Addressing the effects of trauma, also recognized as Addressing of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), may be the most important ingredient to academic success that many in education may not be familiar with. Participants will learn how trauma affects students' physical, social, and emotional development, and what teachers and other charter school leaders can do to address it. Participants will also learn about promising practices occurring throughout the country through the creation of trauma-sensitive schools.

ROOM 101A
The role of a charter school board is simple: ensure successful implementation of vision and mission, support school leadership, and ensure fiduciary viability. Successful board members can clearly articulate how their roles appropriately align with every action they take and every relationship they develop. This session will explore how governance best practices build and protect the long-term sustainability of the institution. Jennifer Dauzvardis, Peak to Peak Charter School; Nora Flood, Colorado League of Charter Schools Connecting the Dots: Using Data to Tell Your Story Operations

ROOM 207B
It’s a data-driven world, but sometimes data falls flat when it comes to illustrating a meaningful and personal story about what really matters at your school. At the same time, data is a critical tool for tracking and sharing student progress. This session will cover how to use data to connect with your audience, employing storytelling techniques and compelling visualization tactics that you can try right away. Dakarai Aarons, Data Quality Campaign; Kelly Reeser, Peak to Peak Charter School; Kristina Saccone, GreatSchools Diverse Voices From the Field: Building an Inclusive Culture Governance

ROOM 102A
According to BoardSource, people of color remain underrepresented on non-profit boards: 90% of board chairs are White, along with 80% of board members. Diversity is critical, and some charter school boards have made real progress. We've asked successful Washington, DC charter school board members how they have created a genuinely inclusive culture on their boards and how it has been a game changer in their work. We'll share that learning with you as well as our strategies for recruiting a diverse board. Debbie Lister and Shereen Williams, Charter Board Partners
