Marbella: A place to call home

Marbella has long been recognised as one of the world’s most exclusive holiday destinations, and it remains so today. However, in recent years, the city has undergone a remarkable transformation—evolving at an unprecedented pace to become not just a retreat, but a place to live. A luxury sanctuary on the shores of the Mediterranean, Marbella is now a strategic choice for those seeking an unparalleled quality of life.

The rise of Málaga as a technological and cultural hub, the expansion of flight routes connecting the region directly to around 140 cities worldwide, and the arrival of leading international brands across all sectors have reshaped the landscape. Coupled with over 300 days of sunshine a year, top-tier educational and healthcare infrastructure, a secure environment, and an outstanding gastronomic scene, Marbella has established itself as one of the most desirable places to live in the world.

This shift is reflected in the real estate market. Today, international buyers are no longer just looking for holiday homes—they are investing in permanent residences, elevating Marbella to the ranks of Europe’s most sought-after residential destinations.

At Pure Living Properties, we have witnessed this evolution first-hand. Our clients now look far beyond the idea of a second home, whether searching for a villa, a premium apartment in a private development, or a branded residence. From the very beginning, we were certain of Marbella’s potential—and now the rest of the world has caught on: Marbella is a place to live.

EXCELLENCE

for Those Who Know

With over 16 years of experience, a prime presence in Puente Romano and central Marbella, and a personalised, client-first approach, Pure Living Properties has become a benchmark in the international luxury property market.

In a destination full of bold promises, what truly sets a brand apart is consistency, experience and authenticity. From day one, Pure Living Properties has followed its own path — crafting a boutique agency model that now epitomises real estate excellence in Marbella. Its motto, For Those Who Know, is more than a slogan — it’s a statement of intent.

“Marbella is a mature, highly competitive market,” says Javier Nieto, CEO of the firm. “That’s why we never set out to be the biggest — our goal has always been to be the best. And that only happens through daily dedication, close client relationships, and a genuine commitment to quality.”

With more than 5,600 properties managed, Pure Living Properties has become one of the most respected agencies on the Costa del Sol. In 2025, this status was reaffirmed when the company was named Best Luxury Real Estate Agency on the Costa del Sol by the prestigious Luxury Lifestyle Awards — the industry’s very own ‘Oscars of Luxury’.

“This recognition means the world to us,” says Nieto. “It comes after years of hard work, and it rewards a way of doing things we put into practice every single day — a constant pursuit of excellence.”

The agency operates from two prime locations: an office inside the iconic Puente Romano Hotel, the beating heart of Marbella’s luxury scene, and another in the centre of town. From there, an international team assists clients in over 15 languages — including English, French, German, Russian, Dutch and Arabic. This global mindset, combined with deep local knowledge, has been key to attracting discerning buyers and investors from the UK, Switzerland, the US, the Netherlands and beyond.

Specialising in Marbella’s most desirable areas — the Golden Mile, Puente Romano, Sierra Blanca and Los Monteros — Pure Living Properties handles both luxury sales and short-term rentals, with meticulous attention to every detail. “Whether someone is buying a €20 million villa or renting for two weeks, our standard is the same: excellence, discretion and outstanding results,” Nieto affirms.

But the company offers more than property transactions — it delivers a tailored lifestyle experience. From private chefs and chauffeured cars to bespoke experiences, yacht charters, restaurant bookings or relocation support, Pure Living Properties anticipates every need. “Our clients value that we think ahead — before they even ask. That’s true luxury,” says Nieto.

Exclusive listings are another cornerstone of the agency’s success. “When an owner entrusts us with the exclusive sale of their property, we respond with total commitment: personalised marketing, full control of the process and seamless communication. Nothing is left to chance.”

In an increasingly discerning market, where buyers are seeking not just unique homes but also an impeccable level of service, Pure Living Properties stands out for its human, professional and transparent approach. “The key is to understand that we don’t just sell homes — we help people realise life projects. And that calls for dedication and responsibility.”

The agency has also embraced the latest industry trends: digital nomads, branded residences, sustainable living and a new wave of younger, more sophisticated clients. “Marbella has evolved immensely — and so have we,” Nieto explains. “Today’s client is more informed, more global, and looking for more than square metres — they want an authentic lifestyle.”

That lifestyle is reflected in every property the firm represents. Take Villa Las Tortugas in Los Monteros, for instance — a true architectural gem comprising three elegant residences, curated by acclaimed interior designer Mariska Dietz. It’s a showcase of the Pure Living Properties philosophy: where elegance, function and soul come together.

“Our daily challenge is to exceed the expectations of those who trust us — and the only way to achieve that is with a great team, true passion, and long-term vision,” concludes Nieto.

For those who appreciate trust, craftsmanship and the comfort of knowing they’re in expert hands, Pure Living Properties is not just another agency. It’s the beginning of a new way of living — in Marbella and beyond.

The new face of

timeless luxury

A celebration of authenticity reborn — where legacy meets innovation. From the unmistakable silhouette of the Porsche 911 to the refined geometry of Patek Philippe, from Suárez’s handcrafted brilliance to Pedro Peña’s enduring interiors, these icons represent a luxury that evolves without ever losing its soul.

Porsche 911 Cuarenta Edition:

Built for Those Who Are Part of the Story

One of just 40 collector’s units is in Marbella

Forty cars. Forty years. And one clear purpose: to honour the enduring relationship between Porsche and the Iberian Peninsula. The 911 Cuarenta Edition is a limited series created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Porsche Ibérica — a piece of automotive history, crafted for those who understand that true luxury is as much about legacy as it is about innovation.

“After four decades of hard work and milestones, what better way to celebrate than with a bespoke version of our most iconic model, the 911,” says Tomás Villén, Managing Director of Porsche Ibérica.

Developed in collaboration with Style Porsche and the Sonderwunsch programme at the Zuffenhausen headquarters, this special edition goes far beyond standard customisation. Based on the new 911 Carrera GTS Coupé, it merges technical sophistication with cultural tribute.

