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology during his college years.

On his special appointment to the Grow Company compound in the United States, Mr Trinidad’s interest was nourished fully as he participated in a grand plant tour, engaged in a dynamic discussion with VITAL CODE™ book author Dr Massoud Arvanaghi, and met the 90-year old nutritional ideologist Andy Szalay himself. “It was very much like being immersed in a learning zone,” he said, adding, “I have a deeper understanding of the vitamin industry and an even better appreciation for VITAL CODE™ as an innovative product. The whole experience was such a confidence booster. I’ll be able to better communicate the VITAL CODE™ story to fellow distributors, prospects and more importantly, my friends and loved ones. “VITAL CODE™ is not only a unique product, but it is ‘THE product’, the only true vitamin supplement that really matters. In general, other products in the market are not readily absorbed by the body. VITAL CODE™, on the other hand, is fully utilised by our bodies and retained even up to 24 hours. My wife and I have been using VITAL CODE™ for more than half a year now and there is indeed a noticeable increase in vigour and energy from taking this multivitamin. So far, it’s been an enriching experience. “I don’t leave my beliefs to chance. It’s about being a student and gathering as much information as I can so that, in

“Our Wonderful Journey With QNet” VC Naamratha & VC Shashibhushan Pandey India

uring V-Malaysia 2010, the aspIRe team had a chance to catch up with some Independent Representatives who shared with us their personal success stories as well as their favourite QNet products. Here, we bring you some of those interesting stories!

happened, because we earned over USD 2,500 from QNet that month! It made me wonder how we ever thought the job or profession we were doing was secure.

“Our journey with QNet began in 2003. At first we weren’t taking the business seriously, so it took us four months to earn our first commission cheque. Later, we earned a commission every month, every two weeks, and finally every week. Ten months after joining QNet, my boss informed me that my department was closing and asked me to resign. I decided to focus only on our QNet business right away. It was one of the best things that could have

“QNet has made a positive difference in our lives in terms of opportunity. I never thought I’d come this far. I came from a very humble background, but had an opportunity to study in one of the most well-known colleges in Mumbai. I decided not to study abroad afterwards, as I didn’t want to put a financial burden on my family. However, after joining QNet, I’ve had the chance to travel once every two months! My passport, once empty for years, is now filled with lots of stamps from many countries in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. We even fly first class sometimes. Our lives are different now!

“My favourite QNet products are the Amezcua Bio Disc and Chi Pendant. As a biomedical engineer, at first it was very difficult for me to accept their benefits, as I know about biomedical instrumentation and its effects on the human body. Since I started using those products, I came to realise how truly amazing they are. “This is our seventh year in this business, but it seems like only seven months have gone by. We look forward to the next seven years, experiencing more challenges and growth in the business. The best thing about this business is that we can take ownership and full responsibility for our success. In addition, network marketing is more about how to care for others. While building our business, we’ve also built relationships, and today we have an extended family in our network!”

“QNet Is More Than Just A Business” Dr Abdul Aziz Bin Shams Bahrain “I joined this business because of my son, who is also my Upline. Now my entire family, including my wife and all my children, are with QNet. I was so inspired by Mr Pathman Senathirajah’s presentation in Bahrain a few years ago. He gave a very nice speech!

but to help others. I normally look after my Downlines as if they were my own newborn babies. I teach them from their first day until they reach their dreams. That’s a big responsibility, as they have to know all the basic information about the business.

“I’m a dentist and I have my own clinic. I joined this business not for money

“Regarding the products, there’s a high demand for Bernhard H. Mayer®

watches in the Middle East. The Amezcua Bio Disc and the holiday packages from QVI Club are also very popular. For me, I’m using the Amezcua Bio Disc at my clinic to enhance the quality of the water.”

“QNet Transformed My Life” Hana Abdulhafiz Eritrea “QNet really transformed me into another person. I’ve had opportunities to interact with more people. I’ve become more confident and believe that I have the power to do something for my future. I have a lot of dreams to achieve, and I’m definitely going to make it very soon. I want to let the world know all

about my country, Eritrea. Before this, people often asked me where my country was. Hopefully, next time when I tell people that I come from Eritrea, they will know exactly where it is. “I use In-Voice to keep connected with my sister and other people in

different parts of the world. It gives me good value for money, as I can make inexpensive calls. I also bought the Amezcua Bio Disc for my mom, who feels more healthy after using it. Thank you QNet and The V!”

Israa Garatli Saudi Arabia

“QNet changed my life – not just financially, but also personally, professionally and socially. I’m so proud to be part of this fabulous family. This was my first time at V-Con, and I plan to attend this event every year for the rest of my life. I cannot describe the joy I experienced with RYTHM. Thanks QNet for giving me an opportunity to raise other people’s lives.”

Ashish Dan Dona India

“I’ve been a member of QVI Club for two years and I really love it. It is the best option for those who are looking for long-term vacation plans. It offers a wide selection of vacation products and is also great value for money. One of the QVI home resorts I have been to is Cliff Top Club, India. It’s a very good resort and a nice place to visit.”

Tumelo Mmamokgethi Botswana

“QNet helped me improve my personality. Before, I was very shy and couldn’t make a presentation even in front of just one person. Now I can speak comfortably in front of a public audience. For my favourite product, I love the Amezcua Bio Disc. I feel more healthy and energetic after using it. Thanks QNet!”

