Oriel Systems AWAX is a PC-Based Control and Monitoring System, designed for the Printing, Oil and Chemical Industries where ease of use, low start up and maintenance costs are paramount. AWAX is designed to provide remote data collection, monitoring and control in an industrial environment and is an open, flexible and expandable solution to the efficient monitoring of critical stocking levels at your customer sites throughout all their locations worldwide.

Open Architecture AWAX is designed by a software house, so we don’t favour one type of PLC I/O device over another, it is therefore possible to link AWAX to virtually any PLC, outstation, local device or data logger.

Graphical User Interface The fully dynamic schematics package provides all the necessary drawing tools incorporated into a floating toolbox to provide simple on screen presentation of live data with multi-level zooming capabilities and on screen push buttons. The package is also compatible with other image files so that background images can be brought in and dynamic representations can be overlaid to allow professional looking mimic pages to be developed in a matter of minutes

Security Features AWAX has multi-level password protection restricting operator access to the necessary facilities only, securing database integrity and guarding against accidental loss of data. Different levels of users can have different levels of access into the system. An operator can have the ability to view screens and information only; an engineer can have full access into the system and can set the level of access for other users or re-configure the entire menu altogether.

Data Accessibility Although excellent facilities exist for the display of data within AWAX, some engineers like the ability to export data to a spreadsheet or comma separated text file. AWAX can transfer live data to a Windows standard spreadsheet, giving on-line access to either the current values or a trend history of multiple inputs. CSV files can be created either automatically or as directed by the user. For example the user can “spool off� data to a floppy disk or CD on a week by week basis, this data can then be re-imported into AWAX at a later date and then re-displayed by AWAX graphics without affecting current monitoring and data collection.

Archiving/Trending Although current values of system inputs are very important, historical values are also important. AWAX keeps a running history of system inputs and these historical values can be graphed using our powerful graphics / trending package which includes multi-level zooming, scrolling and fast forward / reverse. 24 graphs can be viewed on one screen. Graph formats can be stored and accessed by pressing a single button.

Supervisory Control AWAX has very powerful facilities for the control of plant / equipment in the form of ‘sequences’. These are on-line user definable mini-programs that provide a wealth of control possibilities. Sequences are initiated from on screen buttons, the system menu or as a result of changing system inputs. A sequence can perform a complex plant shut down from one press of a button, can be modified on-line and are simple to create by the user. Configuration AWAX uses standard Windows menu and file structures so navigation around the system is as easy as using Windows itself. Data points can be added or removed just by double clicking. Configuration changes can also be made on-line so there is no loss of critical information from around the plant. Context sensitive help is available throughout, along with some of the more common examples provided, these can be pasted into your application, again to minimise downtime.

Alarms Handling AWAX has multiple alarm limits per system input and hysteresis capabilities reducing the risk of ‘ghost alarms’. Limit messages and digital state changes can be routed to alarm and event lists as well as to printers, hard disk files, communication ports and/or pop up message boxes. The system is capable of multiple alarm and/or event lists and list entries can be accepted and/or deleted by the operator. Alarms can also be used to generate pre-recorded audio messages via burst mode. Other Expansion Possibilities include intelligent I/O Devices, PLC’s, networks, PC bus cards, serial linked data loggers, outstation, PSTN, Radio, Cellular. Alarms can be to Pagers, Mobile phones as voice messages, office network, www or shared across multiple users over a corporate Intranet site. Oriel can provide a Web Hosting service, which allows current values to be viewed graphically on your smartphone to provide an open, flexible and expandable solution to the efficient monitoring of stocking levels on your customer sites throughout all their locations world-wide.

Telemetry Outstations Outstations are simple and flexible in operation yet offer all the expansion capabilities that may be needed both currently and for any future requirements. Standard ‘off the shelf’ components are used throughout to reduce spares stockholding, maintenance charges and therefore total ownership costs. Overall the AWAX outstations are a complete and future-proof solution to the remote gathering of important operating information and critical on-site conditions

Sensors Whether to use radar, ultrasonic level sensors, hydrostatic pressure, capacitance, load cells or simple float switches, reliability and repeatability are key to choosing the correct sensor for your needs. The application and the accuracy required must also be suitable for your needs and budget. Oriel Systems engineers will discuss your requirements with you to recommend the most suitable sensor for your particular application. Each system undergoes a full and thorough system and operating test before it is delivered.