At its core is the T-Hybrid powertrain: a 3.6-litre boxer engine paired with an electric turbo and an additional motor integrated into the eight-speed PDK gearbox. The result? 541 horsepower, 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds, and a top speed of 312 km/h — supported by rear-axle steering and adaptive PASM suspension.

But it’s the design that truly tells the story. The exclusive Quercus Green paintwork pays homage to the oak trees of the Iberian landscape, complemented by hand-painted anniversary badging, cream “911 40” pillars, and brushed aluminium trim inspired by the 1980s.

Satin black RS Spyder Design wheels with silver rims, red tail lights and subtle protective detailing on the rear arches create a visual dialogue between the brand’s past and its present.

Inside, it’s a showcase of artisanal excellence: truffle and cohiba leather, hand-stitched Crayon detailing, and a bespoke tartan pattern created exclusively for this edition. The “Cuarenta” logo appears embossed on the headrests and dashboard, with the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur signature proudly displayed on the centre console.

Even the details are bespoke — illuminated door sills, a matching green key with silver engraving, and a two-tone leather case. The custom-made car cover, complete with anniversary branding, is the finishing touch.

“We set out to design the kind of 911 a Spanish or Portuguese client might have dreamed of 40 years ago — and still desire today,” says Alexander Fabig, Vice President of Individualisation and Classic at Porsche.

Priced at €284,439, deliveries began in October 2024. Porsche Ibérica retained one for its heritage collection, while the remaining 39 have been acquired by true connoisseurs — including one in Marbella where passion for Porsche, precision engineering and unique collector’s pieces runs deep.

Because some vehicles are not just driven — they are lived.

La Almazara: The arrt of ananncennt ulture

Philippe Starck has brought his visionary creativity to Ronda, designing the world’s first bespoke olive oil mill, a true temple honouring liquid gold.

Nestled in the heart of the Serranía de Ronda, amidst a sea of ancient olive trees and fiery sunsets, stands LA Almazara, an extraordinary creation that redefines the olive oil tradition. This one-of-a-kind masterpiece, conceived by the renowned Philippe Starck, blends the millenary heritage of extra virgin olive oil with a bold artistic and architectural approach.

The striking cubic structure, towering 30 metres high, bears Starck’s unmistakable signature. It features symbolic elements that celebrate the essence of Andalusian culture: a concrete eye gazing into infinity and a weathered steel bull’s horn that embodies strength and tradition. Every corner of the building tells a story, with subtle nods to Spanish art icons such as Goya and Picasso, whose influence resonates in the interior design.

“I wanted to create an extraordinary place, powerful and transformative, where the beauty of the surroundings meets the timeless tradition of olive oil,” Starck remarked about his creation.

Inside LA Almazara, visitors are invited to embark on a journey of discovery. An interactive museum showcases the rich history of olive oil, from its ancient origins to cutting-edge techniques. Tastings of the exclusive oils produced by LA Organic, the estate housing the mill, offer an immersive sensory experience, fostering a deeper connection to nature.

Amidst the olive groves, vineyards, and fields of lavender, lies El Cortijo, a stunning 19th-century Andalusian farmhouse lovingly restored by architect Stefano Robotti, a close collaborator of Starck. This retreat combines historical charm with modern luxury, offering five exquisitely designed rooms. Each space is crafted for ultimate relaxation, featuring minimalist interiors and panoramic views of the Serranía. A serene pool, shaded by olive trees, provides an idyllic escape for moments of quiet contemplation.

This ambitious project, representing a €22 million investment, reimagines the concept of olive tourism and firmly places Ronda on the global map as a must-visit destination. Just an hour from Marbella, this dreamlike city is worth exploring in its own right, but a visit to LA Almazara elevates the experience to new heights—a celebration of art, culture, and Mediterranean gastronomy.

Cubitus: The story behind Patek Philippe’s most groundbreaking and coveted watch

An exclusive model inspired by Art Deco, redefining the traditional codes of haute horlogerie.

Since its founding in 1839, Patek Philippe has built a legacy on masterful craftsmanship, technical innovation, and timeless design. Each creation by the Geneva-based brand has been a milestone in watchmaking, and the Cubitus collection has set a new standard in haute horlogerie. Even before its official release, the Cubitus captured global attention, with high-profile figures such as Jay-Z and Zlatan Ibrahimovic wearing it. But the Cubitus is much more than one of the world’s most sought-after watches: it is a bold statement, honouring both the history and future of master watchmakers.

The Cubitus represents an audacious leap for Patek Philippe. Its distinctive square case with rounded edges and dials adorned with horizontal guilloché patterns break away from the dominance of round watches in luxury watchmaking. Inspired by geometric designs that Patek Philippe explored during the Art Deco era, the Cubitus reinterprets this heritage with a contemporary and sporty aesthetic.

Each watch in this collection reflects the meticulous attention to detail that defines Patek Philippe’s craftsmanship. The case and bracelet require over 55 manual operations to achieve their flawless finish. The contrast between satin-brushed and polished surfaces accentuates the sophisticated design, while the sapphire crystal case back reveals the high-precision movements beating within.

Three Versions, One Vision

The collection comprises three unique models, each with its own personality. The Grande Date, Day and Instantaneous Moon Phases, crafted in platinum, stands out with six patents for its movement, which synchronises its complications in just 18 milliseconds. Featuring a deep blue dial, this model has become a symbol of Patek Philippe’s technical innovation and is priced at approximately €88,370.

The bicolour model, combining stainless steel and rose gold, pays homage to vintage elegance. Its sunburst blue dial and integrated bracelet evoke classic sophistication, making it suitable for any occasion, with a price of €61,270. Finally, the stainless steel model with olive green dial, priced at €41,240, captures the essence of sport élégant with its robust design and everyday versatility.

From Geneva to the World

The Cubitus is a statement of intent. Since its unveiling, it has captivated collectors, celebrities, and watch enthusiasts alike. Beyond its exclusivity, this watch embodies Patek Philippe’s ability to evolve without compromising its essence. With the Cubitus, the brand proves that innovation and tradition can coexist in perfect harmony, solidifying its place as one of the most coveted timepieces on the global stage. And you? Would you dare to wear a square watch?