Local Service Is Essential For Global Business Head Of Business Development Mr Kevin Lim On Attracting New Customers & Penetrating Existing Markets By Srisumeth Rittipairoj

Net’s success would not be possible without vibrant and dynamic IRs, as well as the outstanding dedication of QNet employees. One of those is Head of Business Development Mr Kevin Lim. Mr Lim joined the QI Group of Companies in 2007 as the head of its logistics company, QuEX Courier. He successfully improved the logistics in a major way, despite numerous challenges. In September 2009, he was promoted to support the company with a new position and new challenges, as Head of Business Development. Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities Currently, the QNet Business Development team enables a market by providing the right infrastructure in terms of operations, administration, legal, as well as marketing and communication support. However, building a new market is not that easy. The team has to find a solution for different situations in each country. “As Head of Business Development, I look forward to new opportunities,” Mr. Lim said. “Our current team has faced a lot of challenges, which sometimes happen unexpectedly. But as far as those challenges go, they are good to have. The main issue we have to consider is that our market activity is booming in many countries, because QNet has expanded rapidly. We are catching up in terms of resources to support the business in various countries,” he further explained.

Working As A Team The role of the Business Development department is not only to find potential bid opportunities, but also to gather intelligence about the customer and the competition that will be crucial to taking full advantage of any existing opportunity. However, the Business Development team is not working in isolation. “Our work requires close cooperation with the Regional Directors and The V, including the VPs, AVPs and VCs. In addition to this, the NSG, QNet operations, Logistics, IT, Finance & Accounting, Legal, Communications, Marketing, Human Resources, and Administration departments all have integral parts to play in tackling the issues in countries where we do not have an office presence,” Mr Lim said. According to Mr Lim, in addition to helping resolve the challenges the company encounters in many countries and developing a business plan for each region, the key to success is to have good resources. “Now we have four Business Development Managers, including Batyr Komurzoev and Egor Midruev, who are taking care of the Russian and Central Asian regions, and Trevor Kuna and myself, who now focus on looking for new markets in other countries. We also have great supporting teams who work in many countries, including Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, and Turkey.

“The Business Development team strives to create a business-friendly environment to assist IRs in growing their QNet business, while supporting the work done by being on the ground to listen to IRs. We also emphasise the importance of adhering to the QNet Policies & Procedures and direct IRs to the wealth of business support available in local languages, both online and offline.” The Company You Can Trust “QNet is a place where you can achieve your dreams. Our strategy is to work as a big family, so we try very hard to provide better service, business infrastructure, technology, and a varied range of products to help IRs succeed and reach their goals. My job is to find potential bid opportunities, which is done by gathering crucial intelligence about the customer, the opportunity, and the competition. Besides this, QNet has laid a strong foundation in philanthropic activities, with a mission to build opportunities and care for those in need through RYTHM Foundation, whose mission is ‘Raise Yourself To Help Mankind’. We not only work for ourselves, but also think about others. This is why QNet is a company that you can trust,” Mr Lim said. Plans For Continuing Success “As an international company, QNet provides a strong foundation to support itself globally by implementing

localisation strategies. Now we are focussing more on acting locally to build closer relationships with our IRs and to provide them with the best support we can. Our localisation team knows the requirements to develop the business and helps provide the support we need. For our long-term plans, we will step up from micro to macro regionalisation plans. This ambitious step means it is necessary for our management team to give support to the whole region. It requires the development of local support teams staffed by local people, able to understand the unique needs of IRs in each region. We then would truly be a company with a global reach but a local presence.” Secret Of The Achievement According to Mr Lim, for QNet to achieve success in the world of business necessitates forward thinking, as well as the agility and vision to adapt quickly. “I always focus on the work process, not the outcome. I believe that results will prove if the method is right. The principles I always keep in my mind include having a cool head and remaining calm; analysing a situation objectively; possessing a warm heart; giving help; having a firm hand and quick feet; following up; moving fast; and never being left behind. These principles help me succeed in business development work.”

A Brief Chat With Mr Trevor Kuna, QNet Business Development Manager

Mr Trevor Kuna (left) in Kazakhstan with QNet agent Mr Fizuli Takhmazov (centre) and QNet IR Kuanysh Armiyanov (right).

Originally from Canada, Mr Trevor Kuna has a strong educational and experiential background in marketing and advertising. Prior to QNet, he had worked in many companies, both in the private and public sectors, with different natures and environments. Then, he realised that he wanted to pursue something missing in his life and decided to leave Canada to expand his horizons and challenge his way of thinking. Since the beginning of 2008, he has been part of QNet and is currently on Mr Kevin Lim’s team as a QNet Business Development Manager. Why did you decide to join QNet? Joining QNet was an interesting ride. I came to this side of the world for a challenge and to gain more work and life experience. To me, QNet is proving to be the right decision as I’m constantly presented with an opportunity to challenge myself. This company is truly one of a kind and I understand why it continues to thrive.

Not only is it because of our Independent Representatives, but also because of the corporate staff. Both share the same vision to raise themselves to help others. Could you describe briefly the day-to-day job as a Business Development Manager at QNet? Constant travel, conference calls, and meetings. The Business Development responsibilities have brought me to a large number of QNet markets such as Africa, Central Asia and Middle East. We look after the needs of the IRs, listen to and implement their requirements, evaluate how the company is serving them, and identify areas where the company can improve. In order to receive first-hand information and feedback when we visit our markets, we have to work closely with other departments such as legal, product development, promotions, and logistics. We also look at maintaining our established relationships

with our agents in various markets as well as identify opportunities to build future relationships in emerging markets. At the end of the day, our job is to support and enable QNet IRs to do what they can do the best. What is your opinion about Mr Lim? I think Kevin is an incredible asset as Head of Business Development. Since he made the move from QuEX Courier in the middle of 2009, he has provided a way of thinking which is different from mine, and as such, serves as a balance. There are times when I would go to him with a problem, to which he would present the situation in a different light and ultimately reveal a solution I never thought of. He gives me room to be resourceful in solving problems, yet will step in whenever he feels I need guidance. I recognise that he is under an extreme amount of pressure given the fact that our markets are continuing to grow at an exponential rate, and I do the best I can to support him.

