Volume 40 Number 2 MAY 2010
The President’s Message Thanks to all who attended the April General meeting. Senator Delores Kelley, Speaker Pro tem Adrienne Jones, and Councilman Sam Moxley were present. They each gave us a summary of the legislative wrap up and the accomplishments that specifically impacted our area of the county. Then it was time to say goodbye to Councilman Moxley who has served our community for over 14 years. He has been a true friend to Woodbridge Valley and me. He has helped us with many issues and has never told me “No” when I asked for his assistance. We wish him well in his future endeavors. Three of the candidates vying for Councilman Moxley’s seat attended the meeting so that we could meet them. They were Greg Morgan, Tom Quirk, and Steve Whisler. Get to know about all the candidates so that in November you can make a wise selection. See the ad in this issue about the pool. They have extended the $350 non-vested membership thru the summer. Thanks to your response the pool will open this year. The Membership Drive produced a new winner this year, Area 6. The Board thanks Area Representative Vernise Burs, and Block Captains, Deborah Parsons, Joan Bahler, Mariam Levy, Paula Roberts, Penelope Paul, Mary Huller, Manya Archie and Karen Smith. Please read about the activities for the youth and act accordingly. Are you interested in another Murder Mystery Dinner Night? We need to hear from you. Contact Vernise Burs @ 410-788-0662 or Nicole Smoot @ 410-747-5777 to let us know your pleasure. We hope you have an enjoyable spring and summer.

A COMMUNITY COMMUNICATIONS VENTURE A member of our community is setting a free listserve. This is an email list for people who live in Woodbridge Valley and vicinity. It's a way to meet your neighbors, exchange news & contacts, discuss topics, pass along referrals and find out what's happening in the neighborhood. It is intended to be a place where you can share anything that you might share with your neighbor over the back yard fence or maybe over a cup of coffee on the porch. It's a great place to post an upcoming yard sale or find out what's the best weekend to over seed your lawn. You might see something or someone that looks suspicious and post it here to alert others to be on the look out. To become a member, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/woodbridgevalley/ and click the button that says join this group. RECYCLING AWARENESS Have you been recycling? Recycling in Baltimore County is much easier since single stream recycling began in February. You can now place all your acceptable paper, bottles, & cans out for collection, mixed together, each week. For more information on recycling, reuse, and disposal, visit the Baltimore County website at: www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/publicworks/recycling/newsletter/index.html
SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS DECEMBER 2009 HOLIDAY PARTY Our Annual Holiday party was held on December 5, 2009, at the Old Country Buffet. While the snowflakes flew, Woodbridge Valley children enjoyed a delicious breakfast, arts/crafts, and a visit with Santa. Each child received a special gift complements of WVICA. We hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks to our volunteers, Lee, Vernise, and Devin Burs, Nicole Smoot, Manya Archie, Sharon Johnson, and especially to Santa for traveling to be with us.
THIS YEAR We are planning an exciting year of activities. Volunteers are desperately needed to help with planning and carrying out these activities. We are also seeking sponsors to help offset the cost of our programs. If you can volunteer an hour or two or would like to contribute toward our programs, please contact Sharon Johnson at 410-370-9731. YOUTH SPRING FLING As you may remember, our Spring Holiday party/Easter Egg Hunt was canceled for the first time in 20 years! This was due to several days of rain and our inability to secure indoor space. We have scheduled a replacement activity for June 4, 2010. Children and grandchildren of Woodbridge Valley residents aged 4-12 are invited to bounce, jump, and slide at Bounce R Us in Woodlawn. This activity is FREE for the first fifty children to sign-up. Please refer to the flyer and mail in your reservations, before the deadline. Get those reservation slips in asap! COMMUNITY YARD SALE Our annual Spring Community Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, June 5 th from 8:00 a.m. to noon (Rain Date is June 12th). Tables may be set up near the intersection of Crosby Road and King William Drive. There is no need to register for the yard sale and there is no charge to participate. Set up early to get a good spot! Sellers limited to Woodbridge Valley residents. Participants are responsible for supplying their own tables/set-ups and for removing all leftover items, trash, and residence signs after the sale. Also feel free to set up at your home. Let’s ramp up the sales at homes this year! Encourage your neighbors to set up tables in your block or cul-de-sac. The more the merrier! We will advertise the sale through a variety of means. For further information please contact: Ted King 410-788-3626 Please mark your calendars. Reminders and additional information will be sent out via our One Call Now messaging service. 5
TEEN TRIP TO HERSHEY PARK School’s almost out! For Woodbridge Valley high school students, we are planning an evening trip to Hershey Park to celebrate the ending of the school year. Mark your calendars now for a “Sunset Admission” on June 26th! Tickets are $25 for park admissions. WVICA is sponsoring the bus. Adult chaperones are needed. Please refer to the flyer and mail in your reservations, permission slips, and payments before the deadline.
OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT Let’s do it again! Plans are underway for another Family movie nights in our community in late August. The entire Woodbridge Valley community will be invited to enjoy an evening under the stars watching a feature movie on a huge outdoor movie screen. We are currently securing space and working out the details.
GOT STUFF?? Our annual Dumpster Day is being scheduled for September 2010. Watch for more information on this annual event. In the meantime, please, consider whether you have 2 hours to volunteer so that we can continue to offer these services. These hours only involve directing residents to the correct dumpsters for their stuff. Contact Vernise at 410-788-0662 if you can help. Consumer fraud and identity theft are becoming an epidemic. Shredding is the best way to protect your identity. We are looking into having a Community Shred Event in the Fall so that residents can bring their personal papers (i.e. cancelled checks, medical records, and any other type of sensitive document) to be shredded on-site. We will update you on dates as these events are firmed up.
GENERAL NOTICES ONE CALL NOW We have renewed our One Call Now messaging service and will continue to use it to alert residents of emergency situations and of WVICA-sponsored events. Don’t miss out! Please contact Sharon Johnson at 410-370-9731 to be added or to change your contact information.