Suarez:

Timeless fine jewellery at the heart of Puente Romano

A Spanish heritage brand crafting bespoke pieces where tradition meets discreet luxury

In an age defined by instant gratification, fleeting trends and disposable luxury, there remain brands that transcend time with quiet elegance and impeccable craftsmanship. Suárez is one of them. For over 80 years, this Spanish jewellery house has been a name synonymous with artisanal excellence and understated sophistication.

The story began in 1943, in a modest 20-square-metre workshop at number 11 Calle Jardines in the centre of Bilbao. There, Emiliano Suárez—the brand’s founder—cut precious stones by hand, one by one. Eight decades later, the Suárez Group is a global name in luxury, yet it has remained fiercely loyal to its roots and its values.

“My father is 78 years old and still examines 90% of the stones we set,” reveals Juan Suárez, CEO of the company and part of the third generation leading the family legacy.

This deep-rooted commitment has given rise to a unique model: together with expert gemmologist Javier Bernuy, the Suárez team travels the world to handpick exceptional stones, which are then designed and crafted exclusively for sale in their own boutiques.

Puente Romano: The perfect setting

With more than 60 boutiques across Spain and an established presence in Portugal and Mexico, Suárez opened a new chapter in Marbella with one of its most exciting projects to date.

The brand already operated a counter in El Corte Inglés and a boutique on the iconic Calle Marqués de Larios in Málaga city. But in 2023, it unveiled a 60-square-metre store designed by renowned Parisian studio Bruno Moinard, located in the very heart of Marbella’s luxury scene—Puente Romano Beach Resort.

“We were searching for the perfect location—and we found it here. Puente Romano isn’t just a hotel, it’s where everything happens. It attracts a calm, sophisticated international clientele who value personalisation and discreet luxury,” says Juan Suárez.

Since its opening, the boutique has become one of the brand’s top-performing stores in Spain—especially thanks to the growing demand for its Sur Mesure service, a fully personalised experience in which each piece is entirely bespoke. From stone selection to sketching, the client is involved every step of the way, supported by a dedicated team of artisans. At times, craftsmen even travel from the Madrid atelier to create live drawings during the consultation.

Every step of the process is documented in a video that is presented to the client along with their finished piece—creating not just a jewel, but a memory.

“Our Puente Romano boutique is one of the most prolific in Spain when it comes to Sur Mesure creations. Every time I visit, we’re handing over a new piece,” Suárez reveals.

Where fine jewellery meets prime real estate

Suárez’s arrival in Marbella is no coincidence. “We see time and again that many of our jewellery clients are also buying exceptional homes,” says Juan Suárez—highlighting a powerful connection between haute joaillerie and the high-end property market, where firms like Pure Living Properties play a leading role.

Both companies share a vision: to offer irreplicable, personalised pieces that are destined to become treasured legacies for generations to come.

Legacy and a vision for the future

Beyond its stunning setting, Marbella has provided Suárez with a cosmopolitan community that values authenticity and artistry.

“Many of our pieces are one-of-a-kind capsules, crafted from exceptional materials and with a level of detail you’ll only find in our most iconic stores. Puente Romano is undoubtedly one of them.”

Looking ahead, the brand continues to invest in both its national and international presence. In Spain, highlights include the new Patek Philippe boutique inside its flagship on Calle Serrano, the complete refurbishment of the original Bilbao store—which will feature a dedicated space honouring the brand’s origins—and an expansion of its boutique in San Sebastián. Internationally, Suárez plans to strengthen its position in Portugal and Mexico, while exploring new strategic markets such as Saudi Arabia.

Jewels that tell stories

Even after 80 years, Suárez remains committed to creating jewellery with soul—unique pieces that become part of life’s most treasured moments.

“My mother always says she doesn’t remember when my father gifted her a particular handbag, but she’ll never forget the ring he gave her when I was born, or the one for their 25th wedding anniversary,” shares Juan Suárez. “Jewellery carries meaning in a way few things do—it becomes part of our story.” And just like that, Suárez continues to craft emotions into gold and stones—a legacy of timeless elegance, rooted in authenticity and destined to endure.

Your next chapter begins with a view of the Mediterranean.

how to sell a property worth over 10 million euros in under four months

Pure Living Properties launched a high-impact communication and marketing campaign that captured the attention of more than 50 national and international media outlets.

Villa Las Tortugas, one of the most unique properties in Los Monteros and a true standout in the Pure Living Properties portfolio, with an initial asking price of €10,850,000, was sold in a record time of less than four months. Located just 80 metres from the sea, on an exceptional triple plot of 3,738 m², the estate features a main residence and two guest houses designed by renowned interior designer Mariska Dietz. Pure Living Properties had exclusively managed the villa’s premium holiday rentals, and later, when the owner decided to sell, she once again chose Pure Living Properties under a co-exclusive agreement.

To support the sale process, the agency launched a high-profile media and marketing campaign that drew attention from more than 50 media outlets. The property appeared in leading international publications such as Vanity Fair Italia, Fox and AP News, and was also widely featured in the Spanish press as Hola, and special articles in the country’s three main economic newspapers (Expansión, Cinco Días and elEconomista), industry magazines, and of course, the local media.

The strategy also included a major digital marketing push, a private professional event held at the villa with key figures from the high-end residential sector, and an exclusive open house for real estate agents specialising in premium properties. These efforts positioned Villa Las Tortugas as one of the most attractive investment opportunities of the season.

PEDRO PEÑA:

Timeless style through the language of interior design

From Marbella’s golden age to an international design legacy shaped by Mediterranean soul, artistic flair and a forward-looking spirit.

In Marbella, there are names that need no introduction. In the world of interior design, Pedro Peña is not just a brand — it’s a philosophy. A refined aesthetic rooted in simplicity, noble materials and emotional resonance. What began over fifty years ago with a young painter inspired by the Mediterranean has become a global design studio with projects in London, Geneva, Qatar and Paris — though its heart remains firmly anchored on the Costa del Sol.