uttiah uralidaran QNet Brand Ambassador Extraordinaire By Ramya Chandrasekaran Ramya Chandrasekaran – QI’s Media and Communications manager based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – was born and raised in India, a country where cricket is the national pastime. A life-long cricket fan, she found herself a complete oddity in a football-obsessed nation when she moved to Malaysia five years ago. When the opportunity arose to sign cricketing legend Muttiah Muralidaran as QNet’s Brand Ambassador, she was the obvious choice to spearhead the project and be the liaison for QNet with Murali. Here, we bring you this piece on QNet’s newest Brand Ambassador, by one of his most ardent fans and QNet’s resident cricket expert!

s a true-blue Indian from the motherland, cricket has always been an integral part of my life. From kids playing street cricket in narrow alleys, old men hunched over a transistor radio in the park listening to live commentaries, grown men fighting over match tactics in the workplace, to cricketing heroes selling you everything from washing machines to four wheel drives on television and newspapers filled with exploits of the players on and off the field…cricket is everywhere. I come from a family of cricket fanatics. All my friends are crazy about cricket and during major matches our living room would turn into a riot of cheers or jeers! In India, cricket is a way of life – a religion that binds and transforms a nation of a billion into a single community. From this background, I watched a young Sri Lankan Tamil bowler, Muttiah Muralidaran, take centre stage in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia in 1995. Umpire Darrell Hair called Murali for ‘chucking’, an illegal bowling action, seven times in the space of three overs! Ten days later, Sri Lanka played the West Indies in the triangular World Series in Brisbane. Umpire Ross Emerson, officiating in his debut international match, ‘no-balled’ (a penalty for an illegal delivery by the bowler) Murali three times in his first over, twice in his second, and twice in his third! The young bowler had to learn – with the eyes of the world on him – how to cope with the tactics of intimidation through victimisation, and of injustice on a scale unheard of before. Subsequent biomechanical tests cleared him of the illegal bowling action. But that tour of Australia made Murali into the person we know today. The trial by fire stiffened his mind and his cricketing spine to where it has remained impregnable ever since. A few months later, Sri Lanka fed off its sense of injustice meted out to Murali to script one of the greatest success stories in contemporary cricket: victory in the 1996 Cricket World Cup. Fast forward 15 years and today you have Muttiah Muralidaran, a world-class bowler with a number of world

records to his name. These records include the highest number of wickets taken in both One Day International and Test matches; the most ‘Man of the Series’ awards in Test cricket; the only player to take 50 or more wickets against every Test-playing nation; and the highest number of international wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20s combined, to name a few. His most recent triumph is the famed 800th wicket in the first Test against India at Galle, Sri Lanka, which marked the end of his Test cricket career on the highest note possible. Murali’s 800th wicket isn’t just a statistical milestone, but the ultimate testimony of a career that typified a triumph of cricketing greatness. It is a fitting tribute to a man whose career symbolised an incredible triumph of character against often insurmountable odds. Murali’s commitment to his game, his focus on his goals, resilience in the face of challenges, integrity, and the ability to smile even in the face of adversity are the traits that inspired QNet to seek him out as our Brand Ambassador. It is this same high standard of commitment on-field that he brings to his commitments off the field. To millions of QNet IRs, he is now one of us, a part of the QNet family. He uses the Amezcua Bio Disc to energise his water, wears the Veloci-Ti pendant while playing cricket to give him an innate sense of balance and to enhance his physical prowess, uses a Bernhard H. Mayer® watch to tell time and as a fashion accessory at formal events commemorating his achievements, and takes advantage of his QVI Club membership to take his family on holidays! Murali, the consummate sportsman and gentleman, is QNet’s Brand Ambassador and we are proud to welcome Murali into the QNet family – a man who has bowled his way into immortality, a sporting hero to millions, a man with a smile as wide as the outdoors, and a true legend of our time.

hen we think of the Bernhard H. Mayer® brand, magnificent timepieces and a renowned manufacturer of Swiss watches come to mind. It is, therefore, quite surprising to find that when the business started, watches were not yet part of the scenario. They were brought into the company later by the hobby and passion of its founder, Mr Bernhard H. Mayer. Having founded his mint in the German town of Pforzheim in 1871, Mr Mayer was manufacturing and selling dies (tools for minting coins). Later, Mayer Mint became a key player in the numismatic field, producing collectible coins valued all over the world.

Mr Bernhard H. Mayer continues the legacy of his great grandfather, the founder of Mayer Mint.

Mr Mayer had a hobby of engraving covers of pocket watches, which were indispensable accessories in the 19th Century. At that time, an embossed or engraved cover of a quality pocket watch was a significant fashion and reputation statement: displaying the taste of the owner with engraved artistic scenery, his heritage with his family’s coat of arms, and his wealth with a golden watch and cover case. This hobby became the stepping stone to how passion, style and newly-found traditions laid the foundation for Bernhard H. Mayer® watches. As time went by, watches became strongly associated with the Mayer family business. So when the company acquired a watch production facility in Switzerland, it was just a matter of time before it became a genuine manufacturer of Swiss watches. Here, we sit down with Mr Bernhard H. Mayer, whose great grandfather founded Mayer Mint almost 140 years ago, to talk about Swiss watches, passion for tradition, and new developments.

A Passion ForTradition & Quality

An Interview With Mr Bernhard H. Mayer By Sofia Mashovets

When one talks about Swiss watches, quality and observing traditions are assumed. But since we can say that for you, watch production ‘runs in the family’, what is a watch for you? An accessory, a story to tell, a piece of art? A watch to me is a statement, expressing one’s taste and style. It is a story or conversation piece and sometimes a work of art, especially for the more elaborate ones. A fine

One of many moments in Mayer Mint history.

Swiss watch – much like a sophisticated car or a prestigious house – can be a way to express wealth. During my grandfather’s and father’s time, a watch was just a useful accessory. But now, with time being told by mobile phones and other devices, the mere ability to show time has grown less important.

Are there any family legends you could share with us? I remember my grandfather wearing beautiful gold pocket watches with lovely engravings on their covers. Some of them even had miniature enamel

paintings. Those were true pieces of art done by artisans in Geneva, Paris, and Pforzheim (my home town). One of them even had a clockwork mechanism, with a tiny bell sounding every hour. When I was a child, this particular pocket watch fascinated me most.

