FOUR AMAZING PARTIES =

ONE SUPREME WEEKEND BY SAM CARPENTIERE

N

EW YORK CITY’S PRIDE IS EXPECTED TO DRAW TWO MILLION PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE GLOBE, MAKING IT THE NATION’S LARGEST GAY PRIDE CELEBRATION. SUPREME FESTIVAL, THE NEW PARTY BRAND LAUNCHING OVER THE WEEKEND, HOPES TO ATTRACT THE BOYS THAT LOVE THE HARD BEATS. HOWEVER, NEW YORKERS HAVE PROVEN TO BE A NOTORIOUSLY FICKLE AUDIENCE.

“So many international party brands have attempted to establish themselves in New York. Most have failed,” says Jake Resnicow, who is collaborating with Brandon Voss, one of NYC’s top event producers, on Supreme. Resnicow successfully brought the Matinée party from Barcelona to the U.S. His Matinée New York Pride event on Governors Island takes place earlier in the day on Saturday. “Guests of Supreme will witness the birth of the world’s next great international party here in New York,” he says. Supreme Festival’s main event will take place Saturday, June 28, at Capitale, with a celebrity performance by rapper Azealia Banks (who recently came out as bisexual) and music by internationally renowned Spanish duo Chus + Ceballos. The closing out party will take place Sunday, June 29, with a Red Light Districtthemed party at Liberty Theatre. Music will be by Italy’s Danny Verde and Madrid’s Steven Redant, two of Europe’s biggest DJ talents who go by the name Bent Collective. We spoke to the talent who will make the four amazing parties one Supreme Weekend. Azealia Banks is best known for “212,” her certified club pleaser that continues to play dance floors around the globe. She will take the stage at Supreme Festival’s main event on Saturday, June 28, at Capitale. What does Pride mean to you? Pride is an expression of love and equality, a celebration of diversity, an end to discrimination. My

relationship with NYC has given me a real sense of awareness. There are so many people and characters in NYC who are all exploding with ambition. There is a sense of pride in that, too. Why did you choose to perform at Supreme? I was amazed and honored to learn that I have such a big gay following. I am a bisexual, but I don’t want to be labeled as the “bisexual female rapper.” I don’t live on other people’s terms. Lots of things helped me to decide to go with Supreme: Chus + Ceballos, to name one. And I was given total creative freedom. Like I said, I don’t live on other people’s terms. How will you make this a Pride to remember for the boys? I have a lot of surprises in store for Supreme. I am so excited to share some of the treasures from my upcoming album, so I’ll be debuting a lot of new material and choreography. DJs Danny Verde and

Steven Redant make up The Bent Collective. The acclaimed producers have headlined some of the biggest parties of the planet including Miami’s White Party, Mexico’s Pink Party and Rio’s Carnival. They will close out pride weekend on Sunday, June 29, with a Red Light District-themed party at Liberty Theatre. How do NYC crowds compare to those in Europe? Danny Verde: The NYC crowd is so full of energy. It’s always a pleasure to get the chance to perform for such lovely guys. We don’t have the same community feeling in Europe. Getting to interact with the crowd and swapping emotions and feelings through the music is simply awesome. We feel so grateful for the opportunity. What is your hot track for Pride 2014? Steven Redant: It’s so hard to pick just one track. There are a bunch of hot tracks out now. I guess I have to say Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be,” Beyonce’s “Partition” and of

course, the Bent Collective remix of Avicii’s “Addicted to You.” How will you make this a supreme Pride to remember for the boys? Danny Verde: We’ve been creating something very different from all that there is already in the scene. The guys who were at White Party in Palm Springs can attest to it. That party worked it hard. We are ready to let the boys have it again in NYC.