The story starts almost by chance. Born in Jaén, Pedro Peña arrived in Marbella as a young artist in search of light and inspiration. “I wasn’t born here, but I’ve lived here for more than 50 years. I feel I belong to Marbella — and here I’ll stay,” he shared in conversation with Javier Nieto, CEO of Pure Living Properties. His journey began with painting, selling artworks to architects — and

then came the unexpected twist: “They started asking me to paint tabletops, and that’s how I found myself in the world of interior design.”

As Marbella evolved from a quiet coastal town into a global symbol of Mediterranean luxury, so too did Pedro’s studio. His collaboration with renowned architect Melvin Villarroel on the iconic Puente Romano marked a defining moment. “We worked on the central spaces of Puente Romano together. Later, we collaborated in Paris, in Manchester… He was a true master for me.”

From the outset, Pedro’s approach was clear: to create spaces not only aesthetically beautiful but intuitively liveable. For him, design is applied art — not meant to impose, but to move. “Luxury has two essential ingredients: space and quality. True luxury is about living

with ease and authenticity. I don’t design homes for myself — I design for the people who will live in them.”

Over the decades, his style has become a benchmark: understated yet warm, elegant yet natural, always with a Mediterranean undercurrent and an artist’s sensibility. The Pedro Peña showroom on Marbella’s Golden Mile remains a must-visit for those who want to see how design becomes atmosphere — how the soul of a home can be captured through pure lines and noble materials.

But Pedro Peña is not just a story of the past — it is very much about the present and the future. Today, the studio is led by his son, Felipe Peña, who embodies the second generation of this design legacy. “They call me the hidden CEO,” Pedro jokes. “But what matters is that the legacy lives on.”

Having grown up among sketches, galleries and site visits, Felipe has taken the reins with a clear sense of purpose. “Carrying forward my father’s vision is more than a responsibility — it’s a commitment to a way of understanding design,” he says. “My goal has always been to reinforce that identity, while projecting the company into the future.”

This has not been a disruptive transition. Quite the opposite — Felipe has brought new tools and expanded the firm’s scope while honouring its core. “The key lies in understanding that my father’s vision was never static. He embraced change and remained curious. Our role today is not to freeze that vision, but to interpret it through new languages, new codes and new technologies.”

Now, Pedro Peña Interior Design is a multidisciplinary studio with over a hundred professionals, in-house production and a solid presence in Europe’s most exclusive projects. Blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation, each piece is bespoke, with complete control over the creative and production process.

“The essence remains,” Felipe affirms. “A deep attention to detail, the pursuit of harmony between art and design, sensitivity to materials, and a commitment to the client’s emotional connection. The transformation has been technical, technological and structural — but our perspective remains just as rigorous.”

This evolution includes collaborations with high-end brands, artists and developers, as well as growing involvement in the premium real estate sector. Marbella, of course, remains

at the centre. “It’s evolved from a luxury destination into a true international reference point,” Felipe explains. “Today’s client is more diverse, more informed, and more demanding. The market is shifting towards greater personalisation — where design must go beyond beauty to meet expectations of exclusivity, originality and distinction.”

The brand’s showroom — part exhibition space, part gallery, part creative lab — is a reflection of that holistic vision. Here, it’s not just about furniture or décor; it’s a space where you understand a philosophy — one that unites beauty, purpose and emotion. “Every project is a chance to inspire, to surprise, to enhance people’s lives,” says Felipe. “Our

challenge is to keep growing intelligently, while preserving the level of detail, exclusivity and integrity that has brought us this far.”

Even as the brand expands, its growth is carefully measured. “Our aim is to consolidate Pedro Peña Interior Design as a benchmark in the industry while remaining true to our roots and attentive to every project,” Felipe insists. “My aspiration is to keep refining our processes so that we grow in a sustainable, controlled way — nurturing close relationships with our clients, our collaborators and the artists we support.”

Looking ahead, the studio’s future will be defined by sustainability, technological innovation and a fresh perspective on luxury — always with emotion at the core. “The challenge is to evolve without losing our essence. To embrace technology without sacrificing creativity. And above all, to continue creating designs that move people.”

Together, Pedro and Felipe Peña represent a rare balance of wisdom and renewal — experience and vision. Father and son have built — and maintained — a soulful brand, one that resists passing trends and follows its own rhythm. “My father always said design must serve the person living in the house — not the other way around. And that remains true today,” Felipe concludes.

In a world where design often seeks to impress or sell, Pedro Peña Interior Design stands firmly for authenticity, noble materials and quiet beauty that only reveals itself through experience. And through it all, Marbella remains the beating heart and source of constant inspiration. “There’s a light here,” Pedro once said, “that you won’t find anywhere else. And that changes everything.

Ismael Mérida

“I never dreamed of becoming an architect, but architecture became my life”

An intimate conversation between

Ismael Mérida and Javier Nieto, CEO of Pure Living Properties

Restless soul, unexpected calling. Over nearly three decades, Ismael Mérida has signed off on some of the most distinctive villas in Marbella’s Golden Triangle. His work stands out for the way it blends Mediterranean identity with the expectations of an increasingly global and demanding clientele. From his Marbella-based studio, he has crafted an architectural language rooted in authenticity, guided by experience and fuelled by emotion.

We sat down —as we’ve done many times before— to talk openly and off the record. What followed was a raw, honest, and refreshingly unfiltered conversation about architecture, Marbella, and the creative fire that keeps him going.

You’re one of Marbella’s best-known architects, but for those who don’t know your story… how did it all begin? Did you always know this was your path?

Not at all. I had no calling. I was studying humanities and wasn’t even particularly good at drawing. But my mother once gave me a piece of advice that changed everything: “Find something where you won’t have a boss.” Through a series of coincidences, I ended up in architecture. And here I am, almost thirty years later. My entire life now revolves around something I never planned. I can’t work without a pencil. It’s always with me. Drawing has become my way of communicating.

In those years you’ve witnessed a shift from a craft-based approach to one ruled by 3D, renders and now even AI. How have you handled that transition?

