The President’s Message

Sydney, 18-22 Aug 2014 Have you seen the sights of Sydney? Sydney Harbour is magnificent, not only in the sunshine, but also in the twinkle of the city lights at night; a ‘Captain Cook’ dinner cruise will delight! The majesty of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge is world renowned. Who has made the bridge climb? Well for those that haven’t this will be an opportunity not to miss! The history of ‘The Rocks’ (the earliest part of the city), the beauty of the botanical gardens and many parks, Taronga Park Zoo, various museums, magnificent State Art Gallery, Bondi and other beaches (so close to the city), famous (and ‘naughty’) Kings Cross and many other wonderful sights and activities await your exploration and enjoyment. The Thanksgiving Service will be held in St. Mary’s Cathedral, a symbol of beauty and grace in the centre of Sydney. The Cathedral is one Page 4

of the most treasured historic buildings and one of the finest examples of English-style gothic churches in the world. Mark the dates in your diary now! For more info ph. 0800 477 617 Mary & Ron having their sticky date (pudding) at the Travel Club’s Xmas dinner.

On Anniversary Day, a good number of our members enjoyed picnicking and socialising together at our annual club gathering at Kulim Park. How quickly the first month of the year has passed by and we are now well and truly into 2014. May it be a happy and healthy one for all members! Our next meeting is the AGM in March. volved. However, she will still be organising those splendid birthday outings! Thank you Isobell for your enthusiasm and the way in which you have so ably and willingly contributed. Kathy Fathers has been nominated to fill this position. It is pleasing that Joan Hutson has been nominated to be our next VicePresident. Apart from those two changes, the 2014 committee will remain the same unless other nominations should be received. There are also many, not on the committee, who contribute greatly to the running of our club. Thank you one and all, your efforts are much appreciated! Phyllis has organized a 3-night trip to Napier in March with an excellent programme. It should be lots of fun.

Marita Phillips—President.

Editorial

Welcome to the first Newsletter of 2014. This column hopes that everyone is now refreshed and looking forward to the coming year. Most organisations have a newsletter to keep their members well informed. Tauranga RSA call theirs “The Hub”, The City Council call theirs “City News”, the Port of Tauranga call theirs “Portfolio” and we call ours “Newsletter”. How about giving it a name? It could be “Vision News”, “The Bulletin”, “The View”, “Update”, “Vision Post”, “Gazette”, “Post”, etc. Do you think we need a name for our Newsletter? If you do, what would be an appropriate title? Please let me know. Neil E. - Editor