Have there been any significant changes for the Bernhard H. Mayer® brand since watches became Swiss made? Today, the factory in Germany focusses on minting coins and medals, while all

watch activities are concentrated in Switzerland at Cimier AG, which the QI Group acquired about four years ago. However, our coin and watch productions are all in one family, united by the spirit of tradition and craftsmanship. Acquiring the production in Switzerland was a natural step in our development, bringing our passion for high quality watches to a new level.

When can a watch be called ‘Swiss Made’? The use of the label ‘Swiss Made’ for watches is regulated by European law. According to it, a ‘Swiss Made’ timepiece is one that has been assembled, adjusted and subjected to official tests in Switzerland. In addition, at least 50 per cent of the components of the movement should be manufactured in Switzerland. According to Swiss law, a watch is considered Swiss if its movement is made and cased up in Switzerland. The law also requires manufacturers to carry out the final inspection of all watches in Switzerland.

There is a stereotype that a truly Swiss made watch cannot be quartz, that if there is a battery, there is no high-quality mechanism. How true is this statement? As for hand-wound and

battery-powered watches, can they be discussed in terms of ‘better’ or ‘worse’? Battery-powered watches are quartz watches. One can say that all inexpensive watches are quartz, which has made the image of the quartz watch suffer a bit, but I want to emphasise that there are some beautiful and absolutely great quartz watches around. The hand winding and automatic movements are more complicated in terms of movement, so they are considered more valuable. But in a ladies’ watch, it is difficult to have a mechanical movement due to the small size, so some of our fine ladies’ watches are quartz. A quartz watch can be absolutely beautiful and of fine quality. It is true that hardcore watch aficionados want nothing but mechanical watches, either hand-wound or automatic. However, we take production of all our watches seriously, whether they are mechanical, automatic or quartz. The same production and quality standards are applied to all of them, and all are truly Swiss in terms of their parts, movement, quality of materials, and assembly.

Do you believe that watches are image-making accessories? How much can a watch influence the impression a person makes? Yes, I believe a watch affects a person’s image, much like a fine car or a lovely

dress, or another fine accessory such as a beautiful handbag. But at the same time, it is also an investment, often passed down from generation to generation and considered an heirloom.

How many watches do you personally have? Which is your favourite, and why? I own a large collection of watches, and most of them were made by our Swiss watch company. My long-time favourite watch has been the Force Watch. This is why I am delighted with the new version of this watch, the Force Ultimate, which has a modern sporty design and uses Amezcua energy force technology. Isn’t it great that when you wear a Swiss watch, you are also receiving benefits similar to an Amezcua product? The Force Ultimate watch has been the latest addition to my personal watch collection. I truly enjoy its design and qualities, and I hope that many people will share my passion for this stylish timepiece.

Professional Business Conduct

Building Your Business With A Conscience By Vidya Madhavan

pioneer in the multilevel marketing (MLM) industry, Co-Founder of the Direct Selling Association of Singapore (DSAS) Mr Benjamin Tan had a pivotal role in opening the doors for all legitimate MLM companies in Singapore, including QNet, after authorities sanctioned a strict rule that banned even legitimate MLM-based companies from operating within the country. Mr Tan, who was a guest speaker at the recent V-Malaysia 2010, spoke about the importance of professional business conduct in managing the key challenges within what he deems is the fastest moving industry in the world.

An Industry Pioneer When Mr Benjamin Tan joined the workforce as a young graduate in the early 1970s, he found himself very optimistic about the potential of the direct selling industry, as it offered ordinary people a chance to improve the quality of their lives, while giving them an opportunity to earn a secondary income to supplement their family needs. Unfortunately, as an aftermath of the Holiday Magic debacle, a pyramid selling scheme operated by a US-based company in Singapore which had people investing large sums in cosmetic products that they could not resell, the Singapore authorities passed a very strict legislation – one of the strictest in the world at the time – called the Multilevel Marketing & Pyramid Selling (Prohibition) Act of 1973. This law affected even legitimate MLM-based companies, forcing them to shut down. Fuelled by a strong conviction and belief in the industry’s ability to contribute to the growth of individuals and the nation, Mr Tan joined arms with a few senior members of various reputable and legitimate direct selling companies to

form the Direct Selling Association of Singapore (DSAS), gazetted on 8 October 1976. “The DSAS is a trade association formed mainly to self-regulate rules, code of ethics and conduct, and set the standards for ethical direct selling in Singapore. We work closely with government bodies and consumer groups to foster favourable public relations that will help meet the collective needs of our member companies,” Mr Tan said. Having held many distinguished roles within the DSAS including Chairman from 1998 to 2004, he was later invited to be part of the esteemed committee involved in forming the Multilevel Marketing & Pyramid Selling (Excluded Schemes and Arrangements) Amendment Order of 2001, which now enables all legitimate MLM companies to operate confidently in Singapore.

The QNet Advisory Board Mr Tan was invited to be an official member of the QNet Advisory Board in November 2009, after the company was officially accepted as a member of the DSAS. He summed up his role very simply: “I am here mainly to advise, guide and assist QNet in matters pertaining to the direct selling industry, particularly in areas of marketing compliance and best business practices. You might say that I am someone who acts as ‘the conscience of the business’ relating to IRs in the marketplace, as well as the code of ethics and conduct.”