The new generation is naturally intuitive when it comes to digital tools, and that’s a good thing. Today’s renders are spectacular — they convey a lot. But they also open the door to a worrying trend: technology, when used well, is wonderful. But when misunderstood, it can promote mediocrity.

We’re now seeing incredibly simplistic designs dressed up in digital polish, looking far better than they really are. True architecture involves a process — emotional, reflective, creative.

Copying and pasting isn’t creating. And honestly, we’re seeing a flood of projects that do just that. Technology should elevate ideas, not replace them.

Some architects impose their own style; others adapt to the client. Where do you position yourself?

I listen. Always. My best work has come from open dialogue with clients who have a clear vision. Sometimes they bring me aesthetic ideas that aren’t naturally mine, but I find that interesting — it pushes me to explore. Now, if I sense they’re a bit lost, that’s when I step in and take the lead. I don’t have one fixed style. I adapt, but I always try to bring value through architecture.

In Marbella we talk about luxury a lot, but you clearly have a particular understanding of it. What does the word mean to you?

To me, luxury is harmony. You don’t need opulence. If something is well thought-out, well balanced, and gives you peace — that’s luxury. It’s a feeling. It’s not the most expensive marble or the flashiest sofa — it’s the way a space embraces you. When everything has its place and its purpose. That’s what gives a home its soul.

You’ve worked on large-scale developments and bespoke residential projects. Where do you feel most at home?

There was a time I was fascinated by large-scale projects. They felt like a challenge — a showcase of architectural muscle. But today, without a doubt, I find far more satisfaction in working on villas. I can control every detail: layout, materials, lighting. In big developments, budgets often chip away at ideas. With villas, I can express myself creatively in full.

How has the high-end buyer changed in recent years?

In the past, homes were built to be lived in. Now, many developers create properties to sell, not to live in. The end client —although better informed thanks to social media— no longer wants to be involved in the full process. They want results, not the journey. That

means we have to deliver intelligent, functional, beautiful solutions that reflect how people live today. Buyers expect the best — but don’t want to build it themselves.

How do you think Marbella compares to other global destinations?

In terms of design, Marbella is right up there with Miami, the French Riviera or Ibiza. And I say that with conviction. The level is outstanding. But when it comes to execution, we still have room to grow. We’re missing skilled trades — those master craftsmen who once brought magic to the smallest details. That art is fading. If we want to stay competitive at the top end of the market, we need to raise our standards in finishing.

Do you think Marbella is at risk of losing its identity?

In some ways, yes. The arrival of foreign funds and the race to appeal to a global audience has led to many developments adopting an international, neutral style. The risk is that Marbella becomes unrecognisable. We can evolve, and blend styles, but we can’t lose our roots. The Andalusian patio, the Mediterranean proportions, traditional materials... those elements are what make us unique.

You’ve worked in Marbella, Ibiza, and abroad. Does your environment influence your design? Always. I don’t design in Ibiza the same way I do here. Ibiza has this freer, more organic energy. If you’re open to it, each place leaves its mark. Even when you start with a clear concept, travelling, breathing in new atmospheres, noticing unfamiliar details... it all seeps into the work. That fusion — between your vision and the spirit of the place — is what gives a project its soul.

And finally, after all these years… what still motivates you as an architect?

Passion. Without it, I wouldn’t last. This profession is incredible — but it’s also demanding. Bureaucracy, revisions, pressure... You can only get through it all if you’re truly emotionally connected to what you do. When I interview someone to join the studio, the first thing I look for isn’t their CV — it’s their ability to get excited about a project. Without that spark, there’s no architecture. No team. No joy.

Selling a luxury property is never just about showing it, it’s about turning it into something truly desirable.

Some say that in high-end real estate, it’s the property that chooses the buyer, not the other way around. At Pure Living Properties, these private events are far more than viewings — they are immersive lifestyle experiences, designed with the elegance and attention to detail that define Marbella’s luxury market.

Each Open House offers industry professionals, collaborators, and select agents an intimate opportunity to discover exceptional homes in Marbella’s most sought-after locations. The difference lies in the details: personalised service, curated experiences, and a carefully orchestrated ambience that allows guests not just to see the property, but to feel at home within it.

One recent Open House, hosted in a fully renovated apartment in Les Belvédères, showcased the full transformation led by Pure Living Properties’ project management team. From the sleek interiors to the vintage luxury car displayed at the entrance, every element reflected the spirit of the home.

refined contrasts A journey through

Just beyond Marbella lies a city reborn. Málaga has emerged as one of Europe’s most visited destinations — a vibrant capital of art, history and light. From world-class museums to traditional taverns, it balances creative energy with authentic flavour. A perfect day trip where culture and cuisine speak the same elegant language.

Hidden Málaga

History, gastronomy and the legacy of Picasso

Málaga has experienced an impressive transformation in recent decades, becoming a vibrant cultural and gastronomic hub while maintaining its authentic Mediterranean and seafaring character. With over 2,800 years of history, it stands as one of Europe’s oldest cities, where walking its streets feels like journeying through time.

The city proudly celebrates its most famous native, Pablo Picasso, with the Museo Picasso Málaga, which houses over 200 of his works and offers deep insight into his artistic journey. Málaga’s historic center, centered around the elegant Calle Larios, is full of charm—narrow streets, lively squares, and fragrant blossoms like orange and jasmine, from which the symbolic biznaga is crafted.

Among its architectural landmarks are the Cathedral of the Incarnation—nicknamed La Manquita for its unfinished tower—the Alcazaba, Gibralfaro Castle, and the Roman Theatre, all telling stories of past civilizations.

Málaga’s art scene extends beyond Picasso, with modern institutions like the Centre Pompidou Málaga and the Museo Carmen Thyssen enriching the cultural landscape. Culinary traditions remain central to local life, with dishes like espeto de sardinas and porra antequerana served in seaside chiringuitos or the bustling Mercado de Atarazanas.

A visit to the iconic Bodega El Pimpi, a gathering place for artists and celebrities since 1971, reveals another layer of Málaga’s cultural identity. For a more relaxed experience, areas like Pedregalejo—with its historic fishermen’s houses and beachfront bars—or the lush La Concepción Botanical Garden offer a peaceful escape.

