POLAND’S BEAUTIFUL GEOGRAPHY The principal topographic regions are an undulating central lowland with a crystalline platform and warped bedrock; the Baltic highland in the north, a glaciated region with many lakes and sandy soils; and the coastland, a narrow lowland with promontories, bays, and lakes. The southern uplands are marked by rich loam and mineral deposits.

POLAND IS RECOGNISED AS A REGIONAL ECONOMIC LEADER WITHIN CENTRAL EUROPE

Poland’s economy is considered to be one of the more resilient of the post-Communist countries and is one of the fastest growing within the EU. Having a strong domestic market, low private debt, flexible currency, and not being dependent on a single export sector, Poland is the only European economy to have avoided the late-2000s recession. Since the fall of the communist government, Poland has pursued a policy of liberalising the economy, resulting in a primarily market-based economy.

POLAND - A GREAT PLACE FOR BUSINESS Poland is an OECD member belonging to the group of countries with very high human development according to HDI. Year by year, more and more innovative centres are coming into existence in the territory of Poland, along with their increasing specialisation. Expenditures for innovative activities in companies and the number of innovations made are also on the increase. Major regional differentiation has also been noticed. The Silesia areas have the dominant role in innovative activities. Polish entrepreneurs have also been found rather willing to undertake cooperation in the scope of innovative activities with other units.

COAL MINING IS ONE OF THE MAIN INDUSTRIES IN POLAND Poland’s mining and mineral-processing industry is extensive and appeared well positioned to respond to the country’s rising needs for all forms of raw materials, especially those consumed by the construction sector. Poland ranked third globally in mined zinc, sixth in silver, seventh in coal and sulfur (a major export commodity), among the top ten in mine copper (3% of world output, and second in Europe and Central Eurasia), and was a leading producer in Central Eurasia and Europe of lead, lime, nitrogen, and salt.

Coal is Poland’s most abundant energy source. Proven coal reserves at the beginning of 2003 amounted to 24.4 billion tons. Mining in Poland is and will be stable in the coming years. In recent times Polish government has allocated over 3 billion PLN (nearly 1 bilion $) for mines - three times as much as in 2015. This ensures a great business climate for investment and innovation, and encourages optimism and networking mutual contacts among companies around the Polish and foreign markets.

Coal mining output in Poland in 2017 reached approx. 135 million tonnes. Regarding the geopolitical and economical situation, Polish mines have the resources for investments and innovative solutions at the market of mining machinery and equipment. Domestic mines are determined to invest in the modernization of both mines and equipment.