Professional Customer Service & Conduct There are many fraudulent schemes out there that masquerade as genuine MLM opportunities and this often puts QNet in the face of adversity, as the company’s identity is mistaken for yet another scam and ends up misrepresented in the media. “QNet has been very highly misunderstood. We must unite to turn around the negative perception of the company,” Mr Tan added, being one of the prominent guest speakers at V-Malaysia 2010. In recapping some key points from his speech, he said, “The most effective way to combat any potentially negative media report is by cultivating professional consumer service and conduct in the business. My advice to IRs is to observe the all-important law of human conduct: ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’. Never take advantage of a consumer, because if you do, you can sell to them only once. It becomes a short-term gain, but a long-term loss. This kind of unethical business conduct becomes a liability. IRs are QNet ambassadors. Whatever they say and do out there reflects QNet; hence, it is crucial that they conduct themselves professionally and ethically in the marketplace. If the company gets a bad name, this will affect them directly. They need to be mindful of this. A company is as good as its people.”

The Social Media

Bandwagon Is There Hope In The Hype? By Ramya Chandrasekaran

veryone is talking about blogging, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. You might have heard people referring to these online platforms as social media sites. Many of you are probably active users of these sites for social networking and use them to keep in touch with your friends, to share photos, videos and other information with your network. However, despite the growing number of platforms available on the Internet that fall into the category of social media, it can sometimes be difficult to answer the fundamental question: “What is social media?”

Social Interaction Social media is designed to be disseminated through social interaction. These days, it impacts our lives, both from a personal and business perspective. Think of regular media as a one-way street where you can read a newspaper or listen to a report on television, but you have very limited ability to provide your views or input on the matter. Social media, on the other hand, is a two-way street that gives you the ability to communicate. To put it simply, any website that invites you to interact with the site and with other users falls into the definition of social media.

Here are some examples: • Social Bookmarking (, Blinklist, Simpy) – Interact by tagging websites and searching through websites bookmarked by other people. • Social News (Digg, Technocrati, Reddit) – Interact by voting for articles and commenting on them. • Social Networking (Facebook, MySpace, Multiply) – Interact by adding friends, commenting on profiles, joining groups, and having discussions. • Social Photo and Video Sharing (YouTube, Flickr) – Interact by sharing photos or videos and commenting on user submissions. • Wikis (Wikipedia, Wikia) – Interact by adding articles and editing existing articles.

What are the factors that clearly distinguish social media from traditional media? • Social media content can be reached by everyone. Generally, content is produced in order to contribute to a dialogue – readers and other social media authors are encouraged to add to the discussion by commenting on or responding to published content. • Social media can be written by anyone. Because of the recent availability of free or low-cost publishing tools, virtually anyone can now author, share, comment on, and access information.

The Growing Influence Of Social Media Over the last few years, the size and influence of social media has grown exponentially. According to a study by Universal McCann, over 346 million people (or 77 per cent of all active Internet users) now look to blogs – in addition to traditional media sources – for news, information, and entertainment.1 While the audience for some blogs and forums may be small, social media sites are not only influencing consumers and investors directly, but also traditional mainstream media sources that have the power to broadcast stories to even larger audiences. According to a recent survey, 75 per cent of journalists reported that they use social media sources to research stories, which indicates an increase of 8 per cent from the previous year.2 The year 2009 has definitely been the year of social media. Once, Twitter was a place where you could read about someone else’s cat. Now, it’s the first place you go to for breaking news. Sites like Digg, Reddit, and Facebook can now leave a huge impact on the real world; lives are changed and important questions are asked (and answered) there. Many milestones have been reached and the growth of nearly every aspect of social media continues to be enormous.

The Social Media

If it were a country, it would be the size of the European Union!4 • MySpace, the social network that used to break records like these, is now lagging behind Facebook; according to reports as of January 2010, Facebook received a total of 134 million unique visitors versus MySpace’s 70 million, making Facebook the no. 2 site behind Google. • Twitter itself is growing at a crazy rate; although it already has a very large audience, it grew 76.8 per cent just from February to March 2009. According to Twitter COO Dick Costolo at the Conversational Media Summit in June 2010, Twitter now has 190 million users tweeting 65 million times a day!5 • According to Morgan Stanley’s April 2010 Internet Trends report, social networking is now more popular than email.6

Impact Of Social Media On Brands Given social media’s growing influence, companies should keep a careful eye on their online profile. A November 2008 survey by Technorati, a leading blog search engine, found that four out of five bloggers reported posting brand or product reviews, 37 per cent of them frequently.7

As a result, corporate communications professionals now have to contend with millions of new voices with the power to discuss, review, and spread information about brands or products. To counter or prevent the spread of negative messages in the cyber world and to boost brand awareness, many corporations have begun embracing social media as a vital tool for online reputation management. As reported by Mashable, the world’s largest blog focussed exclusively on Web 2.0 and social media news, top companies such as Burger King, Zappos, and Sun Microsystems have been using social media to their advantage, enabling closer ties with their customers.

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is a security process where the user provides two means of identification: a physical token (such as a card) and a security code. The two factors involved are sometimes referred to as ‘something you have, and something you know’. A common example of 2FA is a bank card, where the card itself is the physical item and the Personal Identification Number (PIN) is the data that goes with it. According to industry experts, two-factor authentication drastically reduces the instances of online identity theft and other online fraud, since using only the victim’s password would no longer be enough to give a perpetrator access to his or her information. As an enhanced security measure, QNet has incorporated 2FA protection in the access or transfer of funds from your Quest Account. This means you not only have to enter your Quest Account PIN, but also need to answer a pre-configured Security Tool. Options for the Security Tool include the following:

Using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) 1. Obtain a security token. • Hardware token — Contact your local NSG for details on registration. • Software token — Using your mobile phone, download the program from • SMS token — Contact your local NSG for details. 2. Register Credential ID to activate your token. 3. Once registered, you can now use this for your Quest Account transactions. 4. On Quest Account, choose any settlement. 5. On the PIN CODE page, you need to enter the 6-digit code generated by your device or sent to you through SMS.