Less than an hour from Marbella, Málaga is a perfect destination for a weekend getaway—especially in spring, when the city’s beauty and atmosphere are at their peak.

SMART LIVING, DESIGNED FOR YOU_

MARBELLA - SOTOGRANDE

The thrill behind

discreet luxury

Speed, precision, elegance — true adventure lies in how you choose to move. From the polished teak of a Riva yacht to the power of the world’s finest private circuits, and the freedom of flying with LunaJets, this is the luxury of movement redefined. For those who seek more than the destination.

RIVA

The eternal icon of elegance at sea

From the legendary Aquarama to the contemporary Rivamare, the Italian brand redefines luxury on water with timeless distinction, masterful craftsmanship and unmistakable character.

In the world of luxury yachting, few names evoke such emotion, such prestige, such cinematic beauty as Riva. Since its founding in 1842 on the shores of Lake Iseo, the Italian shipyard has done more than build boats — it has created icons. And none more iconic than the Aquarama, the polished mahogany dream launched in the 1960s that became known, quite simply, as the Rolls Royce of the sea

With its gleaming woodwork, chrome accents and sun-drenched glamour, the Aquarama was more than a boat — it was a symbol. A lifestyle. A floating front row seat to the golden age of Mediterranean elegance. Sophia Loren lounged on its stern. Brigitte Bardot bathed in its reflected light. Even James Bond couldn’t resist its charm. These boats were for those who required no introduction.

To say “Riva” is to speak one of the most beautiful words in the nautical world. A name that conjures the sophistication of mid-century Europe and the enduring seduction of the open sea. And yet, despite its heritage, Riva is anything but nostalgic. It is a brand that moves forward without forgetting where it came from — blending tradition and innovation with rare finesse.

Legacy, Reimagined

The Rivamare, at 11.88 metres, is a tribute to this legacy with a distinctly modern spirit. Its sleek profile and glossy mahogany, treated with no less than 24 layers of varnish, evoke the past, while its integrated swim platform, double bed and compact galley bring Riva into the now. Comfort and elegance coexist with effortless ease — proof that sophistication need not be sacrificed for innovation.

In 2025, Riva unveiled its latest masterpiece: the Iseo Super. At 27 feet, this agile runabout evolves the beloved original model with enhanced performance, clever design upgrades and a choice of propulsion: diesel, petrol or full-electric. With top speeds reaching up to 41 knots, the Iseo Super delivers all the excitement of speed with the subtlety of craftsmanship.

Everything is designed with purpose — and poise. A counter-curved windscreen, a signature Riva detail, gives the boat its unmistakable line. Below deck, a U-shaped sofa wraps around an electric table that disappears into the floor when not in use. Mahogany shelving, leather-lined cabinets and even a dedicated Magnum bottle fridge complete a space where every element feels intentional and exquisitely made.

Even moored, the Iseo Super continues to exude its charisma. A bespoke protective cover, inspired by automotive design, cocoons the boat in a double-layered fabric: waterproof on the outside, breathable wool on the inside. Form, meet function. Always with flair.

A Timeless Standard

From the Aquariva Super to the electric El-Iseo, each Riva model is a bold statement — not of change, but of continuity. A devotion to detail. A refusal to compromise. An unwavering belief that true elegance doesn’t chase trends — it sets its own course.

Because when something is made with soul, it never goes out of style.

A whole journey on your table.

LunaJets:

With over 15,000 flights operated annually and Málaga as one of its top destinations, the Swiss aviation broker offers far more than luxury—it offers absolute freedom.

In a world where time is the ultimate luxury, LunaJets doesn’t just fly you from point A to B—it crafts an experience of pure autonomy. With access to a global fleet of more than 5,000 aircraft and over 15,000 operations per year, this Swiss-based private aviation broker has become the trusted ally of CEOs, celebrities, athletes, aristocrats and high-profile travellers seeking a bespoke, seamless and premium flying experience.

“Today, luxury isn’t about excess. It’s about the invisible—the things that are done before you even ask,” says Carlos Matallana, Managing Director Spain at LunaJets, in conversation with Pure Life. “Some clients travel with their dogs, others request themed catering or a car waiting directly on the tarmac.

We’ve sourced a local newspaper from a tiny German town to surprise a client mid-flight, and we once planned a honeymoon route so the aircraft flew over Mount Kilimanjaro just in time for sunset.”

Unlike traditional private aviation firms, LunaJets owns no aircraft. That’s precisely the strength of its model: asset-light, completely impartial, and focused on sourcing the best jet for each client’s needs.

“We can arrange anything from a turboprop to an Airbus 330 with a bedroom, shower and full crew. Our clients only pay for what they fly,” explains Matallana.

Rates range from €3,000 to €3,500 per flight hour for light jets and can reach €11,000 per hour for top-tier aircraft. Special operations, such as fully bespoke international travel itineraries, can surpass €500,000, with every

last detail curated by the LunaJets team.

Precision, Privacy and 24/7 Service

Discretion and around-the-clock availability are the cornerstones of LunaJets’ tailored service. “We get calls at 2 a.m. for flights at 5. We operate 24/7, 365 days a year,” Matallana affirms.

Last year alone, the company coordinated over 1,200 private flights from Spain, with Málaga Airport emerging as one of its most important hubs—not only due to its traffic volume but also thanks to its year-round activity, setting it apart from seasonal destinations like Ibiza.

Marbella: A Jet-Set Favourite

“We work with clients from the UK, the Middle East, Switzerland, Germany, the US… all with substantial purchasing power,” says Matallana. “Many fly to finalise real estate deals, view luxury villas or relocate for part of the year. The synergy between private aviation and high-end property is undeniable.”

LunaJets handles everything from family holidays to corporate travel, medical flights, event transfers or last-minute getaways. Among the preferred aircraft for clients are the Gulfstream G650, Global 7500 and Falcon 8X— floating salons in the sky equipped with the latest technology and superior comfort.

Founded in Switzerland in 2007, LunaJets now operates out of Paris, Dubai, London, Monaco, Madrid and beyond—serving as a strategic partner to a global clientele who value effortless, discreet and bespoke travel to any destination in the world.

