LIBRARY The Meredith Public Library is now offering the award-winning Mango Languages online language learning system free to its patrons. The system focuses on teaching actual conversation skills for six languages through interactive audio and video including Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.

Each lesson combines real-life situations and audio from native speakers with an easy-to-follow interface and simple, clear instructions. Because it's completely Web-based, library patrons can learn anywhere they have an Internet connection -- at the library, a coffee shop, or even at home in bed. By listening to, and repeating after, native speakers' voices, a user will not only learn individual words and phrases, but also know how they're used in practical situations and conversations. A Virtual Tutor guides the user through each lesson. Hovering the mouse over a foreign word reveals a convenient phonetic spelling and pronunciation is enhanced by audio recordings of native speakers. Quizzes are strategically placed throughout each lesson to ensure maximum retention and recall of the material. So what are you waiting for? Visit us at Meredith Public Library, Meredith, NH and use your library card to start learning a new language today!

The Meredith Public Library is proud to offer the Books for Babies program sponsored by the Friends of the Meredith Library. Do you have a newborn less than a year old? Please stop by the children's room for your free child-size canvas book tote designed by our young adult librarian Karen Henchey. The tote is filled with a new board book, pamphlets on reading to your newborn, reading lists and library pamphlets! Reading to baby is highly beneficial for both parent and child. It teaches a baby about communication, introduces concepts such as numbers, letters, colors, and shapes in a fun way, builds listening, memory, and vocabulary skills and gives babies information about the world around them. For parents, it develops a ritual of reading to your child which will last for years. Please pick up your free kit and start your ritual today!
