OPEN FOR BUSINESS! – All waterfront parks and picnic areas are now open. DOCK PUMPING STATION – The Meredith Town Docks septic pumping station is now open. Any member of the public may use the pumping station free of charge.
PARKS & RECREATION - The Meredith Parks & Recreation Summer Brochure is now available for pickup at the Meredith Community Center. The brochure lists all of the townsponsored recreation programs for the upcoming season such as the Summer Concert Series, Movies in the Park, swim lessons, tennis lessons, and Camp Can Do information. There is also information on the Meredith Swim Team, Theatre Camp in late August, and a trip to see the Boston Red Sox on August 12th. The summer brochure www.meredithnh.org.
Red Cross Babysitting Course – Will be offered by the Meredith Parks & Recreation Department on Saturday, July 11th from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Meredith Community Center. The course is open to students ages 11 and older. Participants will receive professional instruction on basic safety, CPR, first aid, children’s activities and games.
The registration fee is $40 for Meredith residents and $45 for non-residents. Registration deadline is Wednesday, July 8th. Pre-registration is required and the class is limited to 10 participants. Forms may be picked up at the Meredith Community Center or downloaded from the town website, www.meredithnh.org.
Tennis Lessons - The Meredith Parks & Recreation Department is offering tennis lessons this summer for participants ages 8 and older (including adults). Lessons will be taught by Kathy Peverly of Meredith and will be held at the Prescott Park tennis courts. Lessons will begin on Tuesday, July 7th and continue every Tuesday and Thursday through July 30th. The resident fee is $60 and the nonresident fee is $65. Registration deadline is Thursday, July 2nd. Registration forms may be picked up at the Meredith Community Center or downloaded from the town website, www.meredithnh.org. Meredith Swim Team - Registrations are now being accepted for the Meredith Swim Team. Swimmers age 8 to 16 who have the desire to improve their swimming skills and compete in swim meets are encouraged to join. Practices begin on July 1st and are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at Waukewan Beach from 9:00 -11:30. The resident fee for one child is $30 and for two children is $55. The non-resident fee is $40 per child. Registrations may be dropped off or mailed to the Meredith Community Center, One Circle Drive, Meredith. Red Sox Game - The Meredith Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to Fenway Park to see the Boston Red Sox play the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, August 12th. A coach bus will provide transportation from the Meredith Community Center to Boston for the 7:05 p.m. game. Tickets are $120 per ticket. Registrations are now being at the Meredith Community Center. This trip is open to Meredith residents and taxpayers only.
PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT UPDATES – Batchelder Hill Road Project: Phase I is complete and Phase II is now under way.
SOLID WASTE – The old Solid Waste Decals have now expired and are no longer being accepted. The new two year Solid Waste Decals are now on sale for all Meredith residents and are available at the Solid Waste Facility and at Town Hall. The cost is $20.00, which entitles a resident to two decals for two different vehicles. You must be a property or business owner in Meredith, or be able to prove residency. All rules and regulations for the Solid Waste Facility are on the town web site at meredithnh.org. Please contact the Solid Waste Facility at 279-8480 (8 AM to 3 PM daily, closed on Wednesday) or the Public Works Office at 279-6352 (Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM), for further information.
HAZARDOUS HOUSEHOLD WASTE COLLECTIONS DAY – On Saturday, July 25 you can dispose of household hazardous waste items which require proper, safe disposal.
Any Meredith resident with a Solid Waste Decal may drop off items at the Meredith Public Works Garage located at 11 Jenness Hill Rd. For specifics on what items will be accepted and for general information, please contact the Meredith Public Works office at 279-6352 or visit the LRPC website.
MEREDITH PUBLIC LIBRARY – The following additional events will take place in the coming week at the Meredith Public Library:
Tuesday June 23, 2009 All week-Sign up for children's Summer Reading-During this week or throughout the summer, stop by the library to pick up your reading logs. If kids keep track of the number of minutes read or read to then they can be rewarded at one or both of our summer prize weeks! 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Getting Started with Genealogy-Unlock the mysteries of your family’s past! Whether you’re a Mayflower Descendent or Potato Famine Descendent, finding your family roots is fun and addicting. This workshop is for those who may be interested in trying genealogy or just starting out. Learn how to use the library's genealogy databases Ancestry.com, Heritage Quest and resources from the New England Historic Genealogical Society. Get some tips for best practices for beginners. Forms and hand-outs will be given to help record your research and build your family tree. If you have a laptop with wireless access feel free to bring it but it is not required. Refreshments will be served. Please register for this event.

Please sign up in advance, especially for snack help. 10:30 AM -12:30PM Knotty Knitters Finish up your projects, swap ideas and get some advice at this relaxed knitting group. All levels of experience are welcome. Thursday June 25, 2009 1:00 - 2:00 PM Preschool Story Time Read stories, sing songs and do zany projects. For children ages: 3-5. 6:30 - 8:30 PM Thursday Evening Book Group Read the book The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir and then join the group as we watch Elizabeth starring Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush. The book and the movie show the rise and early reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Rated R. Brief discussion of book and movie will follow. Popcorn and soda will be served.