Aloha Golf Club:

Celebrating 50 Years at the Heart of Marbella’s Golf Legacy

Designed by Javier Arana, this iconic course has remained true to its spirit, becoming a benchmark for golf lovers across Europe.

Tucked into the lush hills of Marbella’s renowned Golf Valley, Aloha Golf Club marks its 50th anniversary in 2025 with a legacy few can rival. As the final creation of Spain’s most celebrated golf course architect, Javier Arana, Aloha is far more than just a beautifully designed course

— it’s a club with soul, history and a cosmopolitan community that has helped shape Marbella into one of Europe’s premier golfing destinations.

From the moment it opened in 1975, Aloha has struck a careful balance between preserving its heritage and embracing modernity.

“While we’ve made investments over the years, the priority has always been to maintain Arana’s original vision,” says Borja Oliva, the club’s director, in conversation with Pure Life. As Arana passed away just before the course’s completion, Aloha stands as a tribute to his final masterpiece — a layout that still captivates with its refined lines, spectacular views, and attention to detail.

Aloha has grown hand in hand with the evolution of golf in Marbella. “The Costa del Sol wouldn’t be the same without golf,” says Oliva. “A huge percentage of those choosing Marbella for a second home play golf, and the wide range of nearby courses allows members to enjoy so much more than just their own club.” This vibrant golfing culture directly impacts the property market: according to portals such as Fotocasa and Idealista, homes located next to golf courses can increase in value by up to 20%.

Over the decades, Aloha has hosted some of Europe’s most prestigious tournaments, enhancing its reputation on the international stage. The Andalucía Open (2007, 2008, and 2012), the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino (2016 and 2019), and most recently, the Staysure Marbella Legends (2025), which welcomed legends like José María Olazábal, Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Colin Montgomerie, have all been played here. “It’s a real honour for us to have welcomed some of the finest players in European golf,” Oliva notes.

“We aim to remain one of Marbella’s top golf clubs, continuing to offer an exceptional course, world-class service, and the distinct spirit that makes Aloha what it is.”

Puerto Banús

55 years of luxury and haute couture on the Mediterranean

Spring 1970. Under the warm glow of the Costa del Sol, a select gathering of 1,700 distinguished guests comes together to celebrate a historic moment—one that will forever leave its mark on Marbella. Among them are Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco, filmmaker Roman Polanski, business magnate Hugh Hefner, and legendary heart surgeon Dr. Christiaan Barnard. The sea breeze drifts through the terraces as a young Julio Iglesias serenades the evening with his music. The occasion? The grand opening of Puerto Banús—a marina unlike any other in Europe, brought to life by the vision of entrepreneur José Banús and designed by Noldi Schreck, the same architect behind Beverly Hills.

What was once a small fishing enclave was now transformed into a symbol of elegance, exclusivity, and Mediterranean lifestyle. Even in its early years, Puerto Banús quickly became a sanctuary for the world’s elite—a place where the first superyachts of international fortunes docked, and where Hollywood stars and European aristocracy found their private retreat. Yet, what few could have predicted on that inaugural evening was that, more than five decades later, this marina would stand as one of the greatest luxury destinations in the world.

From the jet set to a global luxury empire

Over time, Puerto Banús evolved far beyond its role as a marina, becoming an open-air runway for the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. By the 1980s, the first flagship boutiques of luxury brands began to appear, attracting an international clientele devoted to haute couture.

Through the 1990s and early 2000s, Puerto Banús underwent a commercial revolution, welcoming fashion icons such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Fendi, Valentino, Rolex, and Bvlgari. Their elegant storefronts became a symbol of refined luxury, cementing the marina as a destination where fashion and exclusivity go hand in hand.

Today, with over 100 high-end boutiques, Puerto Banús ranks as Spain’s second-largest luxury shopping destination, surpassed only by Barcelona. Brands like Hermès, Loewe, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Jimmy Choo, and Omega have further elevated its prestige, securing its place among the world’s premier shopping hubs. In 2024, Puerto Banús’ luxury boutiques generated over €310 million in revenue, marking a 9.9% increase from the previous year. This surge is largely driven by the 195% growth in Arab tourism since 2019, positioning them as the marina’s leading clientele. Additionally, the rise in luxury travellers from the United States, facilitated by direct flights to Málaga, has significantly contributed to this expansion.

For decades, Puerto Banús has been a magnet for the most influential figures in film, music, and royalty. From Sean Connery, Naomi Campbell, and Grace Kelly to Marlon Brando, the Kennedys, Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart, Liz Taylor, and Prince, the marina has played host to some of the world’s most iconic personalities. Beyond shopping and celebrity glamour, Puerto Banús has also become a stage for high-end fashion events. The prestigious Marbella Fashion Show transforms Avenida Lola Flores into a catwalk each summer, bringing together renowned designers and international brands in a one-of-a-kind setting with the Mediterranean as a backdrop.

More than a marina, a way of life

Puerto Banús is more than just fashion and luxury—it is an immersive experience. Gourmet dining, iconic beachfront bars, exclusive private events, and a thriving high-end real estate market define its status as a worldclass destination. With 915 moorings accommodating everything from small vessels to some of the world’s most spectacular superyachts, the marina continues to be a benchmark for elite yachting and nautical prestige. With 55 years of history and many more chapters still to be written, Puerto Banús remains an international icon—the most emblematic postcard of Marbella. Here, luxury isn’t an option—it is a way of life.

Flavours with a

legacy

In the heart of Andalusia, tradition becomes haute cuisine. From the refined heritage of Al-Andalus at Noor to the seasonal mastery of Bardal in Ronda, the South reveals its essence through bold, thoughtful flavours. A culinary journey where history is served on every plate, with stars that shine far beyond the Michelin guide.

NOOR:

A sensory journey to the heart of Al-Andalus

Awarded three MICHELIN stars, this Cordoba-based restaurant tells the story of Andalusia’s rich culinary heritage through the creations of chef Paco Morales.

