Anzac Day

Proud moments were felt outside the IGA Pottsville as hundreds of people gathered to march for Anzac Day. Sprigs of Rosemary were worn by the staff of the IGA as a mark of respect. Representatives from local primary schools and high schools, business and organisations joined to march to the memorial for the morning service.

Greenback Fishing Competition Hundreds of keen Anglers took part in this years Greenback Fishing competition, in spite of the wet and windy weather conditions. Pottsville Fishing Club assisted with many aspects of the running of the competition.

May Morning Teas Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea was held by the North Star Social Club. $5.00 admission was requested at the door and Raffle tickets were also on sale. Lucky door prize tickets were put under everyone’s tea cups. The event held up to eighty people. Residents from the North Star Caravan Park, workers and their friends made and donated craft goods, and many of the prizes. Local businesses donated prizes to be raffled on the day. Cakes, sandwiches, scones pies and many other delicacies kept the morning alive. Cathy Wilson from the Duranbah Ladies and Friends Association held an outdoor morning tea at her home, All the ladies brought cakes scones and biscuits. Donations from local businesses were all raffled. Pottsville IGA donated a fruit hamper and flowers to assist in the fund raising event. Cathy and the ladies raised $600 that will be divided between the Tweed Heads Hospital Cancer Care unit and Palliative Care Unit and the Murwillumbah Hospital Cancer Care Units.
