A Lot Can Happen in a year...but will it? Most readers will be getting this catalog at the end of 2014. As we close out a year, it is typical to reflect on the past 12 months. Surely, you and your children have a lot to reflect on and remember. While each year brings challenges for our families, hopefully your year has been filled with an abundance of joy. This time of reflection may also bring a feeling of regret. “Maybe we could have done more!” “Maybe I could have given my child more opportunities.” If you feel that way, seize the opportunity! Envision 2015 for yourself and your family, and start preparing to provide your children with the experiences you want them to remember at this time next year. We know you all see bright futures ahead for your children, help make this year the foundation for the great things to come. We hope Community Education will help provide opportunities and moments of joy, and that you will look forward to our programs. Spend the whole year reflecting fondly on those experiences! Happy Planning! Carrie Dobie Youth Programs Coordinator

Twinderella with Child’s Play Theatre (1st-8th Grade) Theatre is a great opportunity for kids to develop many life skills. You’ve heard the story of Cinderella a thousand times, but you’ve never heard about Bob, her long lost twin brother! Living in the same kingdom with different wicked stepfamilies, Cinderella’s cruel stepmother and evil stepsisters make her rotate tires and polish bowling trophies while Bob’s evil stepfather and cruel stepbrothers force him to make dried herb wreaths and organize their sock drawers. When Lou the UPS Guy arrives with invitations from the Kingdom of Wychwood-underOoze, Cinderella and Bob are both thrilled but forbidden to attend the festivities. With the help of the Fairy Godmother, the Godfather (he ain’t no fairy!), two enchanted gerbils and a lot of luck, they find a way! This program features speaking parts for up to 31 students with additional non-speaking roles if you prefer. During the production process, you will develop communication, public speaking, organization, teamwork and reading skills. Additionally, you will learn about theatre etiquette for actors and audience members. It is Child’s Play Theatre’s mission to develop well rounded theatre participants through a respectful, fun learning environment. Be a part of bringing this production, written by Charlie Lovett, to life. The instructor will assign roles based on observations of your participation in acting games on the first day of class. What makes the PLHS Fab Lab unique is that it integrates skills from a variety of other curricular areas too including: science, math, art and design, reading and writing, and social sciences. Fab Lab students also work with the PLHS Business Education Department to learn the business side of product development by discovering marketing strategies to make merchandise available to consumers. By learning these 21st Century skills students gain a better understanding of career and job opportunities.

Students demonstrated Fab Lab equipment at the Grand Opening this fall.

In the spirit of learning, our goal in future years will be to open up the Fab Lab after school to Community Education and groups such as scouts, robotics teams, local artists, and more, to encourage entrepreneurs to create products. We can’t wait to see what our students and community will create!
