Animation Festival is the UK’s oldest and largest

performing arts event for children and young

people. From its beginnings in 1984 with 14 events Simon Hart Artistic Director

THE LONELY GIANT Babbling Vagabonds Storytelling Theatre

According to the Big Rulebook of Ogres, giants are supposed to stomp around the land terrorizing people and animals as they go. They’re not supposed to think, they’re not supposed to have feelings, and they are most definitely not supposed to be lonely!!! But that’s the trouble with Angus - he is the Lonely Giant! Be whisked away to a time gone by when giants still roamed the lands and dating agencies were a distant dream. A magical and true story, Call of the Loon Bird follows the life of Little Eagle. In his youth he rescues a Loon, a bird of great wisdom, who later helps Little Eagle on his journey through life. Through early adversity, illness and later success as a shaman - a storyteller and wise man - for his people, Little Eagle comes to rely on the Call of the Loon Bird to help him and his people. A story of wisdom over intolerance, this show vividly explores the rich oral traditions and culture of the Native Americans

THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF Garlic Theatre

Have you ever dreamed of having wings? Follow the wacky adventures of Prof. Bix Horn as he flies by the seat of his pants and tries to build a flying machine out of the most unlikely things. A vibrant use of technology and live storytelling, Beauty and the Beast mixes projection screens and animation with puppetry and live action. THE GIFT

The Puppet Lab

The Gift is something given, a present, a talent, an object, a transformation. The Gift breaks the rules of conventional theatre, it is an installation and a performance. Audiences enter a large box shaped like a giant present, sitting on multicoloured cushions and duvets.Action takes place on the walls and ceiling around them. Boxes open. Balls bounce out. Figures appear and disappear. Mirrors reflect and smiles connect. This delicate and beautiful touchy-feely experience is guided by a puppet angel who sings sweet melodies. Enjoy the magic of puppet making with the experts of Angus Arts. THE PUPPET BASKET Flotsam & Jetsam

Puppeteer and storyteller Ailie Finlay will bring along her big basket of puppets. Listen to her tell lively folktales, then dig into the basket, choose a puppet and act out the story yourself! The simple table-top puppets are hand-made and easy for children to use. Features (such as beards and hair) and clothes are added to the puppets by the children to create characters from the stories they have heard

THE WELL AT THE WORLD’S END Flotsam & Jetsam

Make a puppet and take it on a journey to the Well at the end of the world

Based on an old Scottish folktale the children will create an instant puppet show.The puppets they make will interact with the puppets and props the puppeteers bring along in a rambunctious adventure. Who will you meet on the way? A little white pony, a witch, a frog...and what will be waiting for you at the edge of the world?

Leaders Jan and Henry are experienced in leading animation workshops in both schools and the wider community

The themes for the workshops are easily adapted to suit different groups. Previous topics that have been explored include global warming, bullying, local history, alien invasions, monsters and mutants! Red Kite Animations and their pool of talented animators return with a flexible workshop structure able to suit any requirements.