Getting To Know You Better The QNet KYC process was first unveiled at V-Malaysia 2010, as part of our efforts in stepping up our security measures to make sure that your information is secured and protected against fraud. • Security Question and Security Word – Only you know the answer and the word. • Token – A 6-digit code generated by a device or sent via SMS to your mobile phone. Tokens are of the following types: • Hardware Token – A physical device that, when activated, generates a 6-digit code. • Software Token – An application that you can download, install and activate in your smart phone (iPhone, BlackBerry, etc). • SMS – An option to receive the code on your phone with limited functionalities. 2FA is the industry standard for online and mobile banking transactions. With 2FA being part of QNet’s tight online system security, you can rest assured that your online transactions and your personal data are kept secured and private. For more details on 2FA policies and procedures, contact your local Network Support Group or send an email to Disclaimer: Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, iPod touch, Windows Mobile, and all other associated or related marks are, or may be, trademarks or registered trademarks of Google, Research In Motion (RIM), Apple Inc., and Microsoft and/or such other related or other entities. Data Protection Safeguarding Your Computer Against Viruses By Desiree Jumchai

n a world that is continually advancing towards a digital landscape, data is at the core of the Information Age and becoming increasingly accessible in an ever-expanding range of devices. No doubt, personal data is easier to share on the Internet, and therefore, also more exposed to unexpected foes. Data, not to mention your hard drives and other portable devices, can fall prey to a virus attack.

What Is A Virus? A virus is a computer programme that can copy itself and infect a computer. A virus might corrupt or delete data on your computer, use your Internet connection and emails to spread to other computers in the network, or erase all the contents of your hard drive. A virus is active once you execute an infected programme or application, or start your computer with a disc that contains infected files. Once the virus becomes active, it loads onto your computer’s memory and attaches itself into the hard drive or replicates itself into applications or system files you use. Viruses are also often spread through attachments in email messages or instant messaging chats. This is why it is essential that you never open email attachments unless you know who the mail is from and you are expecting it. Viruses can be camouflaged as attachments of images, or audio or video files.

Types Of Viruses Computer viruses are no different from biological viruses in the way they multiply in number and in the way they need a host to survive. However, in both scenarios, there is a cause – such as a weak immune system, expired antivirus software, or a malicious attack on your PC – for the virus to penetrate and multiply. Also, just as a biological virus spreads by injecting its DNA into a host cell, a computer virus attaches itself to a document or programme to infect other computers and programmes.

YOUR KNOWLEDGE CENTRE There are many different types of viruses, each programmed to infiltrate your computer and act in a variety of ways. Some are benign, while others are deadly. Due to an extremely large pool of viruses, it can be overwhelming at times to diagnose the type of virus and the root cause of the attack. The three most common viruses you are likely to encounter are: • Trojan Horse: This virus gets its name from the famous Greek epic, The Iliad. Similar to the events in the epic, a Trojan Horse appears to be nothing more than an interesting computer programme or file, which the user downloads without any hesitation. Once the virus is in your computer, all hell breaks loose. Contrary to most viruses, a Trojan Horse doesn’t multiply but makes your computer susceptible to malicious intruders by allowing them to access and read your information. This is an extremely precarious situation for your personal privacy. Therefore, you should avoid downloading programmes or files from sites if you’re not completely sure of what the file or programme does. • Worms: A worm is a programme that replicates itself by using computer networks and security flaws. More complex than a Trojan Horse, worms usually attack multi-user systems and spread over networks via emails. Once multiplied, worms scan the network and find more loopholes to exploit and attack. A classic example of a worm is the infamous I-LOVE-YOU virus. The key is to protect yourself from worms by updating your security patches and never opening emails from unknown senders. • Email Viruses: As evident by the name, these viruses spread through emails. An email virus automatically forwards itself to thousands of email addresses, waiting for the recipient to click them open. To avoid virusinfested emails, make sure your anti-virus is up-to-date and open attachments only after you are assured that they are from someone you trust. In addition, install a spam filter and a spam blocker.

Common Symptoms Of A Computer Virus The symptoms of a virus are varied and it is likely that you will see the effects immediately or gradually. The ultimate result is that normal operations of your PC or laptop are disrupted, leading to malfunction of many applications. Some of the most common ways to know if your data is already infected are: • The computer runs considerably slower than normal for no apparent reason. • The machine crashes and restarts by itself after every few minutes. • The applications and programmes on the machine do not respond to commands. • The machine freezes every now and then. • Error messages keep popping out on a regular basis.

• Your files and folders are deleted automatically. • Your disks and drives do not work properly. • Unknown icons start appearing on your desktop all of a sudden. • Your antivirus software fails to run properly and often remains disabled. • Printouts are faulty and incorrect. • There are sound problems with the speaker or sound card. • Seemingly random glitches appear on the screen. • Partitions seem to ‘disappear’. • System slowdowns occur. • Double extensions appear in files, such as .exe.vbs and similar.

Methods Of Eliminating A Virus Usually, an antivirus programme uses one of two methods to eliminate the virus: removal and quarantine. When the virus can be easily identified and can be removed without affecting other files, the antivirus programme removes it from the host place. Quarantine is deployed when the virus cannot be easily identified and removed from the file, and removal of the virus means removal of the complete file. Even after the virus is removed from your system, the next step is to scan the whole system to ensure that no infected files remain. We recommend using the latest antivirus software and firewall, to prevent viruses from infecting your computer in the first place. If you have any concerns regarding viruses, ask for help from a security professional.

Protect Your Computer From Viruses A virus can undo everything that you’ve compiled over the years in a matter of minutes. Therefore, it is essential to identify the source and deploy corrective measures accordingly to keep your computer and your data safe. But a virus does not mean the end of the world for you. Ensure adequate protection for your machine, like running and updating your antivirus at regular intervals. Here are some further tips on how to safeguard your computer from future attacks: • Install antivirus software and a firewall in your computer. Make sure they are updated frequently. • Avoid installing programmes from unknown sources. Purchase and install programmes only from trusted sources. • You should never double-click an email attachment that contains an executable. A file with an extension like EXE, COM or VBS is an executable, and an executable can do all sorts of damage, should it actually be a malicious file. • Never open an email attachment from someone you don’t know. Even if you know the sender, stop opening the attachment unless you are 100% sure of what it is. The sender may be unaware that it contains a virus. • Make sure your operating system is up-to-date with the latest security patches.

