M a r k M o l o n e y, M a n a g i n g D i r e c t o r, Professional Beauty : Salon International : HJi, is a master of trade shows on a global scale. In an exclusive interaction, we get him to share his opinions about the beauty industry and spill the secret behind his success story.
What are your views on how Professional Beauty India has grown over the years? As an international brand, we rst had to establish trust among salon owners and manufacturers in India. I think people now understand that Professional Beauty stands for expanding the marketing for professional treatments, that we care about the industry and want it to thrive. This makes us the natural home for professionals to visit our exhibitions across India. This week's show in Delhi will be our biggest yet; Mumbai is now a truly international show. We will expand as the professional industry in India expands.
What are your expansion plans? Weh have just held our rst convention in ASEAN, World Spa & Wellness Asia. This was so successful that we will see the convention as being THE meeting place for spa in the ASEAN region in 2019. Our expansion plans are driven by need. Some countries are already well serviced, but there are many, including developed countries, where existing providers are not aligned with the industry's values and we are looking at these. Our main focus however is to always do better in the countries we already serve.s stage programmes to help.
What do you think of the Indian beauty industry? The differences between India, the UK and all the other countries we operate are not as large as the similarities. This is a business where the individual relationship between the client and his / her salon and the salon and her supplier matter most. Customers the world over demand excellent service and if you provide this consistently you will thrive. The West has much to learn from India, particularly in how dynamic Indian people can be.
Which countries are experiencing a boom in the beauty sector? India is probably our biggest growth market but there is a world wide demand for beauty, spa, wellness and hair services. As people get richer they want experiences, rather than products and what better experience than a rst class beauty treatment. So, although the UK is growing much slower than say India, professional treatments are still rising strongly year on year.

What kind of innovations in marketing / experiential activities are you introducing this year? Content is King. Our visitors need help in running their business and we are giving them rst class speakers on variou Where do you see Professional Beauty ve years down the line? We see ourselves as the central hub where professionals working in beauty and hair can come to; be that in person at one of our expos or conferences, on their phone through our websites or apps, or in print. We also see ourselves setting the standards in the industry via our awards. As long as we are helping the industry grow, we will also grow. Which modus operandi works best in engaging audiences at the shows? Why? Different countries will absorb different marketing techniques but we need to provide genuinely good and original content. Our exhibitions are excellent places where professionals can meet, compare the market, source products and treatments and increasingly learn about advanced treatments and the skills to grow their businesses. Which features of your global shows would you like to see replicated in India? We can have stronger content on our stages, introduce more aesthetic medical content, more business content and engage better with the spa & wellness community. In the UK we are also increasingly engaging the tness and wellness industry a trend which will be hitting India soon as well.
How are you gearing up for the World Spa and Wellness Awards 2019? These awards are the only credible awards for spa in the World. They are genuinely international and our judging process is both incorruptible and also provides excellent feedback for those who enter. Our job for 2019 will be to make more people aware of these things. What were the key ndings from this years WSW Convention? Where is the spa business worldwide headed? What are the key trends? It's surprising how the same issues effect spas across the globe. Attracting and retaining staff, consistent customer satisfaction, poor product retailing. For hotels, simply having a spa is not enough, those who don't understand their market and position their spa offering accordingly will close. We have launched Active Wellness in 2019 to reect consumers' demand for tness, nutrition, mindfulness and touch. Having said this, Wellness is an over-used word and spas must be realistic in what wellness treatments they can provide. Customers demand authenticity. What are your expectations from Salon International 2018? Salon International attracts 40,000 visitors and is a truly international showcase of product, trends and talent. Many brands, such as Toni & Guy and Vidal Sassoon, use the event to launch their international collections. If I were going to one event, anywhere in the world, to see the latest hair trends it would be Salon International.

Congress 2018 Analysing the industry growth and outreach, Professional Beauty India is back with the second edition of the Salon Management Congress (SMC) in association with Beauté Espace Media. Here's an exclusive report of the Delhi chapter being held on June 4 and 5 at Hall No. 12 Pragati Maidan. Industry analysts have pegged the growth of the Professional Salon Care market in India at a CAGR of 27.07 per cent over the previous ve year period. According to a KPMG report, the size of India's beauty and wellness market is expected to touch INR 80,370 crores by 20172018. This includes the beauty products and salon and spa businesses. At Beauté Espace, we predict that the same salon chain growth will be at a faster pace than the adding up of new salons.
The wellness and spa outlets will be seen growing at a phenomenal rate as existing salons innovate to add the wellness quotient. Not to be overlooked are the new players in home services!
