The Christmas Story

pl e

Many years ago in the town of Nazareth lived a woman called Mary. One day while she was walking in her garden, an angel appeared in front of her. Mary was very surprised to see this special messenger sent from God.

Sa m

'God is pleased with you Mary,' said the angel Gabriel. 'He has chosen you to be the mother of His Son. You shall call his name Jesus.' Mary listened to the angel very carefully. She was pleased that she had been chosen to be the mother of God's Son.

ew

in

g

Soon Mary found she was going to have a baby and she married Joseph. Joseph was a carpenter who also lived in Nazareth. Around that time a special census was called by the rulers. Everyone had to travel back to the town in which they were born. Mary and Joseph were born in the town of Bethlehem and so they began the long dusty trip back.

Vi

It was almost time for Mary's baby to be born and they were glad to reach the town safely. They stopped at the inn to ask for a room but the inn was full. The innkeeper saw that Mary was soon going to have her baby and let them take shelter in the stable. That night the baby was born. They wrapped him in swaddling clothes and put him in a manger for a crib. They named the baby Jesus.

The Shepherds' Visit

pl e

Far away on a hill some shepherds were minding their sheep. Suddenly a bright light shone in the sky. An angel appeared before the shepherds and they were very frightened. 'Don't be afraid,' said the angel, 'I bring you good news. Tonight a baby has been born. He is a special baby because He is God's Son'. Then the angel left them to return to heaven.

Sa m

The shepherds quickly decided to visit Bethlehem to see the baby. They went to the stable and saw Jesus lying in a manger. They bowed down and worshipped Him for they knew He was the Son of God.

g

The Wise Men

ew

in

On the night that Jesus was born some wise men saw the star in the East. They travelled for many days to find this special baby. They knew that He was the Son of God and that He would be a king. They followed the star to the stable in Bethlehem. The wise men bowed to the baby and gave Him special gifts. They gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Vi

Jesus is the Son of God. He wants us to love God and to follow His ways.