A Talk With Professor Dr Philippe Humbert By Chanatthanan Jonglaekha

oday’s cosmetics are more popular than ever and widely used among both males and females. Everyone wants to have younger-looking and radiant skin. But how much do you know about your own skin and your skin care products? Are they really beneficial for you? Leading dermatologist Professor Dr Philippe Humbert from France has the answers! Can you tell us about skin physiology? Professor Dr Philippe of the Humbert is the Head ent Dermatology Departm y rsit ive Un n ço san at Be France. Hospital Centre, in tor ec Dir the o als is He of the Centre’s Skin logy Engineering and Bio ent sid Pre d an , ory rat Labo ty cie So l na atio of the Intern Imaging d an cs ysi ph Bio for rms of the Skin. He perfo s many clinical studie n on skin cells and ski reconstruction.

The skin is the largest, heaviest, and most vital organ. Without skin, there is no life. The skin consists mainly of three layers: epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Inside the skin, there are oil glands, sweat glands, blood vessels, nerves, and a lot of different cells with different functions. The main function of the skin is to act as a barrier, protecting us from the environment.

What happens to skin functions as we age? Our organs, cells and tissues change as we age. The number of pigment-containing cells decreases while the density of collagen and the elasticity of the skin is progressively lost. However, these cells can be reactivated by different active ingredients contained in cosmetics.

Since you specialise in treating the signs of aging, what are some key active ingredients that can help boost the function of skin cells and stimulate collagen production? One of the most powerful ingredients is negative hydrogen. When negative hydrogen is microencapsulated in cosmetics, it plays a significant role as an antioxidant. When applied on the skin, negative hydrogen has two specific roles: to act as a free radical scavenger, and as a cell energy booster. Negative hydrogen helps the cells perform their tasks better, resulting in radiant skin. Other active ingredients include fucoïdan and Matrixyl 3000, which helps fibroblast (epidermis cells) synthesise collagen and elastin. Aquaxyl, another beneficial ingredient, hydrates the skin and prevents water loss, thus helping to moisturise and restore the skin’s barrier function.

How can we identify which product is the right one for us – particularly if our skin is sensitive and often experience allergic reactions? Exclusively available from QNet, Physio Radiance is the only anti-aging, hypoallergenic, unisex skin care range that helps your skin self-regulate, self-regenerate, and self-repair at a cellular level. For more details on Physio Radiance, see QNet Select on page 69.

Today, most skin care products contain some potentially dangerous chemicals that can be harmful to our health. This is obvious in the case of parabens, a type of preservative used to extend the shelf life of cosmetics and which may cause certain kinds of cancer and/or allergic reactions. Hypoallergenic skin care products are therefore your best bet for skin care solution, as they lower the possibility of adverse reactions.

What do you think about Physio Radiance, QNet’s revolutionary skin care line? Since Physio Radiance is formulated to reduce the risk of allergies by avoiding preservatives, parabens and other dangerous chemicals while at the same time including active ingredients which are useful for the skin, I feel that Physio Radiance is a good line of skin care products for everybody.

The Human Frequency & Vibrational Medicine The Music Of Life By Ashley Williams

care practitioners. If we can keep the body frequency high enough and well-oxygenated, we can be free of disease.

All objects including human organs have a natural vibratory rate referred to as ‘resonance’. If a part of the body begins to vibrate out of resonance or harmony, it creates what we term disease.

Essential Oil Vibrations: The frequency of essential oils (therapeutic grade) starts at 52 MHz up to 320 MHz, which is the frequency of rose oil. These higher frequencies create an environment in which disease, bacteria, virus, fungus and cancer cannot survive.

he human body is like a musical instrument, made up of vibrations. The vibrations of the body easily go out of tune, like the strings on a guitar, due to physical or emotional stress caused by today’s fast pace of modern living.

Healing Harmonics Jonathan Goldman, author of Healing Sounds: The Power of Harmonics, said, “If parts of the body become imbalanced, they may be healed through projecting the proper and correct frequencies back into the body.” Vibrational medicine looks at the energy anatomy within and around the physical body. Imbalances and disharmonies are treated using frequencies from flower and gem essences, sound, therapeutic grade essential oils, radionics, homeopathics, acupuncture, colour, hands-on healing, and crystals. Each individual sound, colour, crystal, or flower essence has a specific quality that is beneficial for a particular human organ, system, or emotion.

Healthy Frequency In 1992, Bruce Taino of Taino Technology built the first frequency monitor in the world. Taino has determined that the average frequency of a healthy human body during the daytime is 62 to 68 MHz. When the frequency drops, the immune system is compromised. If the frequency drops to 58 MHz, cold and flu symptoms appear; at 55 MHz, viral infections; and at 42 MHz, cancer. Taino’s machine is currently being used in the agricultural field and has also been used for many scientific research projects and by health

