Dear Members, I am looking forward to the annual membership meeting on November 13 at 6pm. This is a great time to come together to confirm the new board members, review the accomplishments of the club over the past year and to set the agenda for the club in 2014. It is also a great time to recognize our professional staff and the great work they did on behalf of our membership in 2013.
Personally, it doesn’t seem like 3 years since Haydon Hapak, Ken Stella and myself joined the board of directors with the goal of serving and improving Meridian Hills. We have made many decisions over the years that have brought changes to the club. Whether these decisions were positive or not depends on your perspective, but what is absolutely clear is that our long term club success depends heavily on the service of members.
Thankfully, we have over 30 member volunteers that serve on one of our committees that tackle issues around membership, finance, house, greens and all member service. It is a result of the countless hours of time that these individuals put in on behalf of the club that makes Meridian Hills the pre-eminent club in Indiana. Thank you all very much for your help and support in 2013. I want to also thank the membership for their help and support of the board during this time. Haydon, Ken and myself have enjoyed serving the club and look forward to its continued improvement in 2014 and beyond! Look forward to seeing you at the club, Sincerely, Jeff Cristee

Message from theGeneral Manager
As announced in an earlier letter to the members from President Jeff Cristee, Michael Bembenick will be our new Head Golf Professional. The process was comprehensive covering “Jacks’ family tree” and a nationwide search assisted by the PGA of America to conclude the committees recommendation to the board that the best candidate is Michael. His preparation included a STRATEGIC PLAN and encompassed his thoughts and ideas of how to best serve the members by usage of up to date technology, improved communications, enhanced ladies and junior programs, getting families involved with the game of golf and moving the golf operation into the next generation. Interviewing some of the best professionals in the Steve Roper, CCM, CCE industry and hearing of their successful programs and styles was General Manager impressive, particularly coming from some of the most reputable clubs in the country. And yet, when analyzing each ones strengths it came down to who was the best fit. Work ethic, knowledge of the membership, and the compassion to succeed in serving the members was loud and clear. Michael will be given all the tools to be successful, along with his burning desire to do so, he will. Join me in supporting Michael in his new role.

The 9 hole ladies celebrated closing day on September 26 with a lovely luncheon put on by Cindy Curnow, Caryl Wilhoite, and LuAnn Powers. We were able to thank Jack Barber for his 28 wonderful years with us. We were very thankful also for another great year with Michael Bembenick, Jim Hess, Wes Reuille, and Debra Clark. We had a fun day of golf, playing bingo golf. Penny Stone, Verletta King, and Cindy Stella won first place with two bingos. Second place was Cindy Curnow, Ann Dugan, and Kathy Perry. Third place was determined by the flip of a coin. Laura Touchton, LuAnn Powers, and Robyn Caponi won third. Throughout the season we have had about 15 to 20 golfers. Ann Dugan was chairlady of the ringer board. Olive Myers took top honors with a 22. After Olive, here is how the rest of the group finished: 1. Olive Myers 7. Cheryl Pletcher and Penny Stone
On Friday, September 27th, Michael Bembenick and 6 of our lady golfers took a road trip to West Baden Springs to watch the Legends Tournament at the highly acclaimed Pete Dye Course. The group enjoyed watching legendary LPGA players including Nancy Lopez, Jan Stephenson, Pat Bradley, Beth Daniel, Betsy King, Joann Carner, Rosie Jones, and Lorie Kane. It was a great trip had by all as the group even ran into longtime friend, Alice Dye.