Mediterranean cuisine, particularly in Andalusia, has its roots deeply embedded in the legacy of Al-Andalus, an era where Arab, Christian, and Jewish cultures intertwined, leaving an indelible mark on the flavours and techniques of the region. Ingredients such as almonds, citrus fruits, saffron, and olive oil became foundational to a tradition that continues to define the culinary identity of Andalusian villages. In Córdoba, chef Paco Morales has revived this historical legacy, transforming it into a unique culinary experience that can be savoured at Noor, his celebrated three-MICHELIN-star restaurant.

“Historical research is my greatest source of inspiration. By delving into ancient texts, recipes, and traditions, I discover endless opportunities to reinterpret and innovate. My dedication comes from an unwavering curiosity and a desire to contribute to the evolution of gastronomy with every step we take,” explains Morales, who collaborates with historians and archaeologists to bring to life what he calls “possible pasts.”

A space where history is reimagined and emotions are awakened—this is Noor. A oneof-a-kind concept that bridges the past and present, fuelled by the passion of a chef who has redefined haute cuisine.

Each season, Noor journeys through time, exploring different historical periods. This year, the restaurant delves into the 18th century, an era of profound transformation that marks the culmination of a historical narrative. From the moment guests step into Noor, they are transported to the golden age of Al-Andalus. Every detail, from the architecture to the intangible elements such as lighting, music, and the aromas that fill the space, has been meticulously designed to complement the story behind each dish.

In this enchanting setting, infused with the essence of Andalusia, Noor serves three carefully curated tasting menus: Tanwer (€170), inspired by the Enlightenment, celebrates the influence of Al-Andalus on the gastronomic renewal of the 18th century; Thawra (€195), meaning “revolution,” reflects the political and social transformations of the era, blending Andalusian flavours with French influences; and Taqadum (€285), meaning “progress,” pays tribute to the advancements that propelled gastronomy towards modernity, connecting the past and the future.

Signature dishes include slow-roasted lamb shoulder with Wagyu A5 and an infusion of aged teas and stewed cashews, Karim of white sesame with its ice cream, green apple, and desert caviar, and grilled sea bass with a rose-infused escabeche, charred lemon, and verdinas. These culinary masterpieces are just a few of the highlights in Paco Morales’ sensory journey through the heart of Al-Andalus.

Bardal: Haute nucscne wcth andaluscan soul

The philosophy and creative freedom of chef Benito

Gómez bring life to this renowned Ronda restaurant with two MICHELIN stars.

In the picturesque city of Ronda, where history blends seamlessly with magic, just steps away from one of its most iconic landmarks—the emblematic Puente Nuevo—lies Bardal, a sanctuary of haute cuisine infused with Andalusian soul. With two MICHELIN stars and two Repsol Suns, chef Benito Gómez has transformed local flavours into a remarkable culinary experience that leaves no one indifferent.

At Bardal, this Catalan-born chef, deeply rooted in Andalusia, tells a story with each of his creations, where local ingredients take centre stage. Seasonal produce, carefully selected, forms the foundation of dishes that play with textures, colours, and contrasts, reinterpreting traditional Andalusian cuisine with a contemporary sensitivity. Ronda has become a premier gastronomic destination, and Benito Gómez has raised the bar to new heights.

The restaurant offers two tasting menus designed to delight even the most discerning palates: the Bardal Menu and the Grand Bardal Menu, both accompanied by the option of exceptional wine pairings that enhance every dish. Among the highlights, the selection of artisanal cheeses that precedes the desserts stands out, paying homage to the region’s rich cheesemaking heritage. Signature dishes like razor clams with maize and vanilla or mushroom collagen are among the most memorable courses, seamlessly blending the best of the land, the sea, and Ronda’s culinary traditions.

The ambience at Bardal is as exceptional as its cuisine. The restaurant combines contemporary, minimalist decor with views that capture the essence of Ronda’s stunning landscape. This harmony between setting and culinary artistry turns every visit into a truly multi-sensory experience.

Bardal is more than just a restaurant; it is a tribute to Andalusia. “It reflects my philosophy and my freedom,” says Benito Gómez. Without a doubt, this haven of fine dining is a must-visit on any trip to Ronda. Advance booking is essential to enjoy this unparalleled experience—a perfect blend of tradition, innovation, and the unmistakable flavour of southern Spain.

The 2,161 m² plot is gently tiered, allowing the villa to flow effortlessly towards the garden, heated pool and fully equipped pool pavilion — all framed by tall trees offering complete privacy.

Bedrooms: 6 Bathrooms: 6 Plot: 2.161 m² Built: 1.256 m²

Built Interior: 890 m²

Terrace: 245 m²

The interior is a celebration of custom craftsmanship. Distributed across two levels, the property is arranged into three distinct zones: the elegant central living area, a private bedroom wing and a guest wing — all designed to maintain separation while preserving a harmonious spatial flow. Expanses of glass frame the views, while natural light draws attention to the bespoke woodwork and tailored stone detailing throughout.

The main living room is generous and open, flowing into a formal dining area, private study, and a bespoke kitchen fitted with Gaggenau appliances, dual wine fridges, twin ovens and a dumbwaiter connecting to the working kitchen below. Hidden within the intricate panelling, the master suite includes a spacious dressing area and a bathroom finished in soft-toned marble and matt wood, pairing design elegance with functional clarity.

Two further bedroom suites complete the private wing, each offering garden access and thoughtful separation. The lower level is entirely devoted to lifestyle and wellbeing. There is also a fully equipped gym with adjoining spa area, including a massage room — a space built for tranquillity and private rejuvenation. A self-contained guest suite with English patio sits on this level too, executed with the same standard of finish found throughout the home. Staff quarters, laundry rooms, plant areas and generous storage have all been seamlessly integrated, reflecting the precision and planning that underpin this entire residence.

Outside, the orientation offers a flowing view of tree-lined streets and lush landscapes. But beyond the setting, it is the detailing — from the hand-laid brickwork to the invisible joinery — that reveals the true depth of this villa’s character.

More than just a home, this is a statement of quiet excellence. A modern classic, shaped by passion and perfected through craft.