Examples Of Vibrational Medicine

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years to treat physical and emotional ailments. They have even been used to treat patients in European hospitals as well as used to clean and disinfect the hospitals, replacing harsh chemical cleaning products. Essential oils have complex chemical constituents which cleanse, protect, oxygenate, nourish, and offer many therapeutic benefits. Many therapeutic grade essential oils have antiparasitic, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. Hands-On Healing: Reiki is an energy healing art and holistic medical practice that has been recognised by the World Health Organisation as a complementary and alternative medicine. It is known to release harmful blockages in the chakras, thereby creating less stress and more well-being, activating the natural healing processes of the patient’s body. Pei-Jen Chang, PhD, ND, MSc, President of TCHPMA, said, “Mr Lee Wei De from Siam Reiki has proven with the 3D-MRA that Reiki is a very effective detoxification treatment, suitable for a very large number of disorders. Based on the evidence we gathered from the 3D-MRA equipment, we have proven the effectiveness of Reiki.” Himalayan Crystals: Crystals, at their simplest functional level, can store light and discharge it, or convert sunlight

directly into electricity. A step beyond, the crystalline form can also store information in vast quantities. A cut sliver of crystal can pick up a specified vibratory pattern; the sliver can then be ‘frozen’ and subsequently ‘unfrozen’ later to play back the pattern. It is widely believed that gems and crystals act as amplifiers when brought into contact with the human body’s seven chakra points. The energy field (otherwise known as the aura) that surrounds, penetrates, and binds the body, mind and spirit is in a perpetual state of activity. It is constantly in motion, continuously taking in and sending out vibrating energy waves through openings in the aura (otherwise known as chakras). Rotating at different speeds, these chakra points release energies. While your chakras can become clogged from stress or anxiety, using gems or crystals in accordance with meditation or bodywork is thought to help balance these energy points, promoting health, happiness and well-being.

Harmonic Scale Of Emotion Robert Tennyson Stevens, in his book Harmonic Scale of Emotion, indicates which emotions are high frequency and which ones are not. The highest frequency emotions are enthusiasm, love and joy. This is followed by pain (emotional or physical), which is then followed by anger. The next lower frequency emotion is fear, which is followed by grief. Below grief is apathy. Finally, the lowest frequency emotion is unconsciousness. If we are experiencing anything less than enthusiasm in any area of our life, we have lowered our frequency and are running the risk of disease. In order to be healthy, people must increase their frequency.

The Future Of Vibration Scientists are now using various techniques based on Nicola Tesla’s findings to imbed vibrational frequencies into solid material objects, whilst keeping the frequency constantly vibrating and locked inside. When objects or liquids are placed near or onto the material they become influenced by the constant vibratory pattern that is being emitted, thereby manipulating and increasing specific healthy frequencies. For example, imbedding the vibrational frequency of natural spring water would cause liquids to vibrate to the same rhythm frequency.

Prevention Is The Best Medicine Gabriel Cousens, MD, in the preface to Flower Essences and Vibrational Healing by Gurudas, commented, “Although we often misperceive disease as something that happens on the physical plane, the true cause of disease comes from emotional blocks which begin in one’s energy field and later manifest into physical disease. While vibrational therapies such as acupuncture or crystal healing can help overcome these problems, even stimulating the healing of physical diseases, inner tranquility and calmness to prevent and overcome the real causes of disease can only be obtained through balancing and harmonising the human energy systems, thereby increasing the flow of energy and releasing blocked emotions.”

Amezcua Harmonised Energy Products Containing different forms of vibrational frequencies, the Amezcua Harmonised Energy products can help influence liquids, food, or increase the human energy field, while balancing and harmonising the energy systems. All products have been tested and proven to possess a positive energy field. The Amezcua Chi Pendant has also been proven to protect against electromagnetic radiation, or e-smog, which is emitted from electronic devices such as mobile phones and wireless Internet routers. Scientists around the world have proven e-smog to have negative effects on the body’s natural energy and vibration, causing fatigue, headaches and other symptoms.

Spectacular Legacies & Cultural Diversity By Siti Rasiqah Hamzah

land of historical legacies, cultural opulence and awe-inspiring monuments, where travellers frenetically explore its bustling cities or embark on a soul-searching spiritual journey. Home to diverse landscapes from parched deserts, sun-kissed beaches to lush, fertile soils. This is India, in all its glory.

Rajasthan is surprisingly colourful for a desert state – vibrant splashes from its magnificent forts and exotic palaces, evergreen gardens and lush wildlife, the multicoloured turbans and glittering ghagras that the locals wear – all provide a complementary contrast to the splendour of its rippling desert landscape. Laced with royal treasures of the past, the Land of Kings paints a bold image, with a touch of romance and charming regal air. The City of Victory, Jaipur, has all the trappings of a modern metropolis yet flavoured strongly with an age-old charm that never fails to surprise a traveller. Stunning backdrops of ancient forts are dramatic testimonials of a bygone Inlay pattern at the Amber Fort, Jaipur. era; glorious palaces still stand tall, footprints from a rich royal past; and bargain hunters blaze a trail through brilliant bazaars. Jaipur beams boldest at dusk, when it is best to stroll along Amber Fort as it glows in the deep sunset. Udaipur, the Venice of the East, is truly one of India’s most seductive cities, with the splendid Lake Pichola lapping against the steps of shimmering marble temples, palaces and family mansions.

Gujarat is a dazzlingly diverse state that will reveal treasures hidden from the tourist hordes, if you search hard enough. Sitting on the banks of Sabarmati River, the main city of Ahmedabad is frantic but friendly. The biggest attractions here include Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram, founded in 1915, and the Calico Textile Museum, one of the world’s finest, housed in a wooden carved haveli, or private mansion.

Sprawling Maharashtra stretches from the gorgeous greens of the west coast right into the inner regions of India’s beating heart. It holds several breathtaking hill views and hill stations, one of which is Mahabaleshwar, founded in 1828 by Sir John ‘Boy’ Malcolm as a summer retreat. While the tea and summer balls are long gone, what hasn’t changed are the delightful views and equally agreeable temperatures. It is for these two reasons that Mahabaleshwar attracts hordes of local and foreign holidaymakers. If you are after just a hint of peace and quiet, then avoid the peak periods during the summer school holidays (April to June), Christmas, and Diwali.

But the real jewels in South India’s crown are the emerald backwaters that meander throughout Kerala. Networks of rivers, canals and lagoons nourish its rice paddies and coconut groves, while traditional houseboats cruise the waters from one village to another – Kollam being one of the notable stops you should make. The town’s shady streets and old markets are worth a wander, and the calm waterways of the surrounding Ashtamudi Lake are still fringed with coconut palms, cashew plantations, and traditional villages.
