Welcome to the latest edition of our property newspaper

pring is well and truly in the air and it is incredible to see what a difference some fine weather makes to the property market. It is of course traditionally one of the times of year when people think about buying and selling and that certainly seems to be ringing true again this g year despite the uncertainty being created by our current political tical position. So, the most important B WORD affecting the property market at the moment? BUYERS of course! The trend that we experienced last year appears to be continuing thus far in 2019, with an abundance of buyers looking to purchase property within Shropshire, The Marches and Mid Wales but with seemingly little stock on offer for them to buy. This is in some cases of course putting upward pressure on prices. We are increasingly seeing multiple offers coming in on individual properties from multiple potential buyers and this can result in sales being agreed over asking prices. What more could you want as a seller? It is also worth noting that our viewing to sales ratio has reduced in the first quarter of 2019, meaning that it is taking fewer viewings to agree a sale on your home than it might have done this time last year. So, with the level of property available for sale across the country at an historic low, yet with extremely healthy levels of buyers actively searching for property and homes selling that little bit quicker than they were 12 months ago, what better time to make arrangements to sell? cCartneys are delighted to announce that Alzheimer’s Society is our Charity of the Year for 2019. Working with our local community fundraisers Lisa and Helen we will be raising money and awareness throughout the year to support people living with dementia across the UK. Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and there’s currently no cure. This is the biggest health and social care challenge of our time and we are determined to make a difference by raising money and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society. Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia today. They call for everyone to unite against dementia. Local community fundraisers Lisa and Helen joined McCartney’s staff this week to film our official launch. Debbie Anderson, Partner, from Ludlow Office said: “We hear about dementia but like me many people don’t really understand what it means to those living with it and those caring for people with dementia. I was delighted to hear about amazing levels of support Alzheimer’s Society gives to people.

Dementia doesn’t care how old you are. It’s caused by diseases of the brain so it’s not an inevitable part of ageing. Too many people are facing dementia alone and I hope McCartneys can help Alzheimer’s Society reach everyone with a diagnosis.” Alzheimer’s Society aims to raise £1 billion over the next decade to support everyone who has been diagnosed with dementia. McCartneys will be involved in fund raising activities throughout the year and we will keep you posted on exciting events in your area. By working closely with Alzheimer’s Society we hope to spread awareness of dementia and the fantastic support and guidance available to anyone who needs it. Dementia Action Week will take place on Monday 20th to Sunday 26th May, Dementia Action Week brings local communities together to take action and help support people with dementia to live well and stop them feeling so isolated.

I can’t take any credit for the quotation, but it sums things up beautifully. When anyone is buying or selling a house, it isn’t something usually done by numbers. Even investors follow their gut instinct, and every situation is totally different. We encounter all sorts of situations, and it’s for that reason that we work hard to understand the client’s needs, and endeavour to make the difference. At a recent training seminar it wasn’t unusual to hear how one of our branches had gone above and beyond expectations. A family, with children, were relocating from another part of the Country, for a lifestyle change, and knew little of the area they’d fallen in love with. Buying through McCartneys they were helped every step of the way. Given local information and contacts, but also introducing and arranging a meeting with the Headteacher of the local school, that the children went on to attend. Perhaps not the usual tale of Estate Agents normally heard. Recently, a wonderful, elderly lady from the borders, was at the stage of life where her family, who lived a considerable distance away, wished her to be close by. Selling a house with a good agent means they’ll take care of as much of the transitional stress as possible. But there are always unexpected situations that crop up. This particular home required a range of professional people to carry out assessments, at the buyer’s request. The local office ensured that someone attended each time, to explain everything to our client and support when needed. It was a pleasure to receive an e mail of thanks, saying that the team had provided a real comfort. These aren’t isolated events, it happens at McCartneys all the time. We care about what we do and understand that every situation, every person, every home, is different, and so we must be too. In fact I can’t even take credit for the title of this article. It was shouted at me late one evening, from the neighbour of a property I’d just called to. Our clients had requested a very quick turn around with sales particulars and we’d stayed behind to get them finished. Delivery to them was a few miles from our office, so I popped them in my bike basket and cycled over. Much to the amusement of the gentleman next door, spotting my McCartneys badge and my resemblance of a scene from Miss Marple with my wicker basket creaking and my skirt flapping, he leaned on his spade and grinned. “Well, you McCartneys lot certainly go the extra mile”, and actually, I’m very proud that we do.
