$3,120.12 RAISED AT THE ONTARIO REGIONAL MEETING! Earlier this month, laureates from all over Ontario gathered in Hamilton for the annual Millennium Ontario Regional Meeting – De Novo 2009, hosted by the McMaster University Chapter. One of the major highlights of the weekend was that we raised $3,120.12 for the Millennium Network! This money will be used to help keep the Millennium Network going even after the Foundation closes at the end of December 2009. An amazing video that commemorates the Millennium Network (starring several Queen’s Laureates!) was made over the weekend and it can be viewed at http://tinyurl.com/denovo2009. At QMC, we recognize the impact that the Millennium Network has had on many of our lives, so we have taken it upon ourselves to do what we can to keep the Millennium Network alive! Over the past 3 weeks, QMC has been fundraising for the Millennium Network and competing in the Local Network Fundraising Challenge. We’ve held three fundraisers: the Halloween Bake Sale, Millennium Network Button Sale where we sold customized pins at the Regional Meeting, and finally the QMC Clothing Sale. In total we raised over $280! Thank-you to everyone who contributed by purchasing QMC Clothing or MN buttons, and a special thank you to Jenn Pratt and Andrea Richardson who volunteered their time and baking skills at the Bake Sale!

QMC NEWS CONTINUED… We only have three events left for this semester, so please check out the QMC Events Page (pages 3 – 4) for more information! Don’t worry if you have never been to a QMC event before, it is never too late to get involved with QMC. We understand that our laureates are busy with school work, sports, or other extracurricular activities but we strongly encourage that you to take some time to get to know other laureates here at Queen’s. We truly have a great group of people and the Millennium Network is something that every laureate should experience!
FOUNDATION NEWS As you may know, the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation’s mandate is ending at the end of 2009. However, this will not impact your ability to continue receiving payment of your renewable Excellence Award. Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) through the Canada Student Loans Program (CSLP) will be responsible for distributing the remaining Excellence Awards beginning January 1, 2010 until December 31, 2013. Please ensure that all of your contact information is up to date one final time. To do so, please go to www.laureatespace.ca and either confirm your contact information or insert your new information in the proper fields. It is important that we have your most up to date contact information, to ensure that you receive notification about your Excellence Award payments in the future. You will automatically be brought to a page that will allow you to update your information when you log in. The deadline to confirm or update your contact information is Monday, November 23rd. The Millennium Network is participating in the Aviva Community Fund Competition, where we have the opportunity to win $500,000 to support our network and our vision for making community work more effective. The Millennium Network has recently been voted into the semi-finals! From December 2nd to 16th, you will have the chance to vote the Millennium Network (one vote per day) into the FINALS, where our proposal will be judged for funding! To vote, you must first take 2 minutes and register at: https://www.avivacommunityfund.org/users/register Then all you have to do is take 2 seconds each day to vote at: http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf2804 It’s that quick and easy!
